Job Summary:
The LP/Safety Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of maintenance staff and ensuring the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment. This role also involves implementing and managing safety and loss prevention programs to eliminate or control hazardous conditions, using industry best practices and compliance standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain cleanliness and organization of all work areas, including docks, aisles, break areas, restrooms, and offices.
Determine materials, equipment, and staffing needed for various projects; reassign resources as required.
Conduct facility inspections to assess conditions, diagnose problems, and initiate corrective actions.
Plan and schedule routine maintenance activities; set priorities accordingly.
Maintain and repair complex systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical equipment.
Supervise and inspect maintenance work performed by skilled and semi-skilled staff.
Facilitate employee training including safety orientations, certifications (e.g., SSOP, PMHE), and regulatory compliance.
Coordinate with HR and department leads to maintain up-to-date training programs.
Monitor, assign, and review daily tasks for maintenance and safety personnel.
Train employees on theft prevention and response protocols.
Ensure adherence to safety practices, GMP, HACCP, SSOP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
Oversee daily Loss Prevention and facility security operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities:
Lead safety training for new hires and coordinate ongoing training and refreshers.
Stay current on safety regulations and implement improvements accordingly.
Supervise implementation of security measures and contractual security operations.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in general maintenance disciplines (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry).
Working knowledge of safety regulations and standards (OSHA, GMP, HACCP, etc.).
Experience managing or training in Powered Material Handling Equipment.
Organizational and documentation control skills.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in Windows-based computer applications.
Proactive, self-motivated, and collaborative approach to leadership.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum 18 months of post-secondary education or training in general maintenance or related field.
At least 2 years of experience in a maintenance role with exposure to facility systems and regulatory compliance.
High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
Must be able to move throughout a warehouse environment and access all operational areas.
Must be able to work in environments with varying temperatures.

Fire and Life Safety Technician
Safety manager job in Blacksburg, VA
The Fire and Life Safety Technician will be reporting to the Assistant Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental Quality. In this role, the primary responsibility will be to ensure that Student Affairs residence halls, dining centers, and student centers comply with local, state, and federal fire codes.
Job duties will include conducting inspections of fire extinguishers, exit signs, and emergency lights, performing building walkthroughs and inspections to identify fire code violations and safety concerns. The position may also make small repairs to life safety elements. The role will involve communicating, scheduling, and escorting subcontractors such as fire alarm and sprinkler contractors, handling invoicing and quotes, submitting work orders, and performing minor repairs to sprinkler and fire systems. The Fire and Life Safety Technician will also work closely with the State Fire Marshal(s) and local fire departments to ensure compliance and resolve any issues that may arise.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of students, employees, and visitors within Student Affairs facilities, and requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
Required Qualifications
• Associate's Degree program in electronics, fire alarm systems, or directly related field, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
• Experience and knowledge of fire codes and NFPA regulations.
• Experience working with commercial fire alarm systems such as Simplex/Johnson Controls.
• Experience working with fire sprinkler systems and hoods.

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range
