A postdoctoral research opportunity is available with Clemson University to conduct research on abiotic and biotic stresses affecting cucurbit crops. The selected applicant will conduct research primarily on biotic factors (e.g., viral and fungal diseases) on cucurbit crops including squashes, cucumber and watermelon. Research assignment will include phenotyping cucurbit and watermelon germplasm for tolerance to biotic factors, selecting appropriate genotypes or single plants with resistance and advancing them to develop homozygous lines, identifying QTL regions and developing molecular markers, determining genes being up or down regulated during host-pathogen interactions. Other research projects can include research on diseases of cucurbits including studies to understand inheritance of host resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, genetic mapping, marker development, differential gene expression during disease development on susceptible and resistant cucurbit genotypes etc. Cucurbit crops that the laboratory primarily works on include watermelon, cucumber, melon, and various gourds. The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed for an additional year contingent upon performance and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Job Summary: The Gauge Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Gauge Lab under the supervision of the Laboratory Services Group Leader. The Gauge Lab Technician will utilize the gauge recall software (Engage) to ensure gauges are calibrated as required. The Gauge Lab Technician will also ensure the accuracy and repeatability of gauges by performing and facilitating the performance of gauge calibrations, repairs and Measurement System Analysis (MSA). Gauge Lab Technician Location: Summerville, SC The Gauge Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Gauge Lab under the supervision of the Laboratory Services Group Leader. The Gauge Lab Technician will utilize the gauge recall software (Engage) to ensure gauges are calibrated as required. The Gauge Lab Technician will also ensure the accuracy and repeatability of gauges by performing and facilitating the performance of gauge calibrations, repairs and Measurement System Analysis (MSA). Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Assist in maintaining the safety standards for all operations in assigned work areas. * Coordinate the gauge calibration and MSA systems using Engage to ensure that gauges are calibrated and MSA studies are performed in accordance with applicable requirements. * Coordinate external gauge calibrations with calibration service providers to ensure that gauges are calibrated in accordance with applicable requirements and on time. * Utilize calibration procedures and Metrology Laboratory equipment (CMM, height gauge, contour system, etc.) to perform internal gauge calibrations and verifications to ensure conformance with applicable requirements. * Utilize MSA procedures and knowledge of gauging equipment to participate in MSA studies. * Maintain records of gauge calibration and MSA activities, in both electronic and hardcopy form, and ensure records can be easily retrieved as necessary. * Ensure the availability of calibrated handheld gauges by maintaining a gauge inventory to minimize disruptions to manufacturing operations. * Assist in the development of calibration work instructions to enable internal calibrations. * Support the Metrology Laboratory by using laboratory equipment and gauges to perform various dimensional measurements as necessary to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations. * Use SAP to create purchase requisitions for supplies for the Laboratory Services Group and controlled gauges and calibrations as needed to support all departments. * Generate internal calibration reports to document internal gauge calibrations. * Review certificates of calibration from calibration service providers to ensure conformance with applicable requirements. * Effectively communicate with personnel at all levels, including written and verbal communications, to coordinate the collection and replacement gauges due for calibration or repair. * Assist with Laboratory Services Group administrative functions by creating new jobs, reviewing test reports and participating in internal and external quality audits. * Perform laboratory housekeeping activities to ensure compliance with 5S requirements. * All employees are responsible for having an awareness and understanding of IFA's commitment to IATF 16949 and ISO 14001. * Performs other duties as assigned.
