We are seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician who will performs a variety of semi-skilled construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC modification and repair activities. This position is responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and repair of college equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Electrical- Knowledge of up to 480 electrical, troubleshoots and repairs of (120/208/277) systems.
Plumbing-Troubleshoots and repairs basic plumbing problems, solders copper pipe, repairs pvc, black iron and galvanized pipe, installs plumbing fixtures, knowledge of brazing.
Carpentry- Troubleshoots and repairs minor furniture, flooring, doors and hardware.
HVAC-Troubleshoots and repairs basic problems.
Performs general painting activities including patching, tapping and painting of drywall.
Assists in snow removal and the training of Tech Assistance.
Performs preventative maintenance of electrical, plumbing, HVAC equipment.
Performs inventory and requisition parts as required.
Tracks repairs and maintenance.
Performs set-up of equipment for maintenance.
Operation of campus vehicles as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must be able to troubleshoot, repair, replace, and install mechanical equipment from schematics/blueprints, and three-phase motors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years' experience in HVAC preferred.
Strong electrical background preferred, including electrical pneumatic and computer controls.

Fleet & Equipment Operations:
Operate, inspect, and assess the performance of various vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to:
Vehicles: SUVs, EUVs, trucks, vans, passenger vehicles, and trailers
Utility Vehicles: Golf carts (electric and gas), RTVs, and UTVs
Heavy Equipment & Machinery: Aerial man lifts, scissor lifts, skid steers, backhoes, front loaders, tractors, and forklifts
Small Engine & Landscaping Equipment: Chainsaws, hedge trimmers, trimmers, mowers, power brooms, blowers, chippers, cultivators/tillers
Other Powered Equipment: Generators, pressure washers, compressors, sewer jetters and portable welders
Conduct test drives, equipment assessments, and performance evaluations following maintenance or repairs.
Transport vehicles and equipment for service or contracted repair as needed.
Shop & Safety Compliance:
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Adhere to OSHA safety guidelines and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Ensure tools, machinery, and equipment are maintained in a safe working condition.
Follow all Saint Louis Zoo policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.
Communicate effectively with the Fleet Manager and other Zoo staff regarding repair needs, maintenance schedules, and fleet availability.
Serve as a point of contact for fleet-related issues in the absence of the Fleet Manager.
Maintain a working knowledge of evolving automotive industry standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or trade certification in automotive technology preferred. 3 years minimum as a technician.
Proven experience as an automotive mechanic with expertise in vehicle diagnostics, mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. Electric/Hybrid knowledge is a plus.
Computer proficiency within the Microsoft suite.
Ability to obtain an OSHA 10/30-Hour Training certification.
