Job Summary: The Staff Medical Device Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), On-the-Job Training (OJT) documents, and line templates. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, optimizing manufacturing processes, and collaborating with vendors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmaceutical engineering, process improvements, and experience with Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs). We are essentially looking for a device-centric autoinjector subject matter expert. Key Responsibilities: Documentation and Compliance: Ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to relevant personnel. Compile and create documentation in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements. Manage all post-submission Design History File (DHF) updates in collaboration with Development device teams Support the creation and maintenance of product Design Master Records (DMRs) post-submission Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety in manufacturing operations. Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to address any issues identified during FATs/SATs. Document and report test results, ensuring all acceptance criteria are met. Vendor Management: Work closely with vendors to ensure timely projects and training for equipment. Detailed design review for the assembly and manufacture of a product Customers: Support product feasibility assessments. Coordinate all transfer activities from development to operational QC for device testing Manage qualification and validation activities associated with exhibit, submission and commercial launch batch manufacturing Conduct feasibility assessments and determine the manufacturing strategy for device projects with the Steriles technologies Qualifications: Graduate level degree (Master's) in Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or similar field highly preferred. 8+ years of operations experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role primarily involves working on the shop floor, interacting with various functions, and dedicating a portion of time to office-related tasks. The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in collaborating with the Maintenance team to manage documentation, designs, and maintenance schedules. The position requires determining spare part needs, obtaining quotes, and maintaining a file for each machine. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate with suppliers to obtain training videos, documentation, and create step-by-step manuals for failure modes. Responsibilities + Work with vendors to install automated cells and torque robots on the production line. + Collaborate with engineering managers and vendors on 5-6 automated stations. + Implement changes on the shop floor to optimize process flow and layout. + Conduct time and motion studies, develop standardized work, estimate manpower, and standardize data. + Apply lean manufacturing principles to enhance process efficiency, process flow, and plant layout. + Resolve open issues and collaborate with OEMs to follow through on PPAP approval. + Provide engineering support for material flow process documents, standards, and procedures, including training and integration considerations. + Coordinate installation activities such as delivery, rigging/mechanical setup, utilities, commissioning, and runoff qualification. + Develop and update process flow charts, PFMEA, safety documents, and control plans. + Support manufacturing process planning, creation of standardized production procedures, and documentation such as work instructions and revision drawings. + Design safety systems and efficient system layout management for manufacturing environments. + Conduct detailed design reviews and approvals, including tooling. Essential Skills + Strong knowledge of production equipment. + Experience with automated work station and torque robot installation. + Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles. + Skills in process improvement and automation installation. + Competence in process engineering, plant layout, and process flow. This is an entry level position. Under the general supervision of the Product Development/Application Manager, and guidance of experienced Engineers perform a variety of functions in the development and/or improvement of energy products. Perform feasibility studies to determine the technical difficulty, approximate product cost, compatibility of processes to produce the products, and the overall functionality of the product as produced. Prepare trial plans, test plans, and reports associated with product development activities. Perform comparisons of developed products to products offered by the competition as relates to function, cost, and overall quality. Review customer specifications, prepare reports, summaries and analyses; and handle other specific tasks as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with energy product development projects, independently handle less complex portions of projects, or complete tasks as assigned. Perform various duties, including engineering studies and investigations. Work closely with Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineers, Production Supervision, vendors, Maintenance and others in developing trial plans and testing programs for product development. Continuously seek out areas for cost reduction related to cable design including alternative materials, economies of design, reduction of manufacturing complexity which will decrease scrap, and design to take full advantage of cable specifications. Perform feasibility studies involving cost analyses and consideration of alternatives to determine economic advantage of proposed product improvements. Assist in the selection of equipment, machines or tooling, assist in selection of materials, and determine approximate costs that will allow decisions to be made concerning products to be developed. Assist in preparation of capital expenditure appropriation requests working closely with manufacturing engineering and various members of management as required. Work closely with Product Design Engineering in planning production methods for new and revised products. Make recommendations regarding product design from the standpoint of product function and adherence to standards. As necessary, assist supervisors and operators during the course of production as well as with conducting trial runs. In the course of specific projects, exercise partial supervision over machine operations. Prepare operating and process specifications, and other documentation for product development trials and product testing required. Maintain various records related to trials and testing. Publish schedules, project summaries, budgets, test reports, third party testing requirements, and product development reports for product development activities. This requires working knowledge of the requirements for the Product Life Cycle Model utilized by LS cable. Provide updates to products assigned at weekly meetings and as required by management. Work with vendors in investigating improved methods and equipment for new products and the improvement of existing products. Review customer specifications and provide reports to check with plant capability and to recommend possible developments to fulfill customer requirements.
