**Summary:**
The incumbent supports the Operating Room schedule by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizingsurgical instrumentation. The incumbent is a vital member of the PeriOperatvie Services Team and must adhere to all Perioperative standards of practice. He/she must ensure the finished surgical instrument set is assembled appropriately for thescheduled procedure and that all instruments and supplies are dispatched to the correct location. The incumbent isaccountable for the facilitation of common goals within the department, independent daily assignment duties, and for projectduties as assigned within the department. He/She will also serve as a resource to the team and will be responsible for personalprofessional development as it relates to the department.
**Responsibilities:**
Operations Cleans, decontaminates, inspects ,assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrumentation Follows established priority list, edited O.R. schedule, and telephone requests for required instruments. Navigates automated instrument tracking system software. Produces a minimum of 15 instrumentation sets per day Demonstrates basic knowledge of the T-doc system Clearly documents as applicable, all processed material not track via electronic system Knowledgeable about all disinfectants and chemical germicides Able to reference MSDS Demonstrates knowledge of procedures of emergencies for steam sterilization machines Ability to assist clinicians in one or more surgical specialties Demonstrates knowledge of biological logins with no assistance Makes professional use of downtime Technical Skills: Knowledgeable about all disinfectants and chemical germicides Able to reference MSDS Demonstrates knowledge of procedures of emergencies for steam sterilization machines. Position Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers.

Required Qualifications:
Central Service/Sterile Processing/or Surgical Technology program certification with hands-on clinical experience
or
1 year of central service/sterile processing/surgical technology experience.
Word Processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills - verbal and written.
The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or must attain one of these certifications within 18 months of hire.
The 18 month deadline will be the set on the same numbered day of the month as the hire date. For hire dates falling on the 31st, the deadline defaults to the last day of the 18th month.
This certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Works under indirect supervision of the Resource Technician performing daily activities of the Sterile Processing Department, which include all aspects of the decontamination, assembly of sets, sterilization processes, and specialty cart restocking (CPR carts, Disaster Carts, Case Carts and Specialty carts). Ensures functions are performed with conscious regard to the procedures while interacting professionally with other departments within the system. The CSPDT must have knowledge of: surgical instrumentation in regards to identification, cleaning, inspecting, testing, packaging and sterilization, operation of mechanical equipment for instrument cleaning and sterilization, infection control practices and preventative measures and regulatory agencies the govern sterile processing practices.
High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of previous work-related experience are required. Provisional certification is accepted, valid for up to 30 days or once 400 hours of hands-on experience are fulfilled. Certification from a NJDOH-recognized body such as CSPDT/HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) is required. Completion and passing grade in an SPD training course or school are acceptable in lieu of one to two years of job experience. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication, are necessary for the role.

Certified registered central service technician credential (CRCST) or certified sterile processing and distribution technician credential (CSPDT), preferred. All hires will have 12 months to obtain full certification.

Sterile Processing- Full Time-Evening shift
+ The incumbent supports the Operating Room schedule by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation. The incumbent is a vital member of the Perioperative Services Team and must adhere to all Perioperative standards of practice. He/she must ensure the finished surgical instrument set is assembled appropriately for the scheduled procedure and that all instruments and supplies are dispatched to the correct location. The incumbent is accountable for the facilitation of common goals within the department, independent daily assignment duties, and for project duties as assigned within the department. He/She will also serve as a resource to the team and will be responsible for personal professional development as it relates to the department.
**Responsibilities:**
+ **Operations:** Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrumentation, linens and identifies those in need of repairs. Follows established priority list, edited O.R. schedule, and telephone requests for required instruments. Navigates automated instrument tracking system software. Produces a minimum of 15 instrumentation sets per day Demonstrates basic knowledge of the T-doc system Clearly documents as applicable, all processed material not track via electronic system.
