The Los Angeles Times is seeking to hire a reporter for its Washington, D.C., bureau.
We are looking for a versatile and energetic journalist who can produce rapid-response investigations and enterprise reporting on the Trump administration, with a particular focus on stories relevant to a California audience, in addition to daily coverage of news out of Washington.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to develop original and ambitious journalism, as well as cover breaking news with clarity and depth under demanding deadlines. Previous experience covering government, and the ability to operate in a quick-paced multimedia environment, are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
Report stories across official Washington, conducting quick-turn investigations off the news of the day
Cover breaking news and major events with an eye to unique angles that will set Times coverage apart
Cultivate sources and contacts to aid in the execution of a range of stories
Appear on TV, radio and podcasts on behalf of the L.A. Times to reach new audiences with your work

Requirements:

What you'll do:
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise written content and visual materials
Develop and maintain system documentation, technical diagrams, SOPs, and user guides
Create and update technical roadmaps, workflows, and other visual artifacts to support planning and communication
Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and project managers to gather and refine technical requirements
Produce communication materials for senior government stakeholders, both technical and non-technical
Ensure all documentation aligns with project goals, client expectations, and security classification requirements
Support the development of briefing materials and reports used in recurring client engagements
Work independently to manage documentation tasks and deliverables under tight deadlines
What you'll need to succeed:
Minimum 7 years of experience as a Technical Writer or carrying Technical Writing responsibilities.
Active TS/SCI CI Poly clearance
Experience developing technical diagrams, graphics, roadmaps, etc.
Experience developing PowerPoint presentations and slicks for a variety of stakeholders
Ability to understand and distill complex technical concepts into digestible materials/products
Experience as the content owner for all developer documentation, as well as external tenant/customer documentation.
Experience with content auditing and knowledge management for intranet-type websites
Experience working in an Agile Software environment.
Ability to work independently.
SALARY RANGE: $73,000 - $110,000
The salary range for this position is determined based on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. The final salary offered will be determined based on several factors including:
The candidate's professional background and relevant work experience
The specific responsibilities of the role and organizational needs
Internal equity and alignment with current team compensation
This role is also eligible for additional compensation, subject to the terms and policies of MetroStar, which may include:
Performance-based bonuses
Company-paid training and/or certifications
Referral bonuses
