Summary of Position: This position is a 12-month, part-time, hourly position that reports to the Director of Campus Police and Emergency Management. This position serves as a sworn officer for the Office of Campus Police and oversees the safety and security of the Marion Campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Prevent crime through high visibility and patrolling
* Maintain building security, including locking and unlocking facilities
* Investigate crimes reported to have occurred on or near campus property. Detain and arrest individuals suspected of criminal activity
* Prepare reports consistent with criminal acts, traffic accidents, traffic enforcement, or university policy violations
* Monitor traffic violations on campus (moving and parking); issuing citations
* Respond to medical emergency situations and coordination with EMS and University partners
* Greet students, visitors, faculty, and staff

* Conduct foot and mobile patrols of campus property

Role Overview:
As a Correctional Officer at the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a multi-level security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for juvenile males. During the 2 week pay period, Correctional Officers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend.
Salary:
This position starts at a $22/hour base pay, equating to $1,886.50 biweekly or $49,049.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
* Monitor assigned areas at various intervals for security of incarcerated individuals, count of incarcerated individuals, and security of buildings and grounds.
* Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures.
* Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details including general clean-up of institutional grounds and buildings.
* Escort incarcerated individuals to and from various locations across the facility for food, medicines, work assignments, and recreation.
* Keep records and make reports on such matters as incarcerated individuals movements, activities, and rule violations.

As a result of the duties associated with this job, there is the potential of becoming exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious diseases. To safeguard employees and eliminate the liability placed on Hamilton County, employees working in this position shall begin the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination and subsequent training within 10 days of their initial job assignment per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030(f)(2)(i). The initial and two subsequent vaccinations shall be administered by the Hamilton County Health Department and free of charge to the employee. Incumbent serves as Correctional Officer for the County Community Corrections Work Release program, responsible for supervising daily activities of participants and ensuring compliance with program rules and regulations.
DUTIES:
Supervises and directs Community Corrections Work Release program operations, including scheduling/verifying work and other leave from the facility, orienting new participants, maintaining detailed records, providing participants with meals, and distributing medication.

Teaches Evidence Based classes to program participants.
Inspects living quarters of program participants for cleanliness and contraband and prepares written report of findings. Distributes personal items as needed, and launders bedding upon change out.
Maintains interior and exterior security of facility, including conducting rounds and monitoring surveillance cameras, door controls, meals, and visitors. Maintains accurate counts of all participants. .
Responds to inquiries and maintains communication with employers, victims, and victims' families.
Answers telephone and greets visitors, providing information and assistance, taking messages or directing to appropriate individual or department.
Receipts payments from participants for fees, meals, and phone cards.
Remains current on education and best practices in the correctional field, including utilizing effective communication and motivational strategies when communicating with program participants. Completes a minimum of forty (40) hours of continuing education and required training annually.

Role Overview:
As a Correctional Officer at the Miami Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a maximum security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical 12 hour shift, you will maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals, while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. During the 2 week pay period, Correctional Officers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend.
Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
Salary:
This position starts at a $22/hour base pay + $2/hour of differential pay, equating to $2,058.00 biweekly or $53,508.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn.
Eligible custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $50 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
* Monitor assigned areas at various intervals for security of incarcerated individuals, count of incarcerated individuals, and security of buildings and grounds.
* Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures.
