General Description
This classification supervises the daily operations of accounting duties, to include but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
Leads and participates in a wide variety of professional accounting duties; monitor preparation of year-end adjusting and closing entries and annual financial report; audit subsidiary journals, registers and staff entries to ensure proper account coding, monthly bank reconciliations, documentation and account balancing.
Administers, monitors, analyzes, and account for Federal, State and other grants, contracts and agreements to ensure that funds are received, payments are made, and compliance is maintained.
Performs a variety of professional accounting tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility, including creating training documents, organizing and conducting training sessions for all levels of staff Citywide. Maintains professional affiliations; and attends webinars, meetings, workshops, hearings, and training sessions as required.
Analyzes various funds, financial summaries and statements; initiate improvements or revisions in the accounting system or its procedures. Prepares a variety of complex financial statements and reports including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and make oral presentations.
Assists and interact with city departments on the interpretation and analysis of financial reports, schedules and statements. Determines trends and analysis of revenues and expenditures for various funds and departments; recommend effective courses of action, solutions, and/or alternatives.
Responsible for taking general direction from and assisting Controller as needed with the annual audit by preparing work papers, schedules and analyzing account balances.
Prepares special reports and financial analysis as requested by the Controller and Chief Financial Officer.
Collaborates with Budget Manager in maintenance of general ledger chart of accounts structure and accounting system updates.
Maintains and reconciles a variety of ledgers, reports and account records; examines and corrects accounting transactions to ensure accurate recording, balancing and classification of all revenue and expenditures to proper accounts in accordance with City procedures.
Assist auditors with financial audit of City; provide financial statements and information as necessary. Analyze various funds, financial summaries and statements; initiate improvements or revisions in the accounting system or its procedures.
Responds to a variety of inquiries from the public, various agencies, and contractors regarding accounting procedures and other fiscal matters
Additional Functions
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field required; supplemented by five (5) years of experience performing government accounting duties that includes lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

General Definition of Work
Performs difficult administrative work maintaining and analyzing various financial records, compiling reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Deputy Tax Commissioner.

Essential Functions
Performs accounting related duties in areas including but not limited to tax collection, distribution, accounts receivable, audits and other related areas.
Performs maintenance on all general ledger accounts including account analyses and reconciliation.
Assists with the preparation and posting of monthly journal entries; approves all journal entries prepared by Accounting Associates and Accounting Specialists.
Assists with yearly balancing and performing the soft close of the general ledger and the preparation of annual financial statements and reports.
Prepares supporting documentation and schedules for the annual audit of Tax Commissioner operations.
Prepares monthly and quarterly reports for financial analysis as appropriate and directed.
Prepares reports and provides information as requested by other governmental entities in Coweta County, and/or the State of Georgia
May perform work of an Accounting Associate or Accounting Specialist or other staff as necessary.
Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, methods and practices of accounting; thorough knowledge of the laws, ordinances and regulations governing financial matters; thorough knowledge of modern office methods, practices and equipment; ability to prepare and maintain complex financial reports and records; ability to analyze and evaluate complex financial systems; ability to express complex and technical ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to supervise subordinate staff; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, external agencies, associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with coursework in accounting, finance, or related field and considerable experience in bookkeeping or accounting, including experience with Quick Books or similar related software with some supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; no special vocal communication skills are required; no special hearing perception is required; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

Position Description: The Senior Accountant at Davidson Homes will oversee a variety of responsibilities within the General Ledger, Financial Accounting & Reporting, Loan Accounting, and Accounts Payable areas of the Finance Department. Key Responsibilities:
Must have a demonstrated knowledge of US GAAP, accounting procedures and controls.
Compliance with US GAAP and corporate policy:
Preparation of general ledger journal entries and reconciliations
Internal and external financial reporting
Participate in financial standards setting
Coordination of accounting matters with other departments, areas, and/or divisions.
Responsible for challenging existing procedures for efficiency and introducing improved processes or changes as necessary.
Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
Assist with annual audit preparations.
Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
Perform other accounting duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and experience requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
3+ years of accounting experience in either public accounting or with a homebuilder
Working knowledge of US GAAP.
Strong financial analysis skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong organizational project management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work well with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or closely related field supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training that includes governmental accounting and customer service; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess certification in defensive driving. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
