**Job Summary and Responsibilities** As a NutritionAssistant, you will assist in delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient food services to patients and staff. Every day you will prepare and deliver meal trays, assist with food preparation, maintain cleanliness, ensure food safety compliance, and interact with patients regarding dietary needs.
To be successful, you will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, strong food safety knowledge, and excellent customer service, contributing to a positive dining experience.
+ Prepares and serves food within guidelines of menu and dietary requirements using required kitchen utensils and equipment. Maintains knowledge of recipe ingredients to respond to food allergy questions or requests.
+ Follows healthcare foodservice industry standards, regulations, guidelines and procedures including monitoring and maintaining food temperatures during cooking, holding, and storage processes. Avoids cross-contamination of foods and adheres to personal hygiene requirements. Maintains proper labeling of food products and ensures storage of food equipment, and machinery per regulations and facility guidelines.
+ Follows organizational standards and guidelines for a high quality patient and customer experience. Ensures proper meal portioning and an aesthetically pleasing presentation. Provides service recovery efforts and escalates to leadership as needed.
+ May be responsible for one or more of the following:
+ Following therapeutic diet modifications and guidelines including allergy restrictions for all patient meal trays, nourishment, snacks and supplements
+ Printing, providing and following production tool and/or electronic meal tallies/differentials for food preparation
+ Explaining basic therapeutic diet orders and menus and responding to questions from patients and family members. Escalating additional patient nutrition questions or needs to appropriate clinical support team members.
+ Collecting patient food preferences and ensuring compliance with prescribed diet orders. Distributing food preferences to the kitchen for menu planning in a timely manner.
+ Operating electronic diet office software and tools following established procedures and protocols.
+ Navigating electronic health records to access patient diet orders and nutritional reports.
+ Performing general cleaning of equipment and work areas (e.g., cleaning the tray line, equipment, coolers, office area, and emptying trash cans, etc.)

* Serves as the first point of contact for all complaints involving patient Food Services. Follows through with resolving any problems and communicating to management when patient food service problems are identified.
* Communicates pertinent information, e.g., difficulty eating, poor appetite, nourishment concerns, formula usage, requests to see the Dietitian, etc., to ensure proper handling and processing of information.
* Contributes towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement, i.e. peer-to-peer accountability.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Assures that all new admits receive information regarding the operation of the dining services program and their prescribed diets. Assists and accommodates patients, as needed, with information regarding their diets, e.g., answering questions about their menu selections, placing their order using computerized software, meal ordering directions and problems, etc. Distributes tube feedings, nourishments/supplements, fruit baskets, and birthday cakes, when ordered, to patients at the assigned times.
* Identifies menu items and describes every item on the menu, responding to inquiries regarding taste and ingredients, as appropriate.
* Checks the tray for accuracy and presentation prior to delivering to the patient. Secures any missing items or additional items requested by the patient at the time of delivery. Assists in plating food items on patients' trays during peak times, per team leader or management. Delivers trays and sets up accordingly.
* Accurately logs and tracks customer concerns on appropriate document. Utilizes appropriate patient identifiers prior to meal delivery. Ensures that patients are satisfied with all levels of service ensuring that patient is satisfied prior to leaving the room. Contributes towards improvement of department score for patient satisfaction, through peer-to-peer accountability to service standards.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Confirms diet orders listed as "no orders" on the patient meal work sheets, including orders, which do not conform to standard diet orders, maintaining current and knowledgeable of patient diet orders and hospital menus. Reviews Insulin reports/tickets for patients on diabetic medications that require medication reminders prior to meal delivery as appropriate; contacts nursing accordingly.
* Performs quality or PI projects, as directed, which may include test trays. Ensures correct selection of meals is served to reduce waste and redundancy. Collects soiled trays from patient rooms, returns to food carts and records calorie count information on the tray tickets.
* Provides accurate documentation of work performed. Maintains an orderly work area, ensuring that supplies, equipment, parts, etc., are stored in cabinets, closets or other designated areas.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Inventories and keeps condiments at pre-established amounts to reduce waste and stay within budgeting funds. Maintains stock of patient menus on assigned floors.
* Utilizes resources with cost effectiveness and value creation in mind. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, assisting coworkers as needed.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Makes recommendations to improve patient satisfaction scores through excellent room service advocacy. Assists management in developing as well as implementing process improvements for increasing patient satisfaction.

**Job Summary**
Performs nutrition care support within parameters set forth by Food Services. Orders entry system for diet changes, answering and responding to phone calls related to nutrition services. Assists patients with dysphagia in ordering food/beverages that are appropriate for their diet. Reviews food allergies with patients to ensure they are input correctly in CBORD. Depending on location, conducts nutritional screenings of hospitalized patients. Depending on location, serves as a liaison between call center and nutritional services.
Reviews reports relevant to position and provides necessary follow-ups. Assists with menu selections and menu entries. Ensures proper order of food. Processes supplement and tube feeding orders. Completes calorie counts. Works intricately with dietitians. Serves as a liaison between dietitians and nutritional service department.
Demonstrates ability to work with patients of all ages. Displays ability to recognize and provide for ethic, cultural and religious needs. Possesses knowledge of nutrition and special diets. Performs patient rounding and follows up with patients concerning meals and meal services. Communicates effectively, timely and often with nursing staff, nutrition techs, dietitians and call center staff.
Uses computerized diet sheets, accesses patient computer system, and retrieves completed meals from patients' rooms and records intake and calorie count information. Maintains compliance with all Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.
Possesses excellent customer service skills continuously. Displays listening skills and effectively communicates with co-workers, supervisors and nursing staff. Establishes effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and nursing staff. Evaluates and maintains quality control standards.
**Qualifications**
Minimum of six months experience required. Depending on location, preceptor CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) course
completed within two years of hire and/or a current student in a dictionary program. CDM must be renewed every three years.
