* Work as a team and utilizes expertise as a dental assistant in assisting the dentist in all clinical procedures. Effectively prepare operatory with materials and instruments for dental procedure.

* Maintain patient's records
* In a courteous and accurate manner inform public of clinic procedures, CHD services and refer to other agencies as needed.
* Travel to all clinics as requested.
* Complies with security procedure guidelines.
* Adheres to uniformity of dental procedures countywide as approved by Dental Service Manager
* Instruct patient/parents (guardian) in oral hygiene utilizing appropriate aid

Qualifications:
Minimum -

* Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish highly desired.
* Competent computer skills

The OPS Dental Assistant position is expected to work 32-40 hours per week.
* Must be able to pass instruments to dentist during procedures, as well as take and process dental X-rays

Under the supervision of the Supervising Dental Assistant, Correctional Facility, and the clinical direction of a Dentist, Correctional Facility, incumbents shall assist the Dentist in dental procedures and related dental office work; make appointments for patients; prepare and arrange dental instruments, equipment, and accessories; sterilize and care for dental instruments; keep a sufficient amount of dental supplies available; keep dental records of patients; assist dentist at the chair; keep the dental office and equipment neat, clean, and sanitary; take and develop dental x-rays; perform dental laboratory functions; instruct patients in proper practices of preventive dental care; maintain order and supervise the conduct of persons committed to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; prevent escapes and injury by these persons to themselves, others, or to property; maintain security of working areas and work materials; inspect premises and search inmates or youthful offenders for contraband, such as weapons or illegal drugs; and perform other related work.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience as a dental assistant. (Training in a school for dental assistants may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of three months of training being equal to six months of experience.)
