As the School SocialWorker, your core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Conducts assessments and evaluations in accordance with family and student rights.
Uses student, family, and school assessment results to identify needs that affect student learning.
Provides social work counseling to students and parents.
Provides psycho-social assessment and diagnosis of behavior disabilities with recommendations and/or environmental manipulations at the school, home, and/or community with periodic reevaluations.
Evaluates transcripts; participates, as requested, in planning, implementation and follow-up phases of proficiency testing.
Participates in Child Study Process and Individual Education Program ("IEP") process as required.
Makes referral to public or private agencies with appropriate follow-up.
Serves as a liaison between school, family, and community resources.
Serves as a source of information regarding community resources.
Participates in case conferences involving cooperation with other pupil personnel workers, school personnel, and community agencies.
Acts as a consultant to resolve problems concerning issuance of credits.
Works with students on an individual basis in seeking solutions to personal problems related to such areas as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment.
Participates in the development of policies and regulations that affect instruction and conditions of success.
Works cooperatively with the Health Education Teachers to carry out the Academy's sex education program.
Provides in-service training for staff in guidance programs and in student conflict resolution and self-awareness programs.
Conforms to the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Code of Ethics, and Standards for School Social Work practice.
Assumes responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.
Maintains and administers the student records system according to the Academy, state, and federal regulations and protects the system's confidentiality.
Organizes time, resources, energy, and workload in order to meet responsibilities.
Participates in appropriate professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
Assumes other responsibilities assigned by the Principal.
Essential Skills and Competencies: While we will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate would have the following qualifications/experience:
Master's Degree in Social Work required
State of Michigan certification (310), temporary approval as a school socialworker, or currently enrolled in a Master's program for School Social Work.
Previous experience working in a school setting
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Compassionate and approachable personality
Strong sense of discretion and professionalism

WHAT WE NEED:
1. Possess a Master's Degree in Social Work.
2. Possess a valid SocialWorker certificate.
3. Possess full or temporary approval as a School SocialWorker.
4. Ability to assess student needs by the appropriate use of agency and school records through interviews of school personnel, family members, and community sources, and by observation of students.
5. Ability to clearly interpret the results of diagnostic procedures to parents, schools, and relevant others and to establish follow-up procedures for monitoring student progress.
6. Assist in developing and establishing programs for children based on the results of diagnostic procedures.
7. Understand and apply the concepts of child learning and development in any diagnostic, treatment, or interpretive situation.
8. Possess a working knowledge of the special developmental and learning needs of handicapped children.
9. Communicate diagnostic data and intervention strategies in writing and orally to relevant individuals.
10. Possess applicable working knowledge of casework and/or group work treatment procedures with children.
11. Must have a working knowledge of special education law.
12. Experience evaluating students with a variety of disabilities including ASD, SLD, EI, CI, VI, HI, PI, OHI, SLI, and ADHD.
13. Flexibility and willingness to attend training.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
*Provide school social work services which include identification of needs diagnostic process, interpretation and recommendation, consultation, treatment, and professional growth and development.
*Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.
Work with students as part of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process.
*Administer appropriate tests and assessment batteries, conduct interviews, and observations, and consider information from all pertinent sources in conducting comprehensive evaluations of students who have been referred as having suspected disabilities under the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
*Formulate and implement functional behavior assessment and behavior plans with parents, school personnel, students, and other professionals and agencies; establish procedures for follow-up and monitoring of cases as well as maintaining regular communication with building principals concerning individual cases.
*Supply direct service to students and families. Indirect services such as consultation, coordination of services within the school, development of programs within and outside of school, and making referrals to agencies and follow-up are examples of indirect services that may be supplied by the school socialworker.
*Complete comprehensive written reports and records on students in a clear and meaningful manner.
Serve as a member of Child Study Process, Child Screening Committees, and/or similar groups to screen and assess students experiencing school-related problems and to improve existing school programs and procedures in meeting the educational needs of students.
*Serve as a liaison between the school, home, and community in building and maintaining positive relationships.
*Record and submit all data relevant to the School-Based Medicaid Reimbursement program.
*Serve as a member of evaluation teams, Individual Planning and Placement Team meetings (IEPTs) Manifestation IEP meetings.
*Attendance to the job is required.
*Lifting above the head and bending required.
*Other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by the building administrator or designee.
POSITION OVERVIEW: To provide effective services within the domains of assessment, consultation, and intervention; to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Provides direct counseling, behavioral support, and indirect interventions through consultation for students who experience mental health problems that impair learning and/or socialization.
Participates as part of special education, 504, and problem-solving teams, providing consultation and support to both school staff and parents, to improve academic and social emotional-behavioral functioning.
Applies understanding of the influence of culture, background, and individual characteristics when collaborating with others, and when designing and implementing interventions, to achieve learning and behavioral outcomes.
