What you'll do The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering compassionate, hands-on patient care while also supporting essential administrative and communication functions of the unit. Department/Unit: Diagnostic Radiology Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $37,440.00 - $48,672.00 Functions as a member of the patient care centered health team under the supervision of the Radiology Technologist; in the following Assisting the Technologist in completing activities of daily operation and assuring patient safety. Assuring the safety and cleanliness of the Unit, as well as maintaining supplies and equipment. Relates to and assists patients, families, and other health care workers with respect and kindness. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Responsible for the preparation of the patients for the Imaging procedure * Works with the technologists to facilitate patient handling, e.g. Bring patients to and from the dressing, exam rooms and back to their ER rooms. * Initiates/Completes paperwork related to the exam/care of the patient as indicated by technologist. * Assists the patient on and off procedure table as indicated by technologist. * Provides support and assistance to the technologist and Radiologists i.e. screening phone calls, exam set up and post exam clean up. * Maintains stock supply and linen in exam room. * Completes light housekeeping duties, as needed * Works in areas and on shifts as assigned by Manager/ Clinical Specialist * Assists in transportation of patients when needed. * Demonstrates knowledge of the patient BILL of RIGHTS, HIPPA, by incorporating them into their practice * Participates in development and attainment of unit, department, and divisional goals. * Reports change in patient status to Radiologist, nurse and/or technologist * Establishes and maintain maintains direct, honest, open professional relationships with all health care team members, patients. and families * Actively supports JCAHO and HIPPA standards * Completes hospital and departmental required education. Personalized care together with advanced technology is what it means to be Community Strong Responsibilities Monitor Technician is responsible for observing the rhythm strip display/heart beats and electrocardiograms (EKG) of patients on the Telemetry unit/s document arrhythmias and immediately report findings to the unit, Registered Nurse and rapid response team as needed. Duties include observing and interpreting Heart Monitors. The bulk of a monitor technicians work day is observing and interpreting the cardiac monitors of patients on the Telemetry units and alerting the Registered Nursing staff of all changes & becoming familiar with each patient's cardiac rhythm by running a rhythm strip of each patient at the beginning of each tour and when changes in rhythm occur. Monitor technicians perform EKG's on patients if needed.If a monitor tech notices any changes in the patient's heart readings or EKGs, they report them immediately to a Registered Nurse or Doctor via emergency red phone. The Monitor Technician will print a strip that is timed and dated. Update Patient Records. After taking new readings from the patient's heart monitors, the Monitor Technician is responsible for updating that patient's records. This will take place in Meditech as well as placing an EKG strip in the patients chart. The RN will co-sign EKG entries. Maintain Equipment. Monitor Technicians are responsible for cleaning their equipment, including EKG machines and heart monitors. They are also responsible for alerting the proper Point of Contact when their equipment needs maintenance. Monitor technicians are able to recognize and differentiate irregular patterns as they relate to the standard rhythm of a patient's heartbeat. Charged with monitoring up to 40 patients during a single shift, the Monitor Technician is able to multi-task. Monitor Technicians can recognize abnormalities in patient heart readings. Monitor Technicians are attentive and quick on their feet, and they react without hesitation to urgent situations. Written and verbal communication skills are necessary to be successful as a Monitor Technician, as people in these position document patients' statuses and relay this information to Doctors and Registered Nurses.This position requires that monitor techs are knowledgeable of hospital equipment as well as computer software. The Monitor Technician is responsible to notify the unit if lead failure occurs. Troubleshoot malfunctions of Central Monitor and notify repair service as needed. Assists the healthcare provider in patient examination as requested including checking patient vital signs, prepares and maintains examination and treatment areas, prepares patients for exam/procedures, collects and processes specimens, applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control, performs and documents EKGs. performs phlebotomy, document of elective health record within the scope of responsibility, maintain medical inventory in treatment areas.Pursues appropriate continuing medical education. Maintains patient confidentiality & adheres to all safety, emergency, and infection control policies and reports any unsafe conditions Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Department/Unit: Cardio-Respiratory Services Work Shift: Evening (United States of America) Salary Range: The Monitor Technician I have the responsibilities of 1) recording electrocardiograms (EKGs) of customers ranging in age from newborn to geriatric; 2) downloading EKGs from cart to MUSE EKG Computer System; 3) delivering cardiac rhythm strips from the telemetry station to the various nursing units and posting these strips in specified unit locations 4) performing miscellaneous duties related to cardiac monitoring including but not limited to troubleshooting telemetry transmitter packs (i.e., replacing worn electrodes, changing batteries, changing wires, etc.); 5) assisting in the search and retrieval of misplaced telemetry transmitter packs and cardiac pacemakers; and 6) educating various disciplines in EKG technique.
