Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an OperatingEngineer II for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Under the direction of the College Ave. Central Heating Plant Chief, maintains, operates and repairs the stationary steam boilers and auxiliary equipment throughout the Rutgers Campus.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
* Responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, motors, pumps, compressors, valves and other auxiliary equipment.
* Operates boilers and pressure vessels at maximum efficiency at all tin1es, resulting in minimum energy consumption.
* Periodically makes comprehensive tests, takes readings of fuel consumption pressure, draft conditions, temperatures, flow and other recordings.
* Adds chemicals to treat steam, water, fuel in accordance with requirements prescribed.
* Ensures compliance with all regulations.
* Keeps work area clean and neat. Performs a variety of maintenance duties as directed by Plant Manager or Senior Shift Supervisor.
* Makes continual inspections of equipment and systems in area of responsibility and reports conditions to the Plant Manager and Senior Shift Supervisor.
* Must be available to cover shifts in emergencies.
* Completes all paperwork in a timely manner. Maintains the logs, records and files of all auxiliary Plants. Gives detail exchange of information to relieving operator. Continually inspects equipment, uses knowledge of Plant layout and !earns alternate ways of maintaining continuous operation. Analyzes problems, both causes and effects, and takes corrective action as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
* A minimum of two years experience in the operation of steam, hot water boilers.
* Also auxiliary equipment as it relates to the boiler plant operation.
Certifications/Licenses
* A minimum of a blue seal is required for this position.
* A valid driver's license is required as well as taking the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred Qualifications
* Chiller Plant experience is also preferred.
* Computer knowledge is CMMS and plant monitoring is also preferred.
Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:This position requires the individual to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, to reach with hands and arms, to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, to talk or hear and taste or smell over 2/3 of the time; to climb or balance up 2/3 of the time and less than 1/3 of the time to sit. The position requires lifting more than 100 pounds under 1/3 of the time, but up to 25 pounds 2/3 of the time and up to 100 pounds 1/3 of the time. There are no special vision requirements because all apply.
Specific duties that require these physical demands:
Standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, using hands to isolate, open and close valves; to lift ladders, climb and balance on stationary and mobile ladders; to hear audible alarms and communicate via various media (telephone, walkie-talkie, radio, annunciator panels). The job requires moving a 55-gallon drum or handling 30 lb. bags of salt for softeners.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate Noise.
The position requires that the individual work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), in high precarious places, and under extreme heat (non-weather) up to 2/3 of the time. The individual will work near moving mechanical parts, be subjected to fumes or airborne particles, deal with toxic or caustic chemicals, risk electrical shock, or vibrations over 2/3 of the time. Work is done under outdoor weather conditions or extreme cold (non-weather), less than 2/3 of the time. There is little or no risk of radiation. The Work

Design scalable, cloud-native applications using AWS and modern backend services to power mission-critical trading workflows
