Job Summary
The Anesthesiology department has an exciting opportunity for an Anesthesia Technician to assist the anesthesia provider with administration and monitoring of anesthesia in a variety of settings. The technician provides support for anesthesia providers by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of anesthesia equipment, transport ICU patients, perform labs at point of care, and resupply of critical items before, during, and after anesthesia care.

Responsibilities*
Preoperative:
* Verify anesthesia supplies and equipment are in the assigned rooms. Checks and replaces anesthesia gas tanks as needed.
* Setup specialty equipment when requested.
* Prepares transducers for peripheral and central hemodynamic monitoring when requested.
* Prepares IVs when requested.
Intraoperative:
* Provide additional supplies and equipment as needed.
* Perform point of care lab tests.
* Operate Cell Saver when necessary.
* Assist anesthesia providers during codes.
Postoperative:
* Clean and disinfect anesthesia equipment.
* Resupply anesthesia machine and cart as needed.
* Setup and run leak test on the anesthesia machine for the following case.
* Resupply medications as needed.
In addition to perioperative responsibilities, Anesthesia Technicians maintain a clean workroom, run quality control tests on point of care lab equipment, and additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications*
* Graduation from high school

Patient Treatment
* Welcome patients into the unit and ask if any changes in health since last dialysis treatment.
* Conduct dialysis machine safety checks according to unit policy/procedure.
* Before initiating hemodialysis, the patient will be identified using two patient identifiers, name and birthdate, picture if available.
* Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
* Evaluate and assess vascular access for patency and abnormal signs/symptoms.
* Cannulate access according to unit policy.
* Responsible for calculating and entry of orders into the dialysis machine.
* Responsible for assuring appropriate safety alarms are enabled.
* Obtain ordered laboratory testing as ordered.
* Prepare lab requisitions for prescribed or stat laboratory specimens according to the laboratory destination.
* Collect, label, appropriately prepare and store lab specimens according to required laboratory specifications.
* Initiate hemodialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD).
* Responsible for accurate documentation in the electronic health record including vital signs, information related to initiation, patient treatment, and termination of treatment and progress notes (if applicable). Documentation to include any intervention for unusual patient status and patients' response to the intervention.
* Evaluate for intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed by RN.
* Monitor patient throughout hemodialysis treatment, including patients' response to dialysis, vascular access site and pressures, and visibility of patients' face and access.
* Obtain vital signs and perform all relevant functions necessary prior to terminating treatment.
* Discontinue dialysis treatment according to approved policies/procedures.
* Evaluate patient post hemodialysis.
* Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings for needles or catheter.
* Evaluate patient prior to discharge.
* Perform and document pre and post dialysis evaluation including weight and vital signs.
* Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
Patient Education
* Assist other health care members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures where appropriate including disease process, access, online clearance monitoring, adequacy monitoring program and urea kinetic modeling.
Technical Duties
* Maintain environmental integrity by assuring all areas are safe and clean.
* Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, back ledge and surrounding area between treatments according to unit policy.
* Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for the dialysis treatment and document appropriately.
* Perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing.
* Ensure all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to unit policy.
* Prepare, organize and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
Documentation
* Complete and document ongoing participation in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
* Documents all treatment information accurately in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
* Review treatment sheets for completeness, ensure nursing signatures are documented and ensure omitted entries are completed and corrected where appropriate.
Professionalism and Confidentiality
* Personal business will not be conducted in patient care areas. Personal business includes but is not limited to cell phone use, homework, computer use for non- work-related business, etc.
* Maintain patient confidentiality.
* Maintain confidentiality around performance and personnel issues that arise for staff.

* Before initiating hemodialysis, the patient will be identified using two patient identifiers, name and birthdate, picture if available.
* Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
* Evaluate and assess vascular access for patency and abnormal signs/symptoms.
* Cannulate access according to unit policy.
* Responsible for calculating and entry of orders into the dialysis machine.
* Responsible for assuring appropriate safety alarms are enabled.
* Obtain ordered laboratory testing as ordered.
* Prepare lab requisitions for prescribed or stat laboratory specimens according to the laboratory destination.
* Collect, label, appropriately prepare and store lab specimens according to required laboratory specifications.
* Initiate hemodialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD).
* Responsible for accurate documentation in the electronic health record including vital signs, information related to initiation, patient treatment, and termination of treatment and progress notes (if applicable). Documentation to include any intervention for unusual patient status and patients' response to the intervention.
* Evaluate for intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed by RN.
* Monitor patient throughout hemodialysis treatment, including patients' response to dialysis, vascular access site and pressures, and visibility of patients' face and access.
* Obtain vital signs and perform all relevant functions necessary prior to terminating treatment.
* Discontinue dialysis treatment according to approved policies/procedures.
* Evaluate patient post hemodialysis.
* Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings for needles or catheter.
* Evaluate patient prior to discharge.
* Perform and document pre and post dialysis evaluation including weight and vital signs.
* Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
Patient Education
* Assist other health care members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures where appropriate including disease process, access, online clearance monitoring, adequacy monitoring program and urea kinetic modeling.
Technical Duties
* Maintain environmental integrity by assuring all areas are safe and clean.
* Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, back ledge and surrounding area between treatments according to unit policy.
* Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for the dialysis treatment and document appropriately.
* Perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing.
* Ensure all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to unit policy.
* Prepare, organize and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
Documentation
* Complete and document ongoing participation in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
* Documents all treatment information accurately in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
* Review treatment sheets for completeness, ensure nursing signatures are documented and ensure omitted entries are completed and corrected where appropriate.
Professionalism and Confidentiality
* Personal business will not be conducted in patient care areas. Personal business includes but is not limited to cell phone use, homework, computer use for non- work-related business, etc.

The Cross-Sectional Radiology Patient Care Tech is an integral asset of pre/intra/post procedural care of CSIR patients. Responsibilities*
Essential:
* Requisition Management: Obtain procedure requisitions, extract all pertinent information, and present it to the Physician Assistant (PA) or physician for review.
* Patient Information Review: Check MiChart for patient lab data, medical history, medications (including blood thinners), and allergies. Relay abnormal results to the PA or physician.
* Appointment Scheduling: Schedule radiology procedure appointments in MiChart and Outlook, including entering information for specimens to be sent.
* Imaging Check: Monitor MiChart for pertinent imaging on patients (e.g., IR, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds) and print relevant reports.
* Anesthesia Coordination: Schedule cases requiring general anesthesia when necessary
* Inpatient Support: For inpatients, coordinate transportation, manage blood thinners, and obtain consent with the floor nurse or SWAT team.
* Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for procedures, including assisting them into the room and completing pre-procedure patient information forms (consent, billing, and discharge instructions).
* Lab Review: Recheck updated lab results before bringing the patient into the procedure room.
* Room Set-Up: Set up the room and procedure trays as directed.
* Specimen Handling: Assist with specimen preparation for Pathology and maintain inventory on the procedure cart daily.
* Procedure Assistance: Assist medical personnel during procedures and log all necessary information on control sheets.
* Ultrasound Support: Load images for volume navigation into ultrasound machines for procedural scanning.
* Post-Procedure Clean-Up: Ensure proper post-procedure clean-up. Complete exam and bill for all billable supplies & procedures.
* Biohazard Handling: Manage biohazard specimens following compliance procedures and transport specimens to the appropriate department for testing.
* Billing: Complete the examination and billing for all billable supplies and procedures.
* Supply Management: Maintain stock in all procedure rooms and order supplies as needed.
* Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily maintenance checks of the resuscitation board and oxygen supplies.
* Certification Compliance: Maintain University of Michigan (U of M) mandatory requirements and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
* Patient Triage: Triage patient calls as needed
Required Qualifications*
* High school diploma
* BLS certification
* Basic anatomy knowledge
* Strong organizational and multitasking skills

Urinary Catheters
* Performs intermittent sterile urinary catheterizations.
* Performs clean urinary catheterizations (Pediatrics only-waiting for data).
* Connects, drains and disconnects urinary catheters.
* Assembles intermittent bladder irrigation supplies.
* Discontinues urinary catheters.
* Applies condom catheter.
* Determines bladder status with Bladder Scanner.
Enemas/Suppositories
* Administers cleansing enemas that do not contain medication.
* Applies external Fecal Incontinence Device bags.
Wound Care
* Cleanses and redresses non-sterile wounds.
* Performs simple sterile dressing changes, as in central line dressings.
* Assists RN with complex dressing changes.
* Cares for permanent drainage sites and apply appropriate collection device, i.e., ostomy, G-tube,etc.

* Coaches/prompts patient to use incentive spirometer, and in coughing and deep breathing.

* Performs post-mortem care and transports deceased patients to the morgue/pathology.

Required Qualifications*
* High school diploma, GED or equivalent, ability to read and write.

* Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medical Assistant program
* Basic computer skills
