The Role
Under general direction, The Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing a variety of clinical services including: individual and specialized group counseling to meet the needs of persons served, intake/screening assessments for program applicants, crisis counseling and family counseling. Conducts psychosocial assessments, mental health/mental status examinations and makes treatment planning recommendations as well as internal and external client referrals. Serves as a liaison to community agencies and organizations. Assists with fostering professional linkages, relationships with concrete services/other community service providers and referral sources.
Designs and facilitates specialized, therapeutic groups based upon client and program need.
Facilitates in-service staff training designed to respond to anticipated and/or identified areas of need.
Adheres to social work standards and ethical principles, agency policies and procedures, and maintains professional relationships with other disciplines, clients, and community supports.
Demonstrates a commitment to maintaining the knowledge and skill necessary to facilitate didactic, process experiential and supportive group approaches.
Qualifications
Who You Will Be
MSW degree needed only for designated programs/divisions OR
Must obtain LMSW-Permit within 90 days of hire and licensure within one year of employment for designated programs/divisions OR to obtain QHP (Qualified Health Professional) status within designated OASAS regulated programs OR
NYS LMSW licensure for designated programs/divisions.
NYS LCSW licensure.
Experience working with DHS CARES Software.
Knowledge of multi-disciplinary team experience.
Knowledge of techniques for identifying and preventing potentially violent behavior, including crisis management techniques.
Ability to develop, evaluate, implement and modify a clinical treatment intervention to meet the needs of individual participants.
Competency in written, interpersonal, verbal and computational skills to present and document records in accordance with program standards.
Knowledgeable about federal, state and local law and regulation governing substance abuse treatment programs.

Advocate for clients' rights to protect the best interests of the client, including in both the civil and criminal justice systems.
Engage in service coordination and collaboration with clients and community partners to ensure effective protective actions and strategies are taken on behalf of clients.
Conduct outreach and training presentations to identified communities and providers, informing them about human trafficking, the impact of trafficking-related trauma on victims and the services that the Anti-Trafficking Program provides, in collaboration with the Training and Outreach Manager.
Participate in community forums, panels, working groups, and anti-trafficking networks.
Active participation in bi-weekly staff meetings, individual supervision and group supervision.
Qualifications:
Counseling experience, especially from a trauma informed and client centered framework.
MSW degree and at least one year of experience working with trafficking survivors or similar populations.
Prior direct service experience with one or more of the following populations/issues: trafficked persons, immigrants, survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, refugees, and/or torture survivors.
Adept at managing relationships with various levels of the government and law enforcement.
Comfort consistently reflecting on client work, discussing challenges in supervision, and integrating supervisor guidance.
Excellent and effective writing skills, organization and communication skills required as well as computer skills.
Prior experience and current interest in organizing and executing group trainings
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
Ability to work cohesively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team comprised of legal staff, social workers, community trainers, survivor advocates leaders, policy advocates and administrative staff.
Cultural competency and linguistic fluency in a second language required (Spanish).

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Under general direction, the Senior Mental Health Specialist is responsible for the coordination of all mental health related treatment activities within a designated program. The Senior MHS acts as a conduit for all information regarding mental health services between the program's management team and clinical staff. The Senior Social Worker is lead staff in the evaluation and treatment of dual diagnosed and other clients and will be responsible for the design, creation, and implementation of on-site service training. May provide supervise to Social Worker staff and students/professionals in training as designated by the agency. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village
Responsibilities

Conducts mental status examinations and bio-psychosocial assessments.
Conducts individual, group and family counseling consistent with the objectives identified in clients' individual treatment plans and makes referrals for appropriate levels of care for designated clients based on the needs of the program.
Makes referrals for appropriate care levels for designated clients.
Designs and implements mental health in-service education for clinical staff.
Designs and trains clinical staff to deliver client lectures/seminars.
Provides mental health resources to clinical staff.
Supervises facility social work staff and social work interns/professionals in training.
Audits client treatment records of supervisees for compliance with agency standards for completeness, timeliness and appropriateness.
Facilitates in-service staff training designed to respond to anticipated and/or identified areas of need.
Adheres to social work standards and ethical principles, agency policies and procedures, and maintains professional relationships with other disciplines, clients, and community supports.
Demonstrates a commitment to maintaining the knowledge and skill necessary to facilitate didactic, process experiential and supportive group approaches.
Ensures maintenance of accurate, complete, timely and high-quality client records that comply with external regulatory standards and agency policy and procedure.
Complies with 42 CFR confidentiality and HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
Functions as a liaison/advocate to clients' families and/or other agencies as needed.
Works cooperatively with other staff as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
Participates as a member of program's management team.
In designated programs, monitors program participants for signs and symptoms of physical, sexual, and other forms of abuse/domestic violence, conducts trauma assessments and makes notification as mandated by agency policy and NYS laws.
Keeps abreast of changes in field.
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
Master's Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counselor.
Minimum Two-Three (2-3) years demonstrated clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health treatment or Shelter experience for designated programs based on needs of the facility.
Prior supervisory experience and the ability to lead a team.
Strong assessment and writing skills and familiarity with various therapeutic models of care, i.e. Trauma Informed Care, Family Model of Care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), etc.…
In depth knowledge of NYC/NYS diverse network of medical and behavioral health care organizations, including substance use disorders, treatment services, education and employment services, and non-traditional community support groups.
Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR.

The Role
Under general direction, the Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing counseling and casework services to individuals who have mental illnesses and/or substance abuse problems. Assesses patient's mental status through interviews and observations and then develops treatment plans or makes referrals to appropriate services.

Works with patients and their families to determine goals for treatment.
Solicits family information, observations and concerns.
Interviews, observes and develops treatment plans for patients.
Implements, goals, policies and activities designed to meet program objectives
Conducts individual and group therapy sessions for patients with mental illness, emotional and substance abuse problems.
May assess incoming clients and eventually help prepare them for transitioning home.
Provides referrals to appropriate mental health resources.
Monitors patient's treatment progress and keeps track of their mental status.
Consults with other mental health professionals to provided effective courses of treatment.
Provides crisis intervention services to patients who are in danger to themselves and others.
Keeps accurate records of patient records and treatment provided.
Evaluates and utilizes community mental health resources as needed.
Who You Will Be
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling.
At least 1-2 years demonstrated clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health treatment for designated programs based on needs of the facility.
In depth knowledge of NYC diverse network of medical and behavioral health care organizations, including substance use disorders, treatment services, education and employment services, and non-traditional community support groups.
Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR.
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
License/Certification Required:
To obtain QHP (Qualified Health Professional) status within designated OASAS regulated programs, MHC-Permit required and must obtain within 90 days of hire OR
NYS LMHC licensure for designated programs/divisions.

Clinical Director (LCSW or LMHC)

Salary: Up to $90,000 per year
Purpose of the Position
The Clinical Director is responsible for the programmatic service delivery in partnership with the Program Director, with emphasis on Behavioral Health Services. Responsibilities include implementation of new program design to bring intensive clinical services into program plan for clients. Other responsibilities include evaluation, reporting, supervision of clinical and social service staff. The Clinical Director uses Evidenced Based Practice (EBP), treatment plans, case management, crisis intervention, and discharge plans to assist the Social Services team with person centered planning for all Win clients.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise the program's multi-disciplinary team, which will include Social Service Supervisors, Case Managers, and Client Care Coordinators.
• Provide supervision to Social Service Supervisors to troubleshoot client issues, and enhance direct reports clinical case management skills in accordance with program policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Provide clinical supervision to Client Care Coordinators to ensure supportive counseling is provided to clients.
• Provide coaching, training, and staff development to the Social Service team by incorporating social work values into program services, embracing a clinical lens.
• Provide management oversight to the supportive housing process.
• Train and support staff in the use of Evidence Based Practices (EBP), promote Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), Critical Time Intervention (CTI) to exceed program goals and help clients achieve permanent housing.
• Conduct audits of the Uniform Client Chart and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), Department of Homeless Services (DHS), contractual requirements and Win standards.
• Establish linkages with appropriate community agencies for services required by shelter residents, to include medical, mental health, substance abuse, child welfare and other stakeholders working with Win clients.
• Conduct community outreach and liaison with ancillary programs to maximize onsite care-coordination and referral process; establish long-lasting partnerships.
• Monitor incident follow-ups, ensuring optimal clinical lens during crisis intervention; provide direct client care and assessment to identified clients.
• Identify and consult in coordination of care for high-risk clients in collaboration with Program Director to make clinical decisions regarding client care and safety.
• Monitor and engage all long-term stayers within the facility by conducting case conferences with families, as well as monthly meetings with interdisciplinary staff as it relates to long term stayers.
• Liaison with ACS and ensure to attend all meetings related to ACS/Preventive interactions and provide information as a Mandated Reporter to the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) as needed.
• Support Program Director in preparation of reports in accordance with Win and regulatory agencies.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
Essential Functions:
• Must be able to ascend/descend stairs in the assigned building.
• Must be able to escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Must be able to work evenings, at least weekend on call monthly, and some holidays.
Qualifications:
• Commitment to Win's mission, vision, and values.
• Current NYS LCSW or LMHC license and three (3) years of supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating groups and developing curricula.
• Demonstrated experience working with individuals with mental illness and substance abuse, preferably with homeless families.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus.
