Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Planner / Designer to join DLR Group's Justice + Civic national practice. In this role, you will lead the planning and design of facilities that promote healing, equity, and transformation through behavioral health-focused design solutions. DLR Group operates within a hybrid work model, supporting flexibility between office time and work from home. DLR Group has a network of 30+ studios across the United States. What You Will Do:
Collaboratively work with integrated teams of architects, engineers and specialty consultants
Lead preliminary planning and design for behavioral health facilities within community, justice and civic environments
Create functional layouts integrating therapeutic design principles, de-escalation strategies, and security requirements
Develop evidence-based design solutions to support mentalhealth treatment, recovery and reintegration
Design adult crisis, sobering, substance use and residential treatment centers
Ensure designs promote client and staff safety while maintaining a therapeutic environment
Apply sustainable design practices and WELL building standards to behavioral health spaces
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate specialized security and safety features
Integrate trauma informed design strategies
Design spaces that balance clinical requirements with trauma-informed care principles
Conduct facility assessments and develop programming recommendations
Create detailed space planning documentation and design guidelines
Lead stakeholder engagement sessions and facilitate design workshops
Provide technical expertise on behavioral health design standards and best practices
Support cost estimation and phasing strategies for behavioral health implementations
Develop post-occupancy evaluation criteria for behavioral health spaces
Mentor team members on behavioral health design principles
Contribute to research initiatives and thought leadership in justice behavioral health design
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in architecture, planning, psychology, behavioral science, or related field
5+ years of experience in behavioral health facility planning or related healthcare design
Strong understanding of mentalhealth treatment modalities and substance use programs
Knowledgeable of Behavioral Health funding initiatives at state and local levels
Knowledge of trauma-informed design principles and evidence-based practice
Understanding of clinical workflows and operational requirements
Understanding of telehealth and technology supported treatment systems
Knowledge of behavioral healthcare design standards and building regulations
Experience with public sector projects and stakeholder engagement
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in psychology, behavioral science, architecture, planning, or related field
Professional certification in healthcare planning or behavioral health
Experience in behavioral health facility planning,
AICP or other relevant certification
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite
Background in therapeutic environment design or clinical operations
Familiarity with Behavior Health system operations and procedures
Experience with secure facility design and planning
Knowledge of correctional healthcare standards and guidelines
Understanding of behavioral health economics and facility operations
Research experience in behavioral health environments
Publication history in relevant professional journals
Experience with grant writing and funding applications
Crisis prevention intervention (CPI) certification
MentalHealth First Aid certification

Duties:
* Provide direct and indirect patient care.
* Perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive Health Aid tasks in assisting physicians and other professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program for alcohol and/or drug-dependent patients.
* Orienting patients to the treatment program.
* Observing patients for symptoms, behavior, actions, reactions, indications, and contraindications to treatment.
* Assisting in individual or group therapy sessions or in behavior therapy sessions,
* Providing supportive assistance to patients placed on maintenance therapy.
* Perform rounding of patients every two hours.
* Assisting with patient intake and discharge processes.
* Closely monitoring patients' behavior and whereabouts to maintain a safe environment.
* Escort patients throughout the facility and ensuring structure, supervision, and therapeutic engagement throughout the recovery process.
* Promote a harmonious and cooperative working environment in their interaction with co-workers and supervisors.
* Follow all North Texas Health Care System guidelines and VA policies.
* Contact Medical Staff in handling patients in cases of fainting, convulsions, and illness.

Qualifications:
* Must have an active BLS/ACLS/AHA certification.
* Required to have a High School Diploma.
* Must have two years of study from an accredited college or university, junior college, or similar institution and have completed at least 12 semesters in such courses as health sciences, nursing, behavioral science, social science, guidance, counseling, teaching, biological sciences or related fields.
* Must have a minimum of one-year experience in direct patient care performing therapeutic and supportive tasks in assisting Physicians and other personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program setting. Must include three (3) references (name, address, capacity, telephone) including the current or last supervisor.
* Must have the knowledge and ability to use computers and technology efficiently.

The MentalHealth Counselor will provide evidence based therapeutic interventions and services to children and their families which will enable them to deal with a range of behavioral and emotional problems identified. Experience/Skills Required:
Master's in social work or related human services field.
Fully licensed as an LMSW; or

Coordinate the implementation of individualized mentalhealth and substance abuse treatment plans
Provide ongoing evaluation, assessment, and counseling to youth and their families under supervision of a licensed mentalhealthprofessional

Document treatment progress through weekly notes, treatment plans, reviews, and aftercare plans

Required Qualifications

Services must be coordinated with staff in other program content areas and include ongoing assessment of the quality of services provided. Primary Responsibilities
Conduct classroom observations as assigned and provide feedback to classroom staff to promote positive social emotional skill development.
Provide consultation, guidance and model developmentally appropriate activities for children and effective ways to work with and support young children within the classroom.
Provide guidance to staff on selecting, implementing, and interpreting social emotional assessment tools and findings.
Conduct observations of individual children as assigned or referred for consultation, meet with teaching staff and family to determine needs and develop treatment plans as appropriate.
Develop and implement treatment plans based on needs of individual children and families.
Support family and teachers in the implementation of treatment plans to include progress monitoring and provide any additional referrals as needed.

Current licensure in the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate or having passed the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors Exam. Must provide their own Professional Liability Insurance for Counselors.
Additional annual certification and training in the following are required: Health Certificate annually; First Aid Certification and Adult and Infant / Toddler CPR Certification. Must attend 24 clock hours of professional development and staff training per year to include training on methods to handle suspected or known child abuse and neglect cases, that comply with applicable federal, state, local and tribal laws, training that builds their knowledge, experience and competencies to improve child and family outcomes and any other trainings as outlined by the Head Start Performance Standards and Minimum Standards from the State of Texas.
