EDUCATION Enrolled in Bachelor's or Master's degree program with a major in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Counseling, Family Therapy, or other related human service programs. 1 st or 2 nd year Master's students preferred. EXPERIENCE Social service experience and/or experience working with individuals with mental illness preferred. Ability to synthesize and summarize information and make judgments regarding member care. PLANNING: a. Consult and collaborate with teachers, social workers, administrators, psychologists and other school personnel concerning the needs of individual students. b. Consult with administration, instructional staff and parents in areas pertinent to mental health which do not involve direct service, c. Participate in mutually beneficial meetings with other counseling staff. d. Communicate with other districts for purpose of coordination of special services for students transferring from or into other districts. IMPLEMENTATION: a. Act as liaison for parents whose children are experiencing school related problems. b Act as liaison between the school and colleges or universities. c Assist as liaison for students and their parents in the transition process between district schools and/or programs. d Provide individual and/or group counseling for students and parents as needed. e Provide short-term or long-term casework with students as needed. f Report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect and work with the students and families in these cases. g. Assist in the implementation of the district's development guidance program. h Participate in multidisciplinary staff conferences and annual reviews. i Attend annual reviews at feeder elementary schools for the purpose of transitioning special education students to the high school buildings. j. Maintain notes on students and parents served as necessary. k. Assist in providing testing services designed to assess student capabilities. l. Assist students in making realistic educational and career decisions. m. Promote scholarship awareness and assist students in applying for funding. EVALUATION: a.
