Job Overview:
The Cardio VascularTechnician will perform scrub assistant duties in invasive cardiac procedures under the direct supervision of the physician. Specific responsibilities include preparing patients for cardiac cath procedures, cardiac monitoring and scrubbing. Additionally, the Cardio VascularTechnician will prepare the table for procedures, maintaining sterility at all times.
Qualifications:
Required:
* Must have graduated from a Radiologic Technologist (RT) program or RCIS Program
Preferred:
* Previous relevant experience in cardiac catheterization lab or in invasive procedure
Certifications and Licenses Required:
* Must hold a current New Jersey state Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) license, or RCIS certification
Scheduling Requirements:
* Lab hours: Monday-Friday 6:30am-5pm
* Four 10 hour shifts a week
* Required on-call hours at night, and on weekends and holidays

Essential Functions:
* Performs scrub assistant duties in invasive cardiac procedures under the direct supervision of the physician, for which appropriate progressive training and education has been received
* Responsible for the development and maintenance of a clean, safe, and designated sterile environment
* Practices in accordance with the policy and procedures of the hospital, cath lab, and nursing departments and promotes adherence of same among co-workers
* Uses safety precautions in transporting patients as need, placing patient on the table, insuring radiation safety for both the patient and the staff throughout the procedure
* Assists in maintaining the medical stability of the patient throughout their stay in the department by monitoring vital signs and reporting any deviation from normal to the RN or MD
* Prepares patients for cardiac cath by: - Clipping the site, Checks temperature, Maintains patient's privacy and dignity at all times, Applies EKG leads
* Prepares table for procedures, maintaining sterility at all times
* Assesses par levels of supplies and expiration date in cardiac cath lab and notifies inventory technician and/or director as needed
* Operation/troubleshooting of contrast Injectors
* Logging of Daily Quality Control of Avox
* Retrieve patient information from folder - Patient's name, medical records number, date of birth, vital signs, height & weight
* Booting up and down the artis and sensis equipment
* Inserts patient information for acquisition in sensis and optimed systems
* Print reports or burn CD if needed
* Assist with patient transport
* Restocks equipment as needed
* Does not use unapproved abbreviations, accurately documents arrival time for STEMI emergencies
* Takes steps to reduce chance of infection, maintains sterile field
* Refers any issues during off-hour emergencies to head tech or director either the next working day or live if the situation warrants
* Assist nurse during emergencies as needed with supplies, CPR etc.
* Be able to assist MD with cath report

When required for a specific examination, prepare and insert intravenous line if IV certified or notify appropriate personnel to place line. Obtain pertinent clinical data prior to the procedure, including any previous studies and medical history (i.e. history of valve replacement, open heart surgery, heart transplant, stent or pacemaker placements
* Under direct supervision of the physician, assist in the performance of other cardiac diagnostic procedures as required (i.e. pericardial tap, AV optimization). Perform related duties as directed or required.
* Maintain all echocardiography equipment and testing area, including Code Cart. Ensure that the Echocardiography exam rooms have adequate supplies needed daily to perform studies. Ensure that the guidelines of appropriate standards of practice are followed, including awareness of patient safety and initiatives at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Maintain competence and credentials through continuing education.
* Act as preceptors in training students and Fellows in Echocardiography.
* Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in the department.
Confirm that studies performed have successfully been networked to Intellispace Cardiovascular workstation and EPIC for system-wide physician access and retrieval. Maintain all appropriate records of procedures performed. Properly enter all charges and documents into the hospital computer system.

Obtain pertinent clinical data prior to the procedure, including any previous studies and medical history (i.e. history of valve replacement, open heart surgery, heart transplant, stent or pacemaker placements
* Under direct supervision of the physician, assist in the performance of other cardiac diagnostic procedures as required (i.e. pericardial tap, AV optimization). Perform related duties as directed or required.
* Maintain all echocardiography equipment and testing area, including Code Cart. Ensure that the Echocardiography exam rooms have adequate supplies needed daily to perform studies. Ensure that the guidelines of appropriate standards of practice are followed, including awareness of patient safety and initiatives at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Maintain competence and credentials through continuing education.
* Act as preceptors in training students and Fellows in Echocardiography.
* Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in the department.
Confirm that studies performed have successfully been networked to Intellispace Cardiovascular workstation and EPIC for system-wide physician access and retrieval. Maintain all appropriate records of procedures performed. Properly enter all charges and documents into the hospital computer system.

Job Overview:
The Telemetry Technician oversees and interprets the cardiac monitor for arrhythmias and changes in heart rhythm. The Telemetry Unit is a team-oriented unit that provides a wide variety of Medical, Surgical and diagnostic services to a diverse cardiac population. (i.e, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, respiratory compromise and dysrhythmias)
Qualifications:
Required
* HS Diploma or GED
* Completion of a cardiovascular technology course or successful completion of a telemetry/monitor technician course
* Must have the ability to examine heartbeat patterns, noting heartbeat irregularities in real time and ensuring the heart monitors are functioning correctly
* Basic Life Support BLS through the American Heart Association
Preferred
* At least one year of telemetry/monitoring work experience

Essential Functions:
* Promotes and implements the concept of patient and family centered care,
* Promotes a compassionate and supportive environment
* Observes and reports to the Registered Nurse the patient's response to intervention treatments,
* Knows how to activate a code system,
* Gives report on cardiac rhythm to physicians and RN as requested.
* Gives report to oncoming telemetry technician or relief RN,
* Reports to RN all rhythm changes and physicians if available.
* Consults with RN when in doubt of rhythm,
* Communicates and records pertinent information to appropriate individuals,
* Record vital signs and bedside glucose testing results,
* Documents accurately and legibly on appropriate records,
* Collects specimens; labels accurately and ensures delivery to the appropriate department
* Prepares the patient for monitoring using proper techniques in electrode placement,
* Removes and discontinues telemetry transmitter from patients being discharged or transferred
* Cleans and disinfects equipment following procedures as assigned,
* Orders all supplies needed from the storeroom and central supply,
* Stocks all supplies in appropriate locations and reports all shortages to the charge nurse.
* May work in areas where medications are stored,
* This includes checking for expiration dates for kits, trays with meds, IV fluids, needles etc. Rotating and stocking other supplies.
* Maintains inventory of telemetry transmitters each shift,
* Run, interpret and post EKG strips within 3 hours of the start of the shift,
* Maintain integrity of telemetry packs, wires, battery covers
* Provides and maintains a safe environment and performs proper surveillance for the prevention of falls for patients at risk.
* Identifies equipment problems and contacts appropriate departments for repair and replacement.
* Attends meetings and departmental programs as requested,
* Participates in inter-and intra-departmental activities,

* Maintains adequate coverage of monitors at all times,

Required:
* American Heart Association CPR required
* Certification following satisfactory passing grade in the RWJUH Monitor Technician and EKG course

Essential Functions:
* Admitting and Discharging patients
* Attends the central monitoring station on a constant basis.
* Attaches lead and activates telemetry transmitter, then enters patient's information in the central monitoring station and activates alarms.

* Saves a sample rhythm for each patient and prints the sample on the laser printer at beginning of each shift.

* Responsible for attaching and removing telemetry transmitter from patient i.e.. RN and PCT will assist when census is high
* Obtain patients name from secretary
* Always maintain patients confidentiality and privacy
* Introduces self to patient and family and wear appropriate RWJ ID.
* Always check with RN prior to removing transmitter
* Daily job responsibilities
* Interprets and initials each patients cardiac rhythm sample with PR, QRS, and QT intervals.
* Records interpretation on the telemetry record and files the sample behind the telemetry record in the binder.
* Reviews alarm histories three times per shift.
* Prints pertinent alarm samples and files in record.
* Deletes alarm histories after printing.
* On the night shift, retrieves samples acquired during the previous 24 hours for the patient's chart under the "Cardiology" section.
* Retains the telemetry record in the binder for additional documentation.
* Prints all remaining samples when telemetry discontinued.
* Discharges patient from the central station.
* Communication
* Maintains communication with the RN of assigned unit and remote nursing units.
* Notes any changes in patient rhythms and reports them immediately to the primary nurse and records these changes for the nurse and physician to review.
* Telemetry transmitter maintenance
* Manages telemetry equipment and monitor supplies.
* Orders batteries, paper and electrodes as needed.
* Removes batteries from the transmitter, cleans the transmitter and lead sets with germicidal wipes and stores the transmitter and leads in appropriate storage drawer.
