Highlights Department: Urgent Care Middletown Hours: 38.00 per week Shift: Shift 1 The Radiology Coordinator supervises, coordinates and oversees the daily operations, workflow, customer service and quality control of imaging services within the Urgent Care modality. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provides patient care essential to imaging procedures. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures and in accordance with the health system policies, protocols and standards. Function as a Medical Assistant to room patients; obtain vitals, reconcile medications, and interview patients to identify chief complaints. Provides a high level of expertise to mentor staff/students and problem solving. Perform regular QC checks and coordinate machine maintenance as needed. Perform regular QA checks for each technician. Provide coaching and additional training when necessary. Address and record any errors or incidents with technicians. Acts as liaison between the Radiology Department and Urgent Care clinics to ensure up to date practice for all techs. Using initiative, good judgment and technical expertise to perform a wide-range of imaging procedures. Acts as a positive role model/mentor for staff and students in demonstrating good behaviors, interpersonal relations and promotes a high degree of morale. Applies the principles of teamwork in all aspects of providing patient services. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of a JRCERT accredited Radiography program. ARRT Certification/Eligible in good standing State of Connecticut License/Eligible High School Diploma or GED equivalent Preferred Qualifications Three to five years experience as Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT, RDMS, NMTCB etc) required. One to three years leadership experience including coaching and counseling staff, and developing staff schedules. Bachelor degree or equivalent experience preferred. Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and competency in two or more imaging modalities. Demonstrated good communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to interact positively with all levels of health care workers and guests required. Demonstrated good organizational skills with the ability to handle several tasks/projects simultaneously required. Demonstrated good judgment and problem solving skills with the ability to function independently and make decisions required. Coordinates/oversees a designated group of patients being treated by assigned Physical Therapy Assistants (PTA) and any related clinical supervision of such PTAs and provides appropriate therapy evaluations, treatments and modalities in accordance with established VNS health policies and procedures. Works under general supervision. • Establishes patient plan of care (POC) including treatment interventions, appropriate treatment outcomes and frequency and duration of treatment in collaboration with the physician. Coordinates patient POC and collaborates with other health care team members, patient and family/caregiver for optimal patient benefit. • Assesses, evaluates and identifies patient rehabilitation needs and potential using accepted practice standards. • Assesses/makes determination for direct physical therapy services to be provided by a PTA in accordance with VNSNY protocol. Supervises assigned PTA's, making co-visits and overseeing their schedules, caseloads, clinical skills and patient care delivery to ensure compliance with state, federal and VNS Health policy. • Establishes a discharge plan as part of the patient care continuum. • Provides care in accordance with established POC, including patient and family/caregiver teaching. • Evaluates the need for equipment orders and instructs in use of equipment as is appropriate for patient function and safety. Follows up to ensure resolution of problems/issues and adheres to VNS Health policies/procedures on equipment problems. • Assesses patient status and effectiveness of treatment interventions; modifies goals and Rehab POC as appropriate. • Identifies any changes in clinical and psychological status of patient and reports findings to appropriate members of the health care team to ensure quality care of VNS Health patients. • Refers assigned patients to other VNS Health services, as appropriate. • Initiates and maintains timely communications with the health care team to ensure coordinated quality patient care. Documents all evaluation findings, treatments and patient responses and communications regarding patient care within the timeframe established by VNSNY protocol. • Inputs/enters patient clinical information into appropriate Agency systems (i.e., pen-based, cyber, etc.) to ensure coordinated documentation and patient care. • Acts as coordinator of care when indicated according to VNS Health policy and procedures. • Participates in Rehabilitation Department and Agency meetings, in-service programs, Quality Assurance reviews, and interdisciplinary team meetings as requested. Participates in performance improvement via participation in co-visits and conferences with Rehabilitation Department supervisors. Collaborates as required in assigned service delivery team events. • Contributes to cost-effectiveness of services and programs of the Agency by maintaining knowledge of third-party payer regulations, and adhering to them. • Keeps abreast of the field of physical therapy, assumes responsibility for professional growth and maintains high level of clinical knowledge and skills. Department/Position Overview: Sentara Leigh Hospital Intensive Care Unit, AACN Gold Beacon Award recipient, is comprised of 20 licensed critical care beds and has an average daily census of 18 patients. Staffing ratios vary and can be 1:1 to 1:3 with 1:2 being the usual assignment. The ICU RN's are required to have a wide array of knowledge, skill and ability to competently and safely provide critical care to our patients. Frequent ongoing education, new skill acquisition and skill validation are provided and supported by an experienced ICU CNS for new and experienced ICU nurses. Newly hired RN's will have between 2-14 weeks of orientation depending on prior experience. Our preceptors are purposely selected for their teaching ability and formally trained to meet the training needs of new staff. Specific attention is provided for new graduate ICU RN's as they participate in our Vizient AACN Nurse Residency Program and AACN's essentials of Critical Care Orientation online education. Experienced RN's are encouraged and supported with educational and financial assistance to achieve critical care certification. ICU staff are supported by an interdisciplinary care team which in part includes unit based respiratory, physical, speech and occupational therapists. Interpreter, nutrition, palliative, chaplaincy and ethical services are readily available as well. Our ICU has onsite and eICU pulmonary critical care intensivists and their team of physician extenders 24/7. Physician lead, nurse driven interdisciplinary rounds are held daily for continuity of care and to address nursing's concerns or questions.
