EM/HM PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Job Summary: The Emergency and Hospitalist Medicine Physician Assistant will deliver primary health care in the Emergency Department or Inpatient setting to include, but not limited to, the recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries, and the provisioning of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on early detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases, Essential Functions: * Obtains and records patient history * Performs physical and medical screening examinations * Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies * Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate * Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc * Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care team * Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management * Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources * Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner * Adequately manages patient flow in the Emergency Department or inpatient unit * Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician * Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards * Actively participates in Department staff meetings and risk management education * Completes required courses, i,e,HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME /CEU requirements * Other duties as assigned Job Requirements: * Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies * Physician Assistant Certification * Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/ Physician Assistant Advisory required * Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Certifications * New Jersey CDS and DEA Licensure * Active membership in a professional organization preferred * Ability and willingness accommodate scheduling needs including working extended hours, weekdays, overnights, weekends, and holidays Knowledge and Skills: * Medical and broad based clinical emergency medicine knowledge * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Excellent time management skills * Ability to effectively and successfully work with all emergency department and hospital employees Additional Information: RWJBarnabas Health is the most comprehensive health care delivery system in New Jersey, with a service area covering five million people. Qualifications: * Graduate of an AMA accredited physician assistant program and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners * 1-2 years of experience in a surgical field or OR experience required * Background in General Surgery and ENT preferred * Required to have obtained BLS and ACLS certifications * Current license as a registered Physician Assistant in the state of New Jersey with Certification by the NCCPA * Graduate of an AMA accredited physician assistant-PA program AND licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners/Physician Assistant Advisory required * CPR Certification, Scheduling Requirements: * Full Time * Day * 40 hours Essential Functions: * Assists physician by recording patient progress notes, issues diagnostic orders, and transcribes orders * Assists with various counseling and education functions * Billing for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board Regulations * Demonstrates satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate care for patients * Develops plan of care for patients in coordination with multidisciplinary team and completes appropriate reports to physicians and family * Documents and maintains patient records of services provided according to facility and nursing standards * Establishes a collaborative relationship with other medical providers * Examines patients to determine presence of illness, utilizing physical findings, laboratory results, medical history, ascertains nature and extent of illness and prescribes treatments as indicated * Interviews, instructs and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention * Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions * Issues prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State Regulations * Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures * Reviews all lab data and documents * Participates in the development of protocols * Performs and obtains a completed medical history and physical data on patients with appropriate documentation and findings * Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations * Responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice * Reviews and audits charts routinely * Sutures wounds, incise and drains wounds, repairs lacerations * Works in collaboration with a physician to diagnose conditions as necessary * Enhances professional growth and development through attendance and/or participation in CME programs Additional Information: Benefits and Perks: At RWJBarnabasHealth, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees' physical, emotional, social, and financial health. * Paid Time Off (PTO) * Medical and Prescription Drug Insurance * Dental and Vision Insurance * Retirement Plans * Short & Long Term Disability * Life & Accidental Death Insurance * Tuition Reimbursement * Health Care/Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts * Wellness Programs * Voluntary Benefits (e.g., Pet Insurance) * Discounts Through our Partners such as NJ Devils, NJ PAC, Verizon, and more!
