They are seeking a Design Engineer to join the growing engineering team and support end-to-end project execution-from concept development and CAD modeling through fabrication support, installation guidance, and customer interaction. Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings, models, and technical specifications for custom construction and fabrication projects.
Translate customer concepts, architectural drawings, and engineering requirements into accurate design packages.
Ensure all designs meet structural, code, and manufacturing requirements.
Perform engineering calculations, material analysis, and feasibility assessments as needed.
Project Support & Coordination
Collaborate closely with project managers, fabrication teams, and field crews to ensure design intent is accurately executed.
Participate in design reviews, troubleshoot issues, and adjust drawings to accommodate site conditions or changes in scope.
Support creation of manufacturing routings, BOMs, cut lists, and assembly instructions.
Fabrication & Manufacturing Interface
Work directly with in-house fabrication teams to optimize manufacturability and reduce production bottlenecks.
Provide shop-floor support, including clarifying design details, resolving engineering questions, and validating prototypes.
Evaluate materials, fabrication processes, and vendor capabilities to ensure efficiency and quality.
Customer & Field Support
Engage with customers to understand requirements, present design concepts, and incorporate feedback.
Provide technical guidance during installation or field construction activities as needed.
Respond to customer inquiries related to design changes, product functionality, or technical troubleshooting.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related technical field.
2-5 years of experience in design engineering, custom fabrication, construction engineering, or related industry.
Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, or similar).
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, or modular construction.
Experience generating fabrication drawings, assemblies, and detailed design documentation.
Strong problem-solving ability with a hands-on, collaborative approach.
Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.

The Machine & Sheet Metal Designer is responsible for creating detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and engineering drawings for machinery, sheet metal components, and fabricated assemblies. This role supports engineering, production, and manufacturing teams by ensuring designs meet functional requirements, cost objectives, safety standards, and manufacturability guidelines. The Designer will work primarily in an office/shop environment producing designs and specifications under the direction of the director. The Machine & Sheet Metal Designer is responsible for creating detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and engineering drawings for machinery, sheet metal components, and fabricated assemblies. This role supports engineering, production, and manufacturing teams by ensuring designs meet functional requirements, cost objectives, safety standards, and manufacturability guidelines. The Designer will work primarily in an office/shop environment producing designs and specifications under the direction of the director. The position will interface with clients as needed and travel to client facilities to measure physical dimensions for machinery and observe production lines. The position will provide assistance in the shop when required.
Key responsibilities:
Design & Drafting
Develop 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for machines, equipment, tooling, and sheet metal components.
Create fabrication drawings, weldments, flat patterns, and detailed sheet metal layouts.
Design custom machine components, frames, guards, brackets, and other mechanical parts.
Produce accurate BOMs (Bills of Material), tolerances, dimensions, and GD&T.
Engineering Support
Collaborate with engineers, machinists, fabricators, and project managers to refine design requirements.
Modify designs based on testing, prototyping, and customer feedback.
Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety requirements, and internal engineering practices.

Manufacturing Integration

Responsibilities
A Typical Day Might Include:
The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.
Interprets, organizes, executes and coordinates medium assignments with the overall responsibility for budget adherence, quality control and inter-discipline coordination.
Makes decisions independently on design problems, practices and methods, but may receive input on unusual or complex problems from the department manager or project engineer for proposed design solutions.
Produces finished plans and specifications and final acceptance or rejection of major items involving materials, equipment, manufacturer's quality and field construction results.
Completes work on major engineering projects or total design work on projects of smaller or moderate scope.
Serves as a job captain on single discipline projects and may serve as a job captain on multi-discipline projects.
Prepares or reviews budgets based on experience and scope of project.
May be requested to perform project management functions.
May assign and review work of project design team. Checks progress of work and alerts project manager to changes of scope or additional services.
May devise new approaches and solutions to problems encountered and communicate them to the team.
May represent the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate a project.
May prepare total design and construction cost estimates.
Travel to client site is required for data gathering and field technical support.
Qualifications
Qualifications You'll Need on Day One:
Associate degree or certification of completion of other post secondary training in engineering fields preferred.
Minimum (8+) years experience with SSOE as a Designer or ten (10) years experience with former employer(s).
Prior experience in machine design, material handling equipment is required.
Exposure to and familiarity of automation and equipment design, ductwork systems, and fabrication weldments.
Exposure to and familiarity of facility/utilities layout design, process layout, PFDs, and PIDs.
AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor experience is required.
Experience with Piping and equipment utilities a plus.
Plant 3D experience a plus.
Experience with SolidWorks in lieu of Inventor will be considered.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Valid driver's license required.
Salary Range: $85,000-$90,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.

CAD DESIGNER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
CAD Drafting & Deliverables
Draft and refine site, grading, drainage and utility plans, along with plan/profiles and detail sheets using Civil 3D.
Occasionally perform cut-fill and mass balancing analysis utilizing AutoCAD Earthworks
Maintain and update survey point databases, surfaces, data shortcuts, profiles, and cross-sections within Civil 3D.
Develop and manage a standardized field code library, ensuring consistent layering, symbology, and linework across all projects.
Perform quality control checks on outgoing CAD deliverables to ensure accuracy and completeness.
In supporting our survey department, occasionally Draft and refine topographic maps, ALTA surveys, construction staking plans, boundary plats, and as-built drawings using Civil 3D.
Communication & Coordination
Work closely with licensed engineers, project surveyors, design/production staff, and public agencies to ensure project deliverables meet applicable standards.
Maintain organized project records, metadata, and archive structures.
Participate in cross-office coordination meetings to align data formats, templates, and workflows.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

CAD DESIGNER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:
Education:
5+ years experience required in office-based data processing, and CAD production experience preferred
AutoCAD Civil 3D experience required
Qualifications:
Senior-level CAD design experience, including final submittal preparation and coordination with public agencies
Microsoft Excel advanced data manipulation and file conversion
Demonstrated leadership in developing workflows and mentoring staff
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to react quickly and calmly to high-pressure situations
