DUTIES: * Supervise Student Assistants and serve as the first point of contact for all student lounge issues during your shift * Carry out daily student assistant duties, including lounge monitoring, clerical work, and student support * Enforce lounge policies and help maintain a clean, inclusive, and welcoming environment * Assist with departmental initiatives such as: * Council of Finance process support * Inventory tracking and supply management * Event planning and coordination * Represent SLI on student staff committees and, when available, serve as student lead during event setup and execution * Support locker rentals, equipment reservations, and administrative functions * Coordinate with professional staff to ensure coverage, task completion, and accurate reporting * Assist with shift opening and closing procedures, following all UHD emergency protocols * Participate in student evaluations by providing peer-based feedback and insight * Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Must be available to work 15-20 hours per week. * Preferred availability: * Morning Supervisor: 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM * Afternoon Supervisor: 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Schedules will remain flexible based on class availability.) * Ability to work independently and manage peer interactions with professionalism * Strong communication, time management, and multitasking skills * Familiarity with Microsoft Office; comfortable learning new systems and tools * Ability to serve as a peer role model and uphold the values of SLI * Participation in student staff meetings and development sessions is required * Leadership experience is highly preferred, though not required QUALIFICATIONS: * Must be a currently enrolled UHD student * Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher * Must have been awarded Federal Work-Study from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. The Center for Student Life builds community and develops experiences that encourage and support student success. We provide a range of services, which include coordinating institutional events, planning new student orientation, developing leadership programs, supporting student engagement, peer to peer initiatives, overseeing student governments and organizations and collaborating with campus partners. Position Overview The Summer Intern will operate within the Center for Student Life, working primarily with the Senior Student Services Coordinator to plan, implement, and execute orientation programs and Welcome Week activities for our graduate health profession programs. Academic programs include the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Health Professions (including Physician Assistant Studies and Doctor of Physical Therapy), College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences, College of Public Health, and the UNT System College of Pharmacy. The Summer Intern will be responsible for increasing student engagement in orientation, developing program assessment and student learning outcomes, assisting in the improvement of an Online Orientation program, developing the training process for Orientation Leaders, expanding and coordinating the role of student groups in orientation, and making recommendations for future orientation programs.
