Duke Life Flight is a CAMTS accredited critical care and Emergency Air and Ground transport agency in Durham, NC, providing services to North Carolina and its surrounding states. We operate two state-of-the-art rotor wing aircraft and a fleet of critical care, and advanced life support ambulances. We are one of few rotor-wing aeromedical Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) capable flight programs in North Carolina. Our respiratory carepractitioners with our Life Flight team transport pediatric, and neonatal patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We provide rapid access to health care for patients when time, specialized skills, and/or specialized resources are critical for survival. General Description of the Job Class Perform and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice, performing work in accordance with physician orders in the neonatal, pediatric and adult patient populations. Duties and Responsibilities of this Level Perform all duties and responsibilities required of a Respiratory CarePractitioner I. Evaluate appropriateness of medical orders. Proficient in the application of mechanical ventilator modalities. Proficient in the application of Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV); Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) Perform endotracheal intubation under the observation of a Supervisor or Advanced Practitioner. Perform extubations. Serve as member of the code/ emergency team. Administer medical gases. Insert nasogastric and orogastric tubes. Perform tracheotomy tube changes. Perform capnography monitoring. Transport patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection. Interpret clinical data to optimize patient clinical objectives. Participate in clinical rounds with physicians, nurses and other health care providers Assist with Bronchoscopy. Assist with orientation and training of Level II RT. Assure safe operations of devices in the MRI. Qualified for certification in the hyperbaric chamber if applicable to the institution scope of practice Required Qualifications at this Level Education Completion of a two year AMA approved Respiratory Care Program - (Associates Degree or the equivalent). Must maintain annual skill maintenance and annual safety/compliance requirements Must maintain North Carolina annual license requirements for CEUs Experience A minimum of three years (preference of four years) experience in clinical respiratory therapy, including a minimum of one year in intensive care respiratory therapy within a neonatal or pediatric ICU. Assist with education of nurses and nursing staff on cardiopulmonary issues and respiratory care. This also includes education on equipment and inhalation treatments.

Job Description:
Consistently performs and documents thorough patient assessments.
Establishes appropriate care plans.
Communicates with other members of the patient care team.
Correctly performs and documents routine therapeutic modalities including aerosolized medications, secretion management techniques, pulmonary volume expansion, oxygen therapy, and assists with routine care and maintenance of artificial airways.
Initiates and manages conventional and high frequency mechanical ventilators according to established protocol.
Provides appropriate, age-specific, patient and family education as it relates to disease management.
Assists in intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
Responsible for acute airway management in emergent situations.
Sets up and manages non-invasive monitoring (i.e. ETCO monitors, pulse oximeters).
When care management not available, assists with discharge planning for patients needing respiratory related DME supplies, follows appropriate insurance guidelines.
Adheres to regulatory requirements and safety standards.
Adheres to institutional and nationally established standards of care.
Collects arterial blood gas samples and processes through point of care blood analyzers.
Maintains the confidentially of patient information according to established internal and external specifications and regulations including release of information and HIPAA.
Functions as the Shift Coordinator (charge person) when designated as such after one year of employment.
Assists the medical team in the performance of fiberoptic bronchoscopy procedures.
Assists the medical team with the placement invasive monitoring lines and obtains hemodynamic measurements and calculations.
Assists in the intra-hospital transport of age specific patient groups.
Functions as a preceptor for orientees and students in their clinical rotation.

Respiratory CarePractitioners:
Perform respiratory care according to policies, procedures, and protocols of Lurie Children's.
Perform patient assessment and analyze laboratory and diagnostic data to assist in patient plan of care.
Institute, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, high frequency ventilation, oxygen delivery devices, aerosol delivery devices.
Provide airway care, administer inhaled medications, perform airway clearance, bronchial hygiene, and lung expansion therapy.
Initiate, monitor, and maintain therapeutic gases including heliox, nitric oxide, oxygen and nitrogen.
Evaluate the patient's progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions, treatments, and therapies and recommends revision in the care plan according to changes in patient needs.
Demonstrate knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization as required.
Informed and up to date in respiratory care by utilizing current respiratory and healthcare literature for information and problem solving.
Communicate with the family and members of the multidisciplinary team to identify health care needs.
Anticipate impending emergent situations and intervenes effectively.
Units We Support:
Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)-
64 single bed unit, committed to providing top-quality care using the most recent advancements in equipment and techniques, with specialized attention to pulmonary issues, critical care, and other specialty needs.
Access to the latest interventions and treatments including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), specialty ventilation techniques, and transplant services .
Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)-
Level IV facility
One of the top programs in the state/region
Specializes in Neurocritical care for infants with neurological problems, severe respiratory issues, lung disease, birth defects and other genetic disorders, and surgical intervention for complex surgical problems.
Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)-
High Tech, state-of-the-art, 48-bed unit, devoted to the care of young patients with cardiac disease.
Positions we are hiring for:
FT 36 hour: Night shift, 7p-7a,12-hour shifts
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a Center on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited program in respiratory care. Minimal requirement: Associate Degree.
Licensure as a Respiratory CarePractitioner in the state of Illinois, active and in good standing.
Active CRT (certified respiratory therapist) Credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC.)
Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, accepting of change, demonstrate adaptability.
Must possess the skills and judgement necessary to implement medical plan of care, clinical interventions and procedures as needed for the patient.
Required within 90 days of hire:
Active RRT (registered respiratory therapist) certification from National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC.)

Graduate from a Center on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited program prior to program start with the minimum of an Associate Degree in respiratory care.
Possess an active Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association, active and in good standing.
Possess an Active CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) Credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Have satisfactorily applied in writing to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Department seeking licensure, have a current license in IL, or have been issued a temporary license in IL.

Summary
The Respiratory CarePractitioner will serve as a valued member of the clinical team to assess, manage, treat and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patients requiring respiratory therapy services. Job Description
The Respiratory CarePractitioner Will:
Conducts patient assessments and interprets clinical data necessary for the delivery of quality patient care.
Implements and evaluates the plan of care related to respiratory procedures including but not limited to aerosol, secretion mobilization, and hyperinflation therapies.
Provides care for patients requiring ventilator assistance, complex respiratory devices and procedures.
Performs comprehensive ventilator management and monitors the cardiopulmonary status of patients receiving intensive respiratory care.
Maintains emergency airway equipment for patients with artificial airways. Performs diagnostic studies on patients as designated by department policy and/or by physician order.
Consults with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals and participates in daily patient rounds for assigned area to promote consistent quality and delivery of patient care.
Completes all documentation for patient charting in compliance with standards for accuracy and content as established by the department and SRAlab. Monitors and documents patient responses to therapeutic interventions and progress toward outcomes.
Assists with the development of clinical research protocols and participates in their implementation.
Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the SRAlab including meeting pre-specified work commitment for float pool employees as specified by the RCP team leader.

Reports directly to the Manager, Respiratory Care.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required:
National Board of Respiratory Care RRT credential or CRT credential with a minimum of 5 years' experience in an acute inpatient setting and completion of RRT within 1 year of being hired.
In lieu of RRT credential will accept CRT credential with a minimum of 8 years' experience as a substitute.
Minimum 2 years of post-school experience as a RCP, one year should reflect experience in critical care.
Current Respiratory CarePractitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Professional Regulation License.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association. Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS)- American Heart Association.
Completion of a nationally accredited degree program in Respiratory Therapy.
Preferred:
Neonatal/ Pediatric Specialist (NPS)- National Board of Respiratory Care. Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) or higher

The Respiratory CarePractitioner/Sleep Technician performs all duties of Sleep Technologist I and II. This position performs comprehensive sleep testing analysis and comprehensive evaluation and treatment of respiratory related sleep disorders under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., and/or PH.D) or designee. This may involve polysomnography with ventilator and positive airway pressure titrations. Has the ability to complete administrative tasks as well as technical duties. This is a technical position with no supervisory responsibilities but can provide respiratory care guidance to all Polysomnographic Technologist.
Essential Job Functions:
Monitors and maintains mechanical ventilator, continuous positive pressure devices, oxygen and humidity devices.
Assesses patients and diagnostic data in order to adjust ventilator and positive airway pressure settings per protocol.
Assesses and evaluates the patient's respiratory care in consultation with physicians, nurses and other health care personnel.
Possesses adept clinical skill in manipulating ventilators and positive airway pressure equipment.
Troubleshoots basic ventilator and positive airway pressure equipment.
Scores sleep/wake stages and scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) standards.
Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data
Demonstrate critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision to analyze complex situations and applies policy.
Evaluates the patient's progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions.
Maintain continuing education requirements for credential by reviewing literature and attending continuing education meeting and seminars.
Respond to sleep patients' procedural-related inquires by providing appropriate education utilizing sleep center protocols.
Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment. Selects amplifier settings, obtains quality data, and analyzes data during recordings.
Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact.
Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a CoARC accredited associates degree program in respiratory care required.
Current licensure as a Respiratory CarePractitioner in the State of Illinois required.
