StoryCorps company history timeline

2003

StoryCorps was started in Grand Central Terminal in 2003.

Since 2003, we’ve created the largest collection of human voices ever gathered.

StoryCorps is a non-profit group that began in 2003 for the purpose of preserving voice recordings between everyday Americans.

2006

Kathrina Proscia began working at StoryCorps in 2006.

2013

In January 2013, StoryCorps at the Atlanta History Center opened in the Franklin Miller Garrett Studio, making the Atlanta History Center the second museum in the country to host this nation-wide initiative.

2017

The Justice Project was produced in 2017 that focused on prisoners.

2018

Lisa Kennedy joined StoryCorps in 2018.

One Small Step is a 2018 venture to cross political boundaries.

2019

Lisa Stein joined StoryCorps in September 2019.

2020

Developed in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, StoryCorps Connect is a first-of-its kind platform that enables you to record a StoryCorps interview with a loved one remotely using video conference technology.

StoryCorps leadership includes board chair Gara LaMarche, who was also the president of the left-of-center funding collective Democracy Alliance until late 2020.
