As a Utility Field Technician, you will be responsible for identifying utility pathways, cables, pipes, and other conduits that carry utilities underground. The field tech's primary goal is to locate projected utilities using a variety of techniques, excavation, and physical digging in a variety of land conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists SUE Crew Chief in underground utility location performing designating and excavating tasks. Load, unload and maintain SUE equipment daily. Safely excavate to expose subsurface utilities using hand tools and vacuum excavation technologies. Provide accurate measurements for utilities in project limits. Read and interpret utility records, as built and survey drawings and highway design plans. Organize field work, while accurately and efficiently collecting field data, locating features, and deliver data to the office, while maintaining accurate records of work and expenses. Drives, operates, and helps maintain SSMC vehicles. Assists in providing Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) setup, as well as all related safety and other field tasks. Mark utilities with flags and/or paint and produce a sketch of results for future use by the client.
