The Role We Want You For In this role, you will manage the organization and direction of project construction activities and oversee total site management including supervision of client contractors, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, and finance and accounting. Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and clients are satisfied. This key project leader for Clayco's Field Operations team will oversee construction of 100MM - 500MM or more and will be assigned to the as the Construction Manager/Superintendent on Mission Critical projects. The Specifics of the Role Responsible for the organization and direction of all on-site construction related activities and the primary contact for all project field activities. Ensure construction operations are in compliance with design, specifications, and that construction operations are completed on schedule, within budget and to quality standards. Responsible for site management including management of construction subcontractors, professional staff to include field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance and accounting services, and workforce services. Responsible for managing and maintaining detailed daily reports. Ensures the development and execution of project automation plan, environmental compliance plan, safety plan, site survey plan, non-manual staffing plan, subcontracting plan, labor strategy, construction execution plan, and job-site work rules. Responsible for implementation of Clayco's safety program, security, housekeeping, and fire protection on the construction site and ensures strict adherence Federal and State safety codes. Ensures the field organization is composed of qualified and knowledgeable personnel and ensures effective personnel utilization. Establishes and implements construction schedules, methods, manning charts, material, and equipment requirements. Responsible for field project performance and analyzes performances for adherence to quality standards and schedules. Plans and establishes procedures to ensure all construction operations meet engineering designs and specifications. Ensures Clayco's policies and procedures are fully implemented. Establishes project field procedures to be worked in conjunction with the Clayco's standards, as necessitated by project conditions. Collaborates with the jobsite team to ensure labor harmony throughout the project. Partners with the project management team to maintain effective client relationship and is the primary contact for client's communication with the field activities. Maintains effective relationships with other functional departments. Develops, implements, and administers a job-site security plan and coordinates the activities with Clayco's security department. Works with the project management team to participate in all job-site's contractual activities. Participates in contracts and subcontracts negotiations. Participates in the development and implementation of a training program to ensure subordinate personnel receives progressive training to enable them to assume additional responsibilities and is responsible for overall development of construction training and any testing as required. Works with Clayco's safety team in the development of the project safety program and ensures strict adherence to Company, federal, state, and local safety regulations. Ensures the implementation of an effective community relations plan for the site. Ensures required permits and licenses are in place prior to the start of the affected work at site. Responsible and accountable for construction license reporting to include construction Logbook entries and required notifications for permit closure. Partners with the project management team for the implementation of cost savings methodologies in the Construction organization and the promotion of other continuous improvement processes. Ensures development and execution of strategies and plans for project automation, environmental compliance, safety, site surveying, non-manual staffing, contracting, labor strategy, construction execution, and job-site work rules. Plans and establishes procedures to ensure construction operations meet engineering designs and specifications. Coordinate with the Field Operations Manager for all assignment of Superintendent and Foreman positions. Support Superintendent(s) throughout the duration of the job. Review project schedules with Superintendents/Foreman. Document project field issues that impact budget, quality, or schedule, and provide to the project management team. Ensure subcontractor requests for field issues that impact budget, quality, or schedule are documented and are forwarded to the project management team. Follow guidelines of the Project Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program written for the jobsite. Requirements Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related technical degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education. 20-25 years of relevant experience, with progressive responsibility and technical knowledge both scope and value of project. Technical knowledge and experience of relevant construction methods and systems including: Utility relocates and slope stability works. Full understanding of multiple mission critical platforms. Full understanding and working knowledge of high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage systems. General understanding of BMS and EPMS Systems. Full understanding and coordination of Utility relocations, underground medium voltage systems, and BIM modeling coordination of ALL utilities both above and below ground. Full understanding and managing of all LOTO procedure's and FOD inspections for all systems. Ability to research and understand local codes and jurisdictional requirements for the project. Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements. Experience with successful interface management on Data Center/Mission Critical projects. OSHA 30 required. Ability to walk the job site, climb ladders, and multi floor scaffolding. Ability to lift objects at least 50lbs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Jobsite Administration Site Logistics Creation and maintenance of the project's site logistics plan. Housekeeping Ensure cleanliness of the project site. Work with trade partners to ensure that they are cleaning up after themselves to ensure the job site remains in a constant state of cleanliness. The Superintendent's participating in this process will vary depending on the project team size, and these responsibilities should be identified and discussed amongst project team members at the onset of the project. Keep track of as-built changes in project records to corroborate that all changes are being tracked in the subcontractors as-built drawings Management of Project Personnel There may be times when the lead superintendent is running a job with assistant superintendents, and/or other superintendents that are designated to assist. Submittals Ensure that submittals are readily accessible by all project stakeholders, and that submittals are disseminated to the appropriate trades to ensure multi-disciplinary coordination. Review submittals to assist the project team with upcoming project coordination. RFIs Ensure that all RFI's are properly posted in the contract documents so that all project stakeholders can identify the question/answer when reviewing contract documents. General Ensure that Procore is maintained with all current information. Prevent mistakes from being translated into the field due to inaccurate or outdated information being accessible and not understood. Business Development As a Junior Superintendent you interact, often in person, with many people daily. This includes clients, designers, testing labs, trade partners, etc. It is important to establish relationships with these people, as those relationships can be a differentiator in your and Butler-Cohen's ability to land the next project. Be inquisitive when interacting with people, and as you learn about potential new work, feed those leads to the Business Development department so that the BD department can track and work towards landing the next projects. Education/Experience Required 1 to 3+ years of construction-related experience OR A BA/BS in a construction-related field plus 1+ year of field experience Experience supporting at least one construction project of $5-10 million or more in value Familiarity with QA/QC inspection processes Preferred experience in ground-up construction or major renovations Skills/Abilities Required Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends Willingness to travel or relocate based on project needs Comfort working in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind) Physical ability to navigate job sites (stairs, ladders, scaffolding, etc.) Able to lift, carry, or move materials up to 50 lbs Strong verbal and written communication skills Reliable and self-motivated, with a problem-solving mindset Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction project management platforms (Procore preferred) Familiarity with construction documents including plans, specs, submittals, and shop drawings General knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural systems Awareness of OSHA regulations and general site safety practices Physical Demands and Working Conditions This role is performed in a hybrid indoor/outdoor setting on an active commercial construction site and requires a high level of physical mobility and situational awareness. Physical Demands: Must be able to walk the site multiple times per day, including uneven surfaces such as sand, gravel, or compacted dirt. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to access all areas of the jobsite, including roofs, mezzanines, and spaces above ceilings. Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, and standing for extended periods are required to check framing layouts, concrete forms, and detailed fieldwork. Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to work on their feet for most of the workday without the need for extended rest periods. Must be able to visually inspect small details and work elements at close range and at a distance.
