Position Summary
The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology is looking for an energetic, meticulous and dedicated individual to work in a Anatomic Pathology. A qualified candidate will have a specialized theoretical understanding and practical application in all aspects of Histopathology to include tissue processing, sectioning of frozen and EM blocks, and tissue staining.
Responsibilities
* 70% - Tissue preparation for subsequent EM studies: embedding, ultra-microscopy sectioning and staining. Paraffin routine & frozen tissue preparation, embedding, and sectioning. Routine, SS (special), IF (immunofluorescence) and IHC/ISH tissue staining.
* 15% - Facilitates troubleshooting and resolution of routine technical issues. Effectively troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment, which includes all types of equipment. Assists in setting up, evaluating, and troubleshooting new techniques. Responsible for supply inventory management and procurement.
* 10% - Successfully carries out and maintains QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintains statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory. The incumbent will successfully carry out and maintain QA/QC policies and procedures and will ensure compliance and readiness for CAP and NYS periodic inspections.
* 5% - Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related health science field; or equivalent in work experience and education.
* Must hold one of the following licenses: Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Clinical Laboratory Technicians, or Certified Histological Technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
* HT/HTL (ASCP) registered or registration eligible.

The Medical Technologist in the Cytology area of the Lab will be part of a team dedicated to supporting cellular diagnostics within a fast‑paced laboratory environment. This role works in close collaboration with cytotechnologists, pathologists, and physicians to ensure seamless communication and coordination. SCHEDULE - Day Shift:
Monday - Friday from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. No holidays or weekend requirements.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assists the Laboratory Supervisor in achieving efficient Laboratory operation by performing clinical tests. Supports laboratory testing services by performing specimen collection and processing, quality control and maintenance functions, and results reporting and verification. Participates in training and in-service programs to maintain and upgrade competency at the level required by the Supervisor as procedures are changed or added.
EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Licensed or eligible (application pending with a limited license in effect) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York.
2. Employees with a limited license must obtain full license within New York State guidelines.
3. Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (hospital-based formal internship required) OR
4. Bachelor's Degree in related science from an accredited college with subsequent relevant clinical laboratory experience for one year. Degree must include sufficient science and math credits to meet minimum NYSDOH requirements for a Technologist.
5. ASCP, NCA or equivalent certification is highly recommended.
6. Graduate of an accredited MLT Program, who also meets requirement #4 above, the last year of which includes clinical training and a clinical internship, constitutes 6 months of relevant experience. A person hired with these qualifications would be required to be under the supervision of another MT or a supervisor for the first 6 months of employment.

The Department of Clinical Laboratories, Chemistry & Immunology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Supervisor / TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist 1. The successful candidate will:
Functions as Assistant Supervisor, responsible for the operations of the laboratory.
Maintains compliance with departmental, hospital, and all regulatory requirements.
Be in charge and responsible for the operation of the laboratory, and perform day to day laboratory operations, review quality control, and performance improvement activities.
Ensure timely performance of laboratory testing procedures.
Trains personnel in technical methodology and interpretation of results.
Record and archive test and QC results.
Maintain inventory and statistics.
Determine the need to rotate staff or assign staff additional duties in order to maintain work flow smoothly; schedule and assign staff to specific job functions.
Assistant in coordinating administrative operations for the laboratories.
Demonstrate flexibility as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description; perform other job-related duties as business needs warrant and/or are necessary.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Physical or Biological Sciences or equivalent field.
New York State Laboratory Technologist Licensure.
4+ years of experience in Chemistry and Immunology laboratories.
Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training to the above.
Preferred Qualifications:
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification preferred.
