Position Summary The internship program is intended to provide training, experience, and a transitional path for prospective firefighters. Success of the program will require a commitment from the intern and their supervisor. Following a successful period of mentorship from both the assigned crew and supervisor, the intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in the firefighter role and be an important participant of the fire department service model. Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age at time of employment offer High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent Valid driver's license with insurable driving record throughout employment Actively enrolled in a fire service certification program with the ability to obtain all Firefighter certifications within 1 year. Hiring Process The application and resume must be submitted by December 31, 2025 at 5:00 PM CST . Application screening and resume review will identify viable candidates for a structured interviews. Structured in-person panel interviews will be scheduled from January 12-January 14, 2026. Consideration will be given for candidates who live more than 2 hours away. Candidates selected to move forward to the next step in the process will be contacted and scheduled for a Fire Chief interview to take place on January 20-21. Offers of employment are conditioned upon successful completion of a pre-employment psychological evaluation, physical, drug screen and background check. Tentative first day of employment will be March 9, 2026. Compensation Compensation for a Firefighter Intern is $17 per hour, working 24-40 hours weekly. Project assignments may include activities and tasks associated with assigned geological projects, studies, interpretations and other responsibilities within assigned area. In conjunction with project assignments, Geology Intern makes recommendations to Asset Team and Management for expenditures and activities associated with project activities. Time permitting, Geology Intern observes and provides assistance for the execution of recommended expenditures and activities and reports results of same. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Competencies Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication Strong leadership skills and a team player Proficient with Microsoft Office Effective time management Required Qualifications Current enrollment in an accredited four (4) year College or University Working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or related Earth Sciences major from an accredited College or University Eligible to work permanently in the United States upon graduation. An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.
