Adheres to the Culture, Mission and Values of the Brazos County Sheriff's Office; Follow the Inmate Behavior Management philosophy; Follow the Direct Supervision model of inmate supervision; Observes and supervises inmates; Performs searches of inmates and persons entering the secured area of the Brazos County Detention Center; Supervises, schedules and documents activity within the jail, including recreational activities, religious activities, educational activities, work activities, telephone activity, family visitations, unclothes searches, library and educational activities, mail activity, head counts of inmates, inmate transportation, riots and disturbances, feeding of inmates, and dispensing of medication; Conducts inspections, shakedowns, and inmate searches, including searching inmates and cells for contraband items; Dresses out inmates and puts them in their cells; Pulls inmates for visitation, recreation, and other activities; May transport Inmates between various facilities; Completes necessary reports and documents; Enters inmate information into the computer, and maintains and updates inmate records; Inspects and maintains safety equipment, detection and alarm systems; Assists with distributing medications to inmates; Intervenes and resolves crisis situations such as fights and medical emergencies, including physical restraint of inmates; Conducts head counts of inmates; Serves meals to inmates; Supervises work performed by inmates; and Operates Detention Center and master control panel. Employees in this job classification that are licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and Appointed by the Sheriff as a Deputy Sheriff will have the additional essential duty to serve warrants, enforce state laws, serve civil process, and act as a peace officer of the State.

Supervises and provides security of inmates in mass movements to include large chains, unit fill-ups, and administrative segregation moves systemwide which involve climbing stairs, steps, and ladders and climbing around the inside and outside of buildings; works outdoors and indoors without air conditioning; works around motorized or moving equipment and machinery; and is subject to all types of weather.

Job Description
The Public Safety Officer assists in providing a safe and secure environment for all employees and visitors at assigned location so faculty can focus on teaching and students can concentrate on learning. Provides general assistance (gives directions, answers questions, provides information, etc.) to faculty, staff, students and visitors and projects a positive image of PVAMU by maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor. Contributes to the overall safety and security of students, employees, visitors and PVAMU property by maintaining a uniformed presence. Requests assistance from Prairie View University police officers for law enforcement matters, or off-campus police, fire, and EMS personnel as needed. Assists PMVAMU Police Officers as directed within the scope of responsibility.
Responsibilities:
This Evergreen position will be used by PVAMU
UPD to hire multiple candidates for this role.
Campus Patrol
Patrols campus grounds and buildings on foot or in golf carts; reports safety hazards and physical security deficiencies verbally and in writing.
Walks through buildings monitoring the hallways with attention to classroom activity to create a comfortable and safe academic environment.
Makes written reports regarding suspicious activities. Stays vigilant in order to observe and report any need for police officer response. Periodically tours parking lot to ensure safety of property. Renders vehicle services in the form of jump-starts, vehicle door unlocks, and the calling of wreckers as requested. Enforces PVAMU and location regulations of a non-law enforcement nature (parking, smoking, etc.).
Emergency Response
Responds to medical or fire assistance requests, aiding the Officer and/or leading the responding EMS/Fire Department personnel to the appropriate location in conjunction with a PVAMU Police Officer.
Monitors and responds to fire alarms, checks fire extinguishers while on patrol to ensure that they are in place and charged, and reports those that need maintenance.
Responds to low risk calls for service to assess the scene and determine the need for police, fire, or EMS response.
Customer Service
Ensures faculty and staff have access to the facilities they need to perform their job upon request.
Locks/unlocks doors on a regular schedule and as requested by individuals (if appropriate).
Provides general assistance to students, visitors, faculty and staff as needed. Answers questions from employees and visitors. If unable to give correct information, directs them to the proper person to answer their question.
Directs traffic and guests on events held at various locations within the confines of PVAMU owned or controlled property.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
High School graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Six months related experience or six months as Security Officer in Training with demonstrated proficiency in all phases of duties performed.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree or higher.
