Job Description Synectics for Management Decisions (SMDI) is seeking an AWS Engineer to join their growing team. The qualified applicant will become part of the Datawarehouse and Business Intelligence services (DWBI) project for a large federal agency in Alexandria, VA. AWS Engineer is responsible for development and support of cloud-based solutions. Solutions include moving assets from on-premise to cloud environment, evaluation and optimization. AWS Engineer will collaborate and work as a team to ensure the success of the team. Responsibilities/Duties Advise engineering and software engineering team as they migrate from on-premise to cloud infrastructure Optimize cloud workloads for cost, scalability, availability, governance, compliance, etc. Guide and/or provide hands-on support to administer production, staging, and deployment environments Partner with multi-disciplinary teams to teams to understand requirements and plan architecture and solutions Apply insight and expertise across AWS services Apply knowledge of scripting and automation using tools like PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl, etc. Qualifications Good working knowledge of AWS Services including Compute, Storage Networking, Database, Management tools, Security, Identity and Compliance Experience implementing and debugging workloads in AWS Experience building infrastructure inside of AWS via code. Familiarity with tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation is a plus. Ability to actively communicate, interact and solve critical customer problems. About the Team Workday's Public Cloud Infrastructure Team is a diverse group of software developers, cloud engineers & site reliability engineers (SREs) who work together to ensure our cloud infrastructure is secure, scalable, and highly available. We focus on enabling Workday's growth in the public cloud by crafting, deploying and maintaining fully automated, resilient and scalable infrastructure-as-a-service. About the Role This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government which, due to federal government security requirements, mandates that all Workday personnel working on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native). As a Platform Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in guiding Workday's cloud adoption strategy and leading the technical aspects of our transition to the Public Cloud. In this critical technical leadership position, you will have the opportunity to shape and implement cloud best practices, develop innovative solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful migration of our applications and infrastructure to the chosen cloud platform. You will use Infrastructure-as-code and automation to make continuous improvements to how the team maintains the infrastructure and services they own. Be Responsible For: Managing and operating infrastructure services in a scalable and secure manner. Own tooling and operations involved in the buildout of new Customer environments Collaborate with architects and leadership in evolving infrastructure services to meet the growing needs of the business. Have Ownership of: Service health and uptime of infrastructure services. Patching a regular maintenance of infrastructure services. ENV build automation, tooling and workflow execution. Vulnerability management, holding teams accountable to meet customer facing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) About You Basic Qualifications: 6+ years of hands-on experience with one or more public cloud providers: AWS or, GCP 6+ years experience with Linux operating systems 2+ years of experience in one of the following functional languages: Ruby, Go, or Python 2+ years experience delivering Infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or Ansible. This role may require a security clearance at the TS/SCI w/CI Poly level. Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance. An active TS/SCI w/CI Poly is preferred. Other Qualifications Expertise with building solutions in the Public Cloud (AWS or GCP) to meet scalability and reliability needs of web-scale applications. Experience designing CI/CD pipelines (GIT, ArgoCD, etc.) pipelines for adhering to Infrastructure-as-code best practices Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. Expertise in containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture. Skilled in designing and implementing automation strategies using various tools, helping organizations by improving operational efficiency, reducing errors, and enabling a focus on strategic tasks. Adept at improving product durability, minimizing system failures, and enhancing process efficiency to contribute to cost savings and customer satisfaction. Proficient in using programming languages to design, write, test, and debug code, with understanding of syntax, semantics, and programming paradigms. Capable of fostering a positive and inclusive team environment to improve team efficiency and facilitate effective decision-making. Adept at identifying the root cause of problems and implementing effective solutions, thereby improving system efficiency, reducing downtime, and enhancing overall operational productivity.
