Lake Shore Hospital Inc company history timeline
In 1973 the Sanatorium transitioned to Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital.
Thus on October 31, 1976 the board had decided to change the hospital name to “Lakeshore Mental Health Institute.”
In 1984 the decision was made to put those community-based sport, fitness and recreation programs under a new entity called Lakeshore Foundation.
In 1996, the not for profit Lakeshore Park Conservancy was founded and a public-private partnership with the City of Knoxville was formed, signaling a new chapter and furthering the transformation of the campus.
Working in concert with the City, the Conservancy continued the preservation and transformation of the Park. It was 2013 when the Lakeshore Mental Health Institute closed its doors after 127 years of extraordinary service.
