In Rhode Island, that changed in 1977 with the founding of the Newport County Women’s Resource Center.
The Center’s parent organization – the Dallas Gay Political Caucus, later known as the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance – incorporated what was then called the Foundation for Human Understanding in June 1983.
History The Women's Resource Center (WRC) was created by student activists in 1983 to meet the needs of women on campus.
Founded in 1984, the Women’s History and Resource Center collects, preserves, interprets, and promotes the history of the GFWC and women volunteers.
In 1985, it established the AIDS Resource Center as a source for community awareness and prevention education, legal services, a food pantry, clothing, household goods and emergency funding.
In 1988, the Center established the Nelson-Tebedo Health Clinic for treatment, clinical drug trials and HIV testing.
After a fire damaged most of the Center’s facilities in 1989, the search was on to find a larger home.
Established in 1991, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Historical Resource Center is home to well over 2 million objects pertaining to the BEP and its products.
To recognize the history of and the struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights in Dallas, the Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library was established at the Community Center in 1994.
After retiring in 2019, she joined the GFWC Woman’s Club of Cypress in California.
