    Electrical Engineering Internship - Spring 2026 SOFWERX is a venue operated under an agreement between the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and DefenseWERX, designed to increase collaboration and innovation to solve the most difficult warfighter problems. SOFWERX is a forum for accelerating delivery of innovative capability, and facilitating capability refinement through exploration, experimentation, and assessment of promising technology. SOFWERX is in the heart of Ybor City, at a neutral, easily accessible facility. The internship program is administered by USF Institute of Applied Engineering. Upon hire, you will be considered both a USF IAE Temporary Employee and a SOFWERX student intern. Requirements MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SECURITY CLEARANCE Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Physics Junior or Senior level, with a current GPA of 3.0 or above Knowledge of embedded programming, power electronics, and control systems is a plus Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is a plus Experience working with a variety of engineering students Effective written and oral communication skills Good planning and organizational skills- A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, enthusiasm, and confidentiality. Responsibilities Assist with the design, development, and testing of electrical systems for defense-related technologies and prototypes. Support integration of embedded systems, sensors, and control electronics into robotic or communication platforms. Conduct research on emerging technologies, electrical components, and power systems relevant to SOFWERX projects. Participate in hardware troubleshooting, circuit design, and system validation activities. Engage with engineers, subject matter experts, and project teams to contribute to innovative, real-world solutions. Participate in weekly market research and submit entries on new technologies, components, or companies that could support future innovation. Time commitment Hours of operation are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday. This position requires a minimum of 15 hours and a maximum of 20 hours per week during the Fall/Spring semesters and a minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of 29 hours per week during the Summer semester. This internship is in-person with limited remote work opportunities. You will execute engineering tasks as part of cross-functional team on new product development programs responsible for concept architecture, requirements, design, analysis, and test of inertial sensors products over a wide range of operational environments for Commercial, Defense and Space customers. **Key Responsibilities:** + Execute Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) design and development project tasks (architecture and planning, requirement definition, analog/digital/power-conversion circuit design, analysis, Printed Board (PB) layout review, and verification/test, etc.) by following established engineering methodologies for new hardware development. + Guide engineers, technicians and associates to ensure project and product requirement compliance. + Clearly and concisely convey subtle or complex messages via presentations and in writing to a variety of technical audiences including leadership and external customers. + Consult with suppliers to ensure product and project compliance. + Communicate any non-compliance incidents and results of internal project audits to stakeholders.Identify and execute cost, schedule, and technical efficiency improvements. **MUST HAVE:** + Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics. + 4+ years' Electrical Engineering experience. + 2+ years experience in lab testing and debugging complex electronic circuits **WE VALUE** : + Significant experience working with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and logic analyzers to characterize and solve problems in electronics circuit card assemblies. + Experience designing with modern processing technologies and architectures including micro-processors, FPGAs, and ASICs; DDR and flash memories; high speed physical and wireless communication and interconnects; and interfaces to sensors and guidance electronics. + Proficiency with Mentor Graphics Xpedition Enterprise Design Suite, HyperLynx analysis (Signal and Power Integrity), Timing Analysis, Decoupling Analysis, and LTSpice. + Strong aptitude for low noise analog and sensor interface design and analysis, signal processing and conversion. + Strong SPICE simulation experience including parametric modification and validation including Monte Carlo technique. + Ability to generate PB layout constraint guidelines, oversee the layout and fabrication of the design. + Experience ensuring designs meet the industry standards of DO-254 for Avionics Hardware Development and Certification. + Ability to work with cross-functional teams to meet expectations of internal and external customers.
