The Bureau of Environmental Health maintains as its principal goal the preservation and protection of the environmental quality of the City of New Haven. Work includes: Utilize and enforce applicable sections of the State Public Health Code, State Statutes, and Municipal Ordinances Resolve cases of childhood lead poisoning; provide educational outreach activities and assist with distribution of federal lead abatement funds to prevent lead poisoning. Investigate and resolve public health nuisances and infractions of applicable statutes and/or ordinances Assist in preparing for and responding to public health emergencies Lead is a poisonous substance found in most homes in New Haven, especially those built before 1978. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS This is a technical position under the general supervision of the Environmental Health Program Director or designee in the Department of Health to perform investigations, education, and outreach for the prevention of childhood lead poisoning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Personally exhibits, recruits and coach's associates consistent with Core Behaviors Responsible for promoting culture of safety Perform final quality inspection of finished products in accordance with the established procedures Report all instances of rejected product or raw materials problems to management Inspect incoming raw materials as materials are received Document appropriate information for quality inspection reports for each order Create and maintain current files for all quality related correspondence Work with shop floor supervisor to review internal rejects from the shop floor Report any unusual discrepancies or problems promptly to management Perform internal quality audits Perform other related duties as assigned Knowledge and ability to use micrometers, vernier caliper, radius gages and other video inspection equipment Competent with applying math skills/tool geometry SKILLS: Knowledge of cutting tools Excellent math aptitude Excellent customer service skills Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Diplomatic and professional when resolving issues Work well under pressure, and have exceptional time management skills Self-motivated and able to work independently Must be able to follow instructions in a fast paced, flexible environment EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent required Prior experience inspecting aerospace cutting tools preferred CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None required WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee is regularly required to speak and hear English, stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Employees are required to use computers and other equipment. Employees frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to clearly focus vision. PPE REQUIRED: Wrist rests for keyboard and mouse pad.
