Nurse Extern wage is $15.63/hour and a $500.00 stipend will be provided to Nurse Externs after 90 days of employment to assist with license testing fees.
San Luis Valley Health is seeking PRN Student Nurse Externs in various departments. Nurse Externs will work under the direct supervision of a RegisteredNurse to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. The intention of this position is to promote candidates who are interested in committing to a long term position as an RN. Qualified candidates will possess the following education and skills:
What You'll Need:
In good academic standings, enrolled in Board of Nursing approved program in your senior year.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Previous experience as a Certified Nurse Aide (C.N.A.) or EMT - Basic preferred.
Successful completion of enough clinical nursing courses to have obtained competency in performing basic health care tasks.
Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
What You'll Do:
Provides direct and indirect nursing care under the direction of a RegisteredNurse and in accordance with policies and procedures
Perform basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by a RegisteredNurse, including by not limited to, monitoring vital signs, taking point of care glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, as directed by a RegisteredNurse.
Uses critical thinking skills and increase your confidence as a nursing professional.
Maintain the cleanliness and safety of patient rooms/environment. Notifies appropriate personnel as needed when issues with cleanliness and safety cannot be immediately resolved.
Assist to maintain, support, and implement department and Hospital's mission and goals.
Understands the scope of practice as it pertains to all clinical staff related to delegation.
The unlicensed Nurse Extern must have received didactic and clinical instruction in IV therapy to participate in aspects of IV therapy. May participate in the provision of the following aspects as directed under the supervision of a RegisteredNurse include peripheral IV insertion with use of saline flushes, changing IV dressing and discontinuation of IVs.

Availability Requirements: All RN Float pool PRN's must be available for at least 24 hours of work per month. They may identify the days and shifts they are available. A general availability should be provided, with a more detailed availability submitted the month prior to scheduling. PRN's are expected to work up to the 24 hours per month, unless no shifts are available for the approved divisions they are trained or cleared for.
Multi-Division Coverage Options: Hospice, Palliative and PACE service lines in the Grand Valley, Delta & Montrose areas.
Requirements:
Must have unrestricted RN license in the State of Colorado

Job Summary
The RegisteredNurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to residents. Functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
Qualifications
Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred.
Minimum of 18 years of age.
Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
