This is technical work in handling animal intake adoptions, and customer service through direct contact with animals of unknown origin and temperament. A key element is providing customer support in a highly emotionally charged environment. Routine veterinary procedures are performed under the supervision of trained staff to include insertion of microchip identification, vaccinations, blood draws, and similar procedures. Work requires knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures used in the care of animals, basic understanding of animal body language, the function and operation of safety equipment used in animal handling; many functions involve the use of specialized skills or specialized equipment, which are learned on the job or through specialized training. Contacts with others require skills in understanding and influencing people, which are important in responding to and resolving complaints relating to animal care issues. Skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view are often required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. Work schedule involves some weekend, holidays, and rotating shifts. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by procedures or precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work is patterned involving similar situations and generally requiring only the choice of the correct procedure. Work is performed in field, kennel, and office environments, where there are some risks and hazards due to the handling of vicious, ill, infectious, and rabid animals, and exposure to offensive odors, chemicals, and other airborne nuisances but the hazards are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Operates laboratory and standard office equipment such as personal computer, two-way radio, euthanasia equipment, animal restraint equipment and cash register. Operates a motor vehicle. The physical demands consist mainly of sitting, standing, walking, transporting animals, and lifting and controlling animals and/or objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied and, although subject to standard procedures, practices, and the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priorities subject to supervisor's approval.

What You'll Do
* Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including OASIS assessments at required intervals

The Section Supervisor for Occupational Therapy has full responsibility for administering all aspects of the occupational therapy program within the NF/SG VHS. Services may include services in the acute care, outpatient, and extended care settings at the Lake City location.
The Supervisory Occupational Therapist at the Lake City location within the North Florida/ South Georgia VA Healthcare System will be assigned to the specialty program area of hand rehabilitation which are covered by Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and provide professional, independent occupational therapy services in the assigned area. The therapist is responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge and skills for his/her specialty area.
Major duties include, but not limited to:
* Responsible for the supervision, administrative management, and direction of the occupational therapy program in a large VA health system. The incumbent may provide supervision of key clinical and training programs, including the overall technical oversight of the occupational therapists who they administratively supervise.
* Responsible for assessing, planning, and evaluating the delivery of therapy care utilizing personal experience and current research in order to maintain an integrated and comprehensive therapy program. Plans, develops, implements, and oversees any new occupational therapy ventures in concert with PM&RS leadership.
* Demonstrates knowledge of contemporary occupational therapy across multiple areas of practice, and the demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to provide clinical guidance to staff OTs within the department.
* Conducts initial and ongoing competencies following VA guidelines and if warranted prepares an educational plan for the Occupational Therapy Section or individual employees as needed. Ensures that employees' competencies are continuously developing and provides on-going feedback on employees' performance
* Demonstrates the ability to analyze clinically appropriate data effectively to optimize quality, performance, and productivity within the section.
* Demonstrates the ability to set priorities, delegate tasks, and solve problems in order to meet multiple deadlines and identify/address organizational problems.
* Provides overall clinical supervision that assures the proper coordination and delivery of care within the OT section and the facility at large. Serves as an advocate and resource consultant to the therapy staff and facility at large through communication with other departments, physicians, external agencies, and other groups regarding programs and operation of the occupational therapy section.
* Makes recommendations to the Assistant Chief and/or Chief of PM&R in regard to employee recognition, promotions, recruitment, as well as adverse actions.

Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:
Conduct initial assessments to understand patients' needs, strengths, limitations, and goals.
Use standardized tests, interviews, and observations to evaluate physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities.
Develop a comprehensive evaluation report, identifying the patient's areas of improvement, potential goals, and required interventions.
Developing Treatment Plans:
Create personalized treatment plans based on assessment results, addressing specific patient needs.
Set measurable goals for improvement in areas like self-care, mobility, work performance, and cognitive skills.
Recommend appropriate therapeutic activities and exercises tailored to the patient's abilities and progress.
Providing Therapeutic Interventions:

Patient Education and Support:
Educate patients and their families about the rehabilitation process, techniques, and strategies for enhancing functional independence.

Offer emotional support and encouragement throughout the recovery process.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, physical therapists, speech therapists, and nursing staff, to provide comprehensive care.
Participate in care planning meetings and share insights about the patient's progress and therapy requirements.

Documentation and Reporting:
