This position is primarily responsible for the management of the tax department personnel and the organization's compliance with all tax-related reporting requirements of federal and state jurisdictions. The Tax Manager interacts internally with all levels of the organization and externally with the company's public accounting firm, federal and state tax authorities as well as tax-related third party service providers. The Tax Manager is expected to: Manage the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual federal income tax and non-federal tax provisions for financial statements. Prepare and file federal and state income tax returns and estimates for consolidated group. Determine taxability and treatment of items related to new subsidiaries, LLCs, etc. Calculate and record tax return true-ups and provide explanations as needed. Prepare annual federal income tax and non-federal tax forecasts for BML and its subsidiaries. Coordinate communications with all tax authorities as required. Responsible for the premium tax return processes, including maintaining detail of Guaranty Fund Assessments. Will prepare premium tax returns using TriTech and Optins software. Coordinate and review all municipal tax filings of the company. Reconcile Guaranty Fund Assessment account and Premium Tax Receivable account on a quarterly basis. Reconcile State Tax Withholding accounts for Third Party Sick pay on a monthly basis. Serve as Third Party Benefits subject matter expert. Includes quarterly and annual filings and responding to notices and inquiries from taxing authorities and other departments at the company. Prepare and e-file information returns to Hacienda Department of Revenue. Serve as company contact for Puerto Rico tax issues. Oversee and manage the company's reporting requirements for informational returns that include Forms 1099-R, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC (income for convention attendees, policy exchanges, surrenders, etc.) as well all reporting requirements for Puerto Rico. Coordinate with IT and other departments in assembling the data required for 1099 reporting and the filing thereof. Lead all communication efforts with the company's third party service provider (SOVOS). Responsible for quarterly reporting on tax exhibts and quarterly tax estimates Responsible for tax budget provision and tax budget exhibits Perform tax research when appropriate and act as the tax expert for internal stakeholders. Lead tax software implementation Perform other related duties as assigned JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance required. We are currently seeking an Experienced Tax Associate to join our firm based out of our Boston, Providence, or Newport, RI offices. In this role you will utilize your educational background as well as your organizational skills as you work closely with colleagues on a variety of assignments for clients of the Firm. This is not a remote position. Candidates applying for this position will be responsible for the following: Job Responsibilities Prepare a diverse array of tax returns, including those for individuals, corporations (both C-Corps and S-Corps), partnerships, trusts, estates, and other business entities, with a focus on accuracy and adherence to tax laws. Manage tax filings involving multi-state requirements, international compliance, and consolidated returns, ensuring full regulatory compliance. Assist clients with strategic tax planning by creating forecasts and tax estimates, while offering actionable insights to reduce tax exposure. Perform thorough research on federal and state tax matters to resolve client-specific challenges and interpret complex tax regulations. Deliver high-quality, timely tax services that consistently meet or exceed client expectations and internal deadlines. Maintain awareness of emerging tax legislation and industry developments, contributing to the firm's knowledge base and growth initiatives. Partner closely with senior team members on key tax engagements and support the broader team during peak periods with effective project coordination. Engage in ad hoc assignments and special projects that expand your tax knowledge and support your professional development. Job Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field Master's degree, CPA/EA license or active pursuit of higher education or credentials is highly preferred 1-3+ years prior experience in public accounting, busy season experience highly preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills Willingness to work in-person in our Boston, MA, Providence, RI or Newport, RI offices Prior experience with CCH Axcess, Sureprep, XCM and/or similar software as well as MS Office Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet stated deadlines Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced environment and exercise sound judgement and discretion when handling confidential information. This is a full-time position with standard hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours, including some evenings and weekends, will be required during peak busy seasons. Pay Range: The salary range for this position is included below.
