Nurse Extern wage is $15.63/hour and a $500.00 stipend will be provided to Nurse Externs after 90 days of employment to assist with license testing fees. San Luis Valley Health is seeking PRN Student Nurse Externs in various departments. Nurse Externs will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. The intention of this position is to promote candidates who are interested in committing to a long term position as an RN. Qualified candidates will possess the following education and skills: What You'll Need: In good academic standings, enrolled in Board of Nursing approved program in your senior year. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Previous experience as a Certified Nurse Aide (C.N.A.) or EMT - Basic preferred. Successful completion of enough clinical nursing courses to have obtained competency in performing basic health care tasks. Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice. What You'll Do: Provides direct and indirect nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with policies and procedures Perform basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by a Registered Nurse, including by not limited to, monitoring vital signs, taking point of care glucose measurements, and recording intake and output. Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, as directed by a Registered Nurse. Uses critical thinking skills and increase your confidence as a nursing professional. Maintain the cleanliness and safety of patient rooms/environment. Notifies appropriate personnel as needed when issues with cleanliness and safety cannot be immediately resolved. Assist to maintain, support, and implement department and Hospital's mission and goals. Understands the scope of practice as it pertains to all clinical staff related to delegation. The unlicensed Nurse Extern must have received didactic and clinical instruction in IV therapy to participate in aspects of IV therapy. May participate in the provision of the following aspects as directed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse include peripheral IV insertion with use of saline flushes, changing IV dressing and discontinuation of IVs.
