The Washoe County Employees Association (WCEA) Non-Supervisory Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) covers the Mental Health Counselor II positions at Human Services Agency and the Sheriff's Office.
Juvenile Services falls under the direction of the District Court, and as such, Juvenile Services is not a part of Washoe County's merit personnel system, and Juvenile Services employees are not members of a bargaining unit. However, full-time or part-time permanent employment with the Department of Juvenile Services offers the same attractive benefit package and salary schedule as any other Washoe County Department.
Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.
Additionally, Human Services Agency will run a background check via the Child Abuse and Neglect Registry and employees will be required to have a tuberculosis test. The cost of the test will be borne by the selected applicant(s).
Additionally, for positions with Juvenile Services, a CPR/First Aid certification is required at the time of appointment; after the interview, top candidates must pass a background investigation which includes:

* Candidates must submit to a TB test at own expense upon offer of employment.
Certain positions in the Sheriff's Office have access to criminal justice agency systems including NCIC and CJIS. Nature and Scope
Child Life programming is based on an understanding of normal human development and the impact that illness, injury, disability, and hospitalization have on this process. Program elements are designed to reduce distress, increase adaptive coping and protect and enhance developmental integrity, by offering opportunities to play, learn and interact with others in an emotionally and physically safe environment.
In collaboration with other health providers and in the context of a supportive and trusting relationship with children and families, child life services shall include the following:

The Intake Counselor will help assess the needs of walk-in and telephone callers and ensure their referral to the service or resource to best address their needs.
Responds to telephone and face-to-face inquiries from persons seeking mental health care or information about mental health-related services.

BASIC PURPOSE
The counselor is responsible for advancing the mission of The Salvation Army as stated above. While all counselors are required to have either experience or formal education in the area of addiction or counseling, all counseling is done for the purpose of spiritual regeneration of the individual.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Must have the education, training, and/or experience necessary to work in a rehabilitation setting, with beneficiaries.
Maintain electronic beneficiary file on each beneficiary with timely notes with at least a bi-weekly update.
Facilitate process groups as assigned.
Make classroom presentations on program materials.
Perform one-on-one counseling with an emphasis on spiritual regeneration and problem resolution with beneficiaries using scripture, personal experience and formal educational learning.
Evaluate and present beneficiaries to Program Director for the case review team.
Prepare an aftercare treatment plan and discharge summary for each beneficiary who completes the Program.
Prepare and submit to the Program Director evaluation and written reports as requested, including but not limited to three-month reviews, five-month reviews and discharge summaries.
Attend the weekly Case Conference meeting and provide input on beneficiaries and other relevant program matters.
Other duties may be assigned by immediate Supervisor and/or the Washoe County Coordinators/Program Administrator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
NV-CADC or NV-LADC preferred.
Minimum one year experience with chemical addicts from various socioeconomic groups or advanced course work related to the study of chemical addiction.
Experience or course work in the creation, leadership and management of chemical addiction therapy groups with experience or course work in individual counseling.
Academic training designed to develop skills in working in a twelve-step model or be available for said training.
Strong verbal and written skills essential to read, write and understand the English language.
If the candidate is in recovery, must be able to demonstrate a minimum of two years of continuous and present recovery.
The successful candidate will support The Salvation Army's doctrines, vision statements and position statements.

This role is part time, with flexible scheduling to accommodate personal life or class schedules. We always aim for consistent schedules for our staff.
Shifts are Monday - Friday:
Split Shifts: 6:30 AM - 9:00 AM & 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Qualifications
We have great staff that can teach you skills on the job, but there are some traits that will make you more successful as a Before & After School Youth Care Professional .
You are a fun, energetic, and excited individual
You want to pursue a career in education and childcare such as: HDFS, CDA, Education, Counseling etc…
You have a passion for building a better community
You have the ability to communicate and cooperate with children, other staff and parents.
Minimum of 17 years or older
As part of our commitment to child and member safety, there are some additional steps that all hires will be asked to complete.
You will need to provide 3 references. These references should be professional references if you have work experience. If you don't have work experience, these references can be any non-family member over the age of 18 who can speak to your character and professionalism.
You will also be asked to complete a drug screen for any illegal substances, background check, and fingerprint check.

Our Camp Counselor positions have the potential to serve as competitively paid internships that meet your course credit needs.
First and foremost, your primary responsibilities will be as a Camp Counselor. As an Intern, you will be expected to fulfill your regular daily job responsibilities and it will be up to you to complete your internship responsibilities and to ensure that they do not interfere with your work obligations. Contact your college advisor in advance and ask them if you can use your summer camp job as a practicum, internship or for other course credits. If KE Camps can meet your internship requirements, your on-site Camp Director will be your field supervisor and oversee your course work. You will also be connected to a KE Camps contact at our HQ in Skillman, NJ. To receive credit, you must complete the course, practicum or internship per your college's parameters and complete your summer employment.
As a Camp Counselor, you will be an active participant in all camp activities and will assist your Camp Director with a variety of daily tasks, all with the goal of creating a memorable and meaningful camp experience for your campers. Our Counselors interact with our campers throughout the entire day, helping them make friends, try new things, and generally caring for their well-being. The role of a Counselor is to participate, build relationships and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child.
Camp Counselor Qualities
* Ability to help children grow in character, experiences and insights
* Ability to guard the health and well-being of campers at all times
* Capable of sustaining energy for participation in a full day's worth of activities
* Prior experience working with children
* Enthusiastic, Responsible, Dependable, Consistent, Level-Headed, Flexible, and Calm in all situations
* CPR/First Aid Certified OR willing to become certified before the summer begins
Camp Counselor Responsibilities
* Work with group of campers and provide a fun, safe and exciting camp experience
* Cooperate with fellow Counselors and Camp Director
* Greet families and campers upon arrival
* Support Camp Director in establishing rules and emergency procedures with campers
* Participate in all camp activities
* Supervise daily swim time in a hands-on manner from within the water (lifeguard certification not required)
* Help out where needed and lead activities when asked to by the Camp Director
* Complete other duties, as assigned
