ABOUT THE ROLE
The Quality Technician plays a key role in ensuring compliance with customer, industry, and internal quality standards in printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) manufacturing. This position has a strong focus on process audits, ESD compliance auditing, and initial investigation of material and process issues. The Quality Technician documents findings and reports directly to the Quality Engineer, supporting corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts.
Major responsibilities:
Perform process audits across PCBA manufacturing operations to verify compliance with work instructions, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Conduct ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) audits to ensure personnel, workstations, and equipment meet established ESD controls.
Perform initial investigations of material issues or process issues identified during production, including defect containment, data collection, and communication of findings.
Document and communicate inspection, audit, and investigation results, and report findings to the Quality Engineer for review and action.
Carry out in-process, first article, and final inspections of PCBs to verify compliance with IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, and customer requirements.
Issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) and assist with root cause and corrective action activities under guidance of the Quality Engineer.
Monitor adherence to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and customer-specific quality requirements.
Support calibration and maintenance of inspection/test equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements.
Collaborate with production staff and supervisors to provide feedback on quality issues, recommend corrective actions, and reinforce best practices.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen process controls, reduce defects, and improve yields.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical training in electronics, quality, or manufacturing preferred.
Experience in PCBA manufacturing or electronics assembly environment strongly preferred.
Familiarity with IPC-A-600 and IPC-A-610 acceptance standards.
Prior experience in process auditing, ESD auditing, or material/process investigations is highly desirable.
Understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality management systems.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for reporting and cross-functional collaboration.

The Quality Technician (QT) at CPI is responsible for the auditing, inspection and testing functions through-out the value stream. In addition, the QT is charged with following up on any process and/or product non-conformances to assure they are brought to an effective solution while assisting with troubleshooting and supporting operations as required.

Complete Quality Release testing process including physical testing and visual inspection. Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials or product to measure performance, life or material characteristics.
Observe, report, and document quality data information on checklists and/or electronically, as required.
Conducts inspections and recommends final disposition based on those results. Initiates product hold procedures as necessary.
Verifies setups and completes in-process audits in Pressroom, Finishing and EMV.
Coordinates with production supervision regarding completion of testing and in-process audits.
Participate in continuous improvement teams and projects, if assigned.
Complete incoming inspection process on received raw materials, if assigned.
Identify, document, and communicate, as appropriate, quality information on the Shop Floor documents and other applicable quality forms.
Assist with problem solving and trouble-shooting activities, as assigned.
Assure proper rerun/rework paperwork is printed and required inspections are completed.

Operate standard equipment in test and process environments.
Follows prescribed work methods in accomplishment of assignments including items such as PPAP systems, GR&R methodology/interpretation. Maintains proper laboratory and test records and files.
Gathers, correlates and applies technical information and data to increase production and quality of company products.
Perform functional and material testing (filled tank drops, bursts, fill studies)
Random dock audits & inspections
Wall dimensional checks
RotoZip cutting on welded tanks
Sets up test and performance evaluations on products and components as required.
Compiles data into various chart forms i.e. histogram, capability charts etc.
Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and suggests application of standard or non-standard techniques.
Performs such individual assignments as supervisors and superiors may direct. Ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality.
Required Training, Knowledge and Experience:
This position, although technical in scope, assignment and direction, is not typically occupied by an academically trained or registered engineer.
Metrology laboratory and inspection experience preferred.
3+ years-related work experience preferred.
Must possess excellent computer and communication skills.
Associates Degree or equivalent combined educational and work experience.
Physical Requirements to Perform the Duties of the Job:
Must be able to maneuver (lift/carry/push) as required 35-160 lbs on regular basis
Use lift assists and carts, as required, to transport tanks
Nothing that would prohibit overnight or extended travel.
Ability to travel (including air travel and long automobile trips).
Working Conditions:
Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds and frequently push up to 160 pounds.
Maneuvers in, around, under and about factory and / or laboratory equipment on a regular and continuous basis.
Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting and bending.
Works at telephone answering equipment, design equipment and at a PC.
