Position Summary:
The Resident Care Associate (RCA) provides personal care, companion care, nursing assistance and other assigned tasks to residents living in Eskaton communities. The Resident Care Associate duties include direct resident care, assisting in daily living activities, grocery or personal shopping, errands and other domestic tasks as well as documentation of care provided. Duties and assignments may be adjusted at the discretion of the Resident Care Director or Memory Care Director based on an evaluation of resident needs.
The starting salary for this position ranges from $20.00 to $24.98/hour. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered.
Position Responsibilities include:
Provides companion care which can include reading, visiting, answering personal correspondence, assisting with bill paying or other tasks as listed on resident's plan of care.
Provides or assists in bathing or showering for thorough cleanliness and hygiene of resident.
Makes beds, straightens rooms, and keeps resident care area in an organized manner.
Assists residents in dressing when needed and demonstrates concern for individual privacy while providing resident care.
Promotes appropriate levels of independence in resident care and demonstrates awareness of safety for both resident and self in providing care.

Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or G.E.D. preferred. Proficient ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language.
Training and Experience:
Six (6) months experience in providing personal care in a residential or long term care setting preferred. Valid/current first aid certification.
Job Knowledge:
Knowledge in performing personal care services in a residential environment. Ability to meet new and/or stressful situations with the appropriate responses. Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team, to share information freely, to use and seek supervision and consultation verbally and in writing, and be able to follow both verbal and written instructions.

V. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Six (6) months skilled nursing care experience preferred. Will train motivated CNA whose goals are to stay in long term care. NOC shift requires a minimum of two (2) years experience
VI. SPECIAL SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATION AND /OR SPECIALTRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work with geriatric population, medical professionals, families and staff, English language a must. Current CA State CNA certificate mandatory for CNA position. Knowledge of proper body mechanics and transfer procedures. Has basic computer skills and knowledge to navigate and use current EMR program/system and point of care. General knowledge of oxygen tanks and equipment. Ability to read and interpret written procedures and directions. Knowledge of proper use of gait belt, and Hoyer lift. Restorative Dining Program - )to preserve the skill of self-
feeding as the ability to self-feed is one of the last self care skills a resident with disabilities is able to perform; utilize verbal/tactile/manual initiation cue during meal time; use appropriate utensils/devices, or adaptive equipment depending on resident's needs).
Maintain master list of residents on Restorative Nursing Programs, up-to-date. Complete as assigned, the weekly summary in a timely manner.
Maintain daily and weekly medical record on attendance and progression or regression on each resident in each program before the end of each shift.
Recognizes the uniqueness of each resident and applies principles of restorative and rehabilitative nursing in caring for each resident; confidentiality, preserving the resident rights, privacy, dignity and self-esteem is part of the total picture of care in this position.

Primary Purpose and Function
The CNA is responsible for the nursing assessment, medication monitoring, intake screenings, monitoring health status to determine if health status warrants transfer for urgent or emergent care, testing associated with detoxification from alcohol and drugs, and provision of alcohol or drug abuse treatment services (including detoxification).
Minimum Qualifications
Current California CNA certification in good standing with no restrictions.
Current professional liability insurance.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in residential healthcare facility preferred.
DHCS Standard 13010(b)(6) requires personnel file to contain health screening report and tuberculosis test results.
Current CPR and First Aid training.
Two (2) years of current, continuous sobriety, if in recovery.
Computer skills adequate to perform word processing and electronic health record duties.

Daily documentation to maintain compliance with JCAHO, IMS, and DHCS regulations;
Accept and transcribe orders from physicians;
Order medications from the pharmacy as necessary;
Accountable for counting, tracking and documenting medications taken by residents;
Audit resident charts for quality assurance;
Monitor/report resident vital signs, COWS, and CIWAS;
Provide and record BAC and UDS tests on residents as required;
Nursing protocols for admission and discharge of residents;
Report residents progress through shift communication log;
Answer phone calls as needed;
Routine checks on all safety and nursing equipment and document;
Report to direct supervisor;
Incident reporting, as needed;
Nurse must be willing to, as needed, conduct property searches of residents and perform routine wellness checks.
