Job Description Dennis Group's Process Engineers are key in our projects of designing and building food and beverage processing facilities. Process Engineers work in every aspect of a project - controls, packaging, mechanical, electrical, building system, architecture, etc., from the conceptual stages to design completion, and throughout construction. They provide expertise in flow diagrams, alterations, constraints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), layout, install, and commissioning and start-up. Process Engineers enable operational efficiencies for the food and beverage process plants of our clients. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Responsibilities Develop process design basis and select unit operations. Develop operation specifications. Coordinate with other project disciplines (engineers, designers, architects, etc.) Prepare process flow and piping and instrumentation diagrams Create process flow diagrams. Prepare mass and energy balances Size and specify process and process utility equipment Equipment procurement and bid evaluation. Assist project management with the development of project scope, budget, and schedule for all process related work Help to coordinate the schedules and work of contractors for process equipment installation. Work with clients, vendors, and suppliers to develop cost estimates and proposals. Provide client assumptions on supply recommendations. Develop process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs) Oversee process and utility equipment installations Provide onsite construction start-up and commissioning support. Research process engineering best practices Support talent growth within our organization Required Education Skills and Experience Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field. Familiarity with process flow diagrams and P&IDs is a plus. Interest in food safety and sanitary design principles and a desire learn about various food and beverage industry standards, practices, and regulations. Experience with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD. Past process experience in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, or other sanitary environments is a plus. Have a motivated and results orientated attitude. GPA: 3.0 or above Must meet Travel Requirement - On-site construction project coordination and management with travel requirements between 30-50% of the year Physical Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Interface with manufacturing and engineering departments as well as vendors. As a Process Engineer - Project, you will be managing projects that result in a safer work environment, a higher quality product, a more efficient process, and a positive impact on the company's bottom line. You will collaborate with colleagues in other engineering functions as well as production, quality, purchasing, planning and maintenance. You will be responsible for managing the implementation of and supporting new processes, new equipment and new assembly systems. Responsibilities Project leader for implementation of new processes, new equipment and new assembly systems. Examines equipment, processes, operations, and procedures to identify improvement opportunities in areas of safety, quality, throughput, and cost. Evaluate vendor proposals for new equipment purchases. Select & implement suitable manufacturing processes and apply modern organizational principles to make products at a competitive cost. Identify & optimize current and new manufacturing processes using continuous improvement Work closely with production and maintenance to ensure equipment is operating in a like-new condition Specify tools, jigs and fixtures Project coordination and daily troubleshooting Process Development - may include Visual Work Instructions Production support and process troubleshooting. Cost (scrap, rework, cycle time, etc.) reduction Qualifications Knowledge/Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience managing the implementation of capital projects involving new equipment and/or equipment systems. About The Role We are looking for a Material Process Engineering co-op to help to develop and standardize processes for a novel feedstock material. Strong communication, flexibility, and the desire to “wear many hats'' will all be essential skills for any successful applicant. You will be expected to teach yourself new skills and apply them to complete your tasks and projects, but you will receive guidance and mentorship along the way. Responsibilities: Tune process parameters to make performance improvements Assist in quality control and process improvement efforts for production scale-up Develop and perform surface characterization testing and metallographic inspection Perform electron and optical microscopy analysis Support feedstock alloy development and validation Develop and perform mechanical testing methods Design and carry out Design of Experiments and other statistical analysis Use Alloy's hardware and software to build sample parts and test specimens Provide feedback to mechanical and software engineers on machine performance Develop automated data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting on quality metrics Requirements: You take ownership of your projects, completing tasks efficiently and effectively You are adaptable and excel when working in a fast-paced environment Background or coursework in materials science, mechanical engineering, or controls preferred Past industry co-ops or internships strongly desired Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, or Chemistry Strong communication skills and ability to document technical Basic SW experience is a plus: Python, linux, excel, Jira, git, or PLC programming *Pay Range: $23-28/hr dependent on experience and qualifications Additional requirements This position will require access to information subject to control under U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”).
