Position Summary:
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University (SSVM) is seeking Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians to join our new veterinary program and teaching hospital. The hospital is located 1.5 miles from our main Glassboro campus.
SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The teaching hospital is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments, including anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and oral surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency/critical care, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care, and surgery.
These positions will support the clinical services in the veterinary teaching hospital treating patients and educating students. Selected candidates will be able to:

After completion of a six-month probationary period, the employee's pay can increase to the "Job Rate" for that position. The Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) group at Princeton University is a centralized administrative department reporting to the Dean for Research and is responsible for animal and veterinary care of all research animals at Princeton University. The Veterinary Technician provides support to all Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) Facilities. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Veterinary Services.
Veterinary Technicians are considered essential services staff. Essential services staff performs jobs that are necessary and required to maintain basic University operations during scheduled or unscheduled work closures due to emergencies, events or other situations.
The position requires that the individual is willing and able to work with all species of laboratory animals, BSL-1 or BSL-2 level infectious agents, hazardous chemicals and radiation and use all appropriate safety measures in working with those agents.
Veterinary Technicians have weekend and holiday on-call duties. Must be within a 1-hour radius of the Princeton University campus when on-call to respond to animal emergencies. The position also requires that an individual is able to lift 50lb.
Responsibilities
Clinical rounds and treatments:
• Performs regularly scheduled rounds of all LAR facilities.
• Maintain records and performs the appropriate treatment for sick animals under the direction of the staff veterinarian, including treatments to be provided on weekends.
• Provides curative and experimental treatments to laboratory animals as prescribed by researchers and/or the LAR veterinarians.
• Assists in coordinating treatment schedules and participates in the delivery of timely treatments as needed, including off hours and on weekends.
• Develops, documents and, as needed, provides the environmental enrichment programs for laboratory animals.
• Administers the dispensing and documentation of controlled drugs under the direct supervision of the attending veterinarian and according to state and federal guidelines.
• Maintains a reasonable stock of drugs and supplies used in the appropriate care of laboratory animals.
Documentation, audits, and regulatory compliance:
• Monitors mandatory documentation maintained by researchers (e.g., post-operative monitoring, regular weighing for animals on water restriction) for the attending veterinarian.
• Responsible for the oversight of procedural spaces to make sure all calibrations and maintenance is performed and documented.
• Schedule regular maintenance of veterinary equipment, to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and to remain in compliance with regulations and guidelines.
• Ensures, that drugs and supplies are not out of date. Assists LAR Management with performing monthly audits of LAR facilities.
• Ensures that appropriate safety protocols are followed when hazardous materials are used in connection with research animals.
Other duties as assigned:
• Cross trains and provides absentee support for other veterinary technicians in other LAR facilities. • • Rotates with other veterinary technicians for week night, weekend and holiday coverage as needed. • Enters data accurately and timely into the electronic management systems, order and service request forms, veterinary logs, vivarium calendar, and time reporting system.
• Perform Special Service Requests, as directed by management, provide technical skills training to the research community in support of IACUC-approved research protocols (e.g., animal handling and restraint, etc.)
• Exhibit a willingness to assume additional responsibilities and increase knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
BA/BS in Animal Science or related field and/or
• Veterinary Technology Degree from an AVMA accredited school and/or:
- AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist Level
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience working with laboratory animals in a responsibility described above.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a laboratory animal resources team and ability to share knowledge with other animal care staff, students, and new researchers.
• Ability to work independently and communicate well with different levels within the organization, and work well with a diverse team for a common goal consistent with the mission of the Laboratory Animal Resources Department.
• Willing and able to work safely with biological and chemical hazards and able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) lbs., stand or walk continuously up to 6 hours per day, sit for up to 2 hours per day.
• Basic knowledge of biology and behavior of laboratory animal species.
• Ability to follow-up tasks from beginning to completion and carry out duties in accordance to supervisor deadlines and university policies.
• Preserve confidential information and not disclose contents of this information except in the performance of the work assignment and in accordance with University and departmental policies and procedures.
• The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check.

Position Summary:

SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The teaching hospital is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments, including anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and oral surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency/critical care, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care, and surgery.

Due to the teaching nature of the hospital, this position will supervise and instruct professional students and veterinary technician students in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques; as well as, emergency procedures. Learn to provide standard paramedical technical and patient support, nursing care and instruction in a professional and courteous manner.
* Work as a team with students, interns, residents and faculty to provide skilled nursing care for all patients including, but not limited to post-surgical, chronic conditions, and isolation, which may include methicillin resistant organisms and zoonotic diseases.

* Maintain, trouble shoot the care and use of intravenous (IV) fluid and syringe pumps, indwelling urinary catheters, Jackson-Pratt grenade style drains, central line catheters, peripheral IVCs, feeding tubes, oxygen cage, nasal oxygen, nebulization, and stable temporary and permanent tracheostomy care.
* Assist in calculating drug dosages and fluid/CRI rates.
* Set up and administer IV fluids, continuous rate infusions (CRI's) and other medications as directed by the veterinarian.
* Aseptically prepare blood products for administration, monitor appropriately during transfusion and record monitoring parameters.
* Set up and administer enteral feedings through nasogastric (NG), nasoesophageal (NE), esophagostomy (E)-tube, gastrostomy (G)-tube, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), or jejunostomy (J)-tubes, as directed by the veterinarian.
* Perform treatments and administer medications under the direct or written orders of the veterinarian.
* Record treatments, procedures, supplies, and thorough notes on patient's medical record.
* Record and enter charges for supplies and procedures into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
* Maintain IMC/ ISO patient logs.
Learn to provide instruction in a professional and courteous manner
* Orientation, direction and instruction of students and clinicians.

Additional Physical Demands
The work schedule for this position may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Scheduled on-call will also be required.
An environment of stress may be anticipated. The person in this position must be capable of reliably functioning in such an area. The amount of physical exertion will vary with assignments. For example, the position may be engaged with lifting a 40lb. dog on and off an examination table. The handling of any animal presents some element of risk or
injury. Some strength and considerable caution are required when working with animals during diagnostic or surgical procedures. An ability to work in the presence of animal waste and fluids is necessary. To some degree, unpleasantness may be experienced under such conditions. This position entails operating equipment, administering medications, and restraining animals of various species for examination. Exposure to anesthetic agents may present a potential hazard. Syringes, needles, and medications are potentially dangerous and must be used with care. Persons allergic to animal dander, dust, pollen, hay, etc., may experience discomfort in this position. Work involving animals with various disease states may expose the individual to viral, bacterial, and fungal agents known to be transmissible to man. Our faculty clinicians and LVTs mentor veterinary students and interns as they deliver top-quality care in shelter, clinical, and community settings. The LVT team provides surgical and technical support for high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN), soft tissue, and dental procedures, as well as other essential services. Through our accessible care programs, we also offer low-cost preventive care and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.
MSMP LVTs use their full skill set, one day assisting in surgery, the next working directly with clients, all in a supportive teaching environment. We're looking for a motivated professional with the vision and drive to help lead and grow this new program in alignment with Cornell's core values.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Providing direct client communication with professionalism and empathy, while delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and support to their families.

We are seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician who will be responsible for patient care and client support for the Sports Medicine & Physical Rehabilitation Service (SMPR).
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting veterinarians with the preparation and management of service flow
Client interaction, which includes handling, monitoring, and discharging patients.
Provide instruction to veterinary students, interns and occasionally residents, in technical skills and procedures.
Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, students, and clinicians
Coordinate patient flow, assuring cases receive efficient, quality care throughout their entire visit.
Assist with scheduling, set-up and completion of all nursing care and procedures needed by patients using auxiliary services throughout CUHA.
Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA/CVTEA accredited institution approved by the NYS Department of Education with at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
NYS licensure or eligibility to be licensed.
Knowledge of basic infection control practices and the ability to adhere to and enforce those practices.
Experience in the use of various disinfectants and proper procedures.
Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Must communicate well with others in a timely and professional manner
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and often demanding environment, while paying close attention to details and demonstrating a high level of initiative.
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including the ability to move/lift 50 lbs. or more with assistance, the ability to stand for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to kneel and remain in a steady position during procedures or treatment of animals.

Two or more years of experience as a licensed veterinary technician, familiar with sports medicine and physical rehabilitation.

Required Qualifications

Able to work with multiple large animal species, not limited to equine and bovine.

The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) instructor is responsible for instructing students using the approved curriculum of Valley College, including the Essential and Recommended Skills List. classroom management, tracking the progress of students in the course they are instructing, which also includes keeping accurate records/files on each student in the class(es) he or she teaches. The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) instructor will follow programmatic accreditation policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
A. Training Students
Instruct and guide students in the classroom and/or lab learning environment, as designated by the American Veterinary Medical Association's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA/CVTEA) recommended curriculum and Essential and Recommended Skills List.
Plan and coordinate the class and clinical portion of the assigned course(s). Develop lesson plans that include lecture and/or lab delivery methods, assignments/activities, homework and evaluation tools for assigned classes as designated by the Valley College Academics team.
Demonstrate procedures/processes and operate appropriate equipment as designated by the curriculum.
Grade and evaluate students' work in a timely manner and provide constructive feedback.
Assist and tutor students with areas of the curriculum with which they are having difficulty.
Keep accurate and up to date progress reports on students' work.
Prepare periodic reports/updates on students, classroom rosters, and documentation demonstrating program changes, as required.
Provide telephone and/or email follow-up with students as requested within 24 hours of initial contact.
Maintain a cooperative and professional learning environment.
Responsible for the supervision of students while they are at their clinical (off-site) experience as per the rules and regulations set by the AVMA/CVTEA policies and procedures, as applicable.
Provide instructional support and/or assume role as instructor in the veterinary clinical classrooms as requested by Director of Academic Affairs (DOAA), Campus Director, or (in the absence of the DOAA), the Program Head.
Assist with implementing and executing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies and protocols.
Coordinate and assist with animal acquisition and record keeping.
If requested, serve as the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (SCNAVTA) student chapter advisor and/or assist with all planning and coordination activities.
If requested, assist with the development of the ACCSC Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) committee membership.
B. Course Development
Conduct on-going evaluation of course material.
Participate in the selection of books and material.
Follow the school's protocol for maintaining course curriculum materials that consist of current tests, assignments and course syllabi and other student and instructor resources, such as PowerPoint lectures or recorded live lectures used for tutoring sessions so that it is easily accessible for designated employees.
C. Professional Development and Continuing Education
Develop a professional development (self-development) and professional growth plan, including continuing education that meets Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board, Ohio Professional Development for Faculty, and ACCSC (accreditation) requirements.
Provide support documentation that the professional development and continuing education plan has been executed.
Attend scheduled faculty meetings and in-service workshops.
Attend Valley College Veterinarian Assistant Program Advisory Committee meetings or Faculty Committee meetings, as assigned.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time salaried position (40 hours a week). This is an onsite position. The hours depend on the academic term and student needs. Typical work hours align with class schedules, including occasional evenings or weekends, to accommodate student availability. This position may include teaching using the school's learning management system. The standard work week is Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm.
REQUIREMENTS - ACADEMIC, LICENSING AND PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE
Faculty members for the Veterinary programs must be a current Registered, Licensed, and/or Certified Veterinary Technician with at least four years of working experience in the field of veterinary (technician or assistant) or animal care. The faculty members must have graduated from an AVMA accredited program. These individuals must hold a current RVT License.
All incumbents must have the ability to express ideas in a clear, concise and motivating manner and employ effective questioning techniques to encourage students to pursue their own answers. They must have the ability and organizational skills necessary to maintain an accurate tracking system and be able to establish a disciplined learning environment.
The faculty teaching academic general education courses in a degree program or in a non-degree program that articulates to a degree program must have at a minimum, a master's degree with appropriate academic coursework and preparation in the subject area(s) taught. The faculty teaching academic general education must have a minimum of 18 semester credit hours (or the equivalent) in the related subject area(s). Faculty teaching academic general education courses in a terminal non-degree program must have at a minimum, a baccalaureate degree with appropriate academic coursework and preparation in the subject area(s) taught.
Valley College will verify prior work experience, license, and education background.
The Veterinary Technician program is an academic associate degree. Since students from the associate degree program enroll in the same classes as the Veterinary Assistant program, Faculty members must meet the higher ACCSC accreditation standards.

Responsibilities
Clinical & Procedural Support
Assists with preparing and participating in procedures, compounding medications, performing treatments at the direction of the veterinary staff, restraining animals, performing diagnostic radiographs, cleaning up after procedures and preparing and sterilizing surgical packs.
Performs laboratory work on hospital and research samples, including but not limited to fecal analysis, urinalysis, hematology, chemistries, and microbiology, and prepares samples for shipment.
Responsible for maintaining records and entering data into the ZIMS system.
Clinic & Inventory Management
Assists in clinic management including scheduling equipment maintenance (hoods, x-ray equipment, anesthesia equipment) and renewing all vendor licenses and clinic licenses (radiology, pharmacy, etc.).
Assists in drug inventory which includes monthly expired drug checks and maintains inventory to USDA/AZA standards. Logs in controlled drugs as per protocol and regulation. Orders and negotiates prices on drugs and equipment.
Assist in maintaining fecal and annual exam schedules.
Assists in maintaining sample logs for freezers, slides, fecals and bloodwork.
Operational Support & Training
Drives to other locations as needed to obtain supplies and equipment and deliver samples.
Assists in training new staff, veterinary technician students, and volunteers as needed
Maintains licensure through continuing education.
Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.
Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
A minimum of 1 years' experience as a veterinary technician in a zoological institution and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Wildlife Conservation, Biology, Ecology, or a closely related field is preferred.
Degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technology Program or equivalent combination of training/experience required.
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Board within 6 months of hire required
Professional Skills
Ability to be a team player with excellent customer service skills required.
Strong organizational skills preferred with strong computer knowledge and skills.
Independent decision making/problem solving ability.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required.
Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing is required.
