A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EARLY HEAD START TEACHER
As an Early Head Start Teacher, you provide a safe and healthy learning environment that is welcoming to infants, toddlers, and their parents. Each shift, you come to class energized and ready to take on the day. You provide an environment that supports the emerging skills of young children in all aspects of their learning as you utilize the High Scope Infant Toddler curriculum model. Collaborating with other staff members, you conduct classroom planning sessions to develop both individual and weekly lesson plans.
Nurturing and caring, you assist with feeding, outside walks, and general care. You lead a balanced program of child-initiated and adult-directed activities, including at least 45 minutes of free choice time and 30 minutes of outdoor time daily. Taking each child's emotional, physical, and cognitive development into account, you provide supervision utilizing the primary caregiving (PITC) model. You plan for transitions so that they occur in a predictable and unrushed manner that helps the children feel safe. Organized and efficient, you ensure that all procedures are followed, including ongoing visits, developmental screenings, COR assessments, individual plans, and parent conferences. It warms your heart to provide early childhood education, and you love teaching these sweet children in this child development position!
QUALIFICATIONS
A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential that is specific to infant and toddler development or an associate's degree in early childhood education
Valid New York State driver's license and reliable transportation
Ability to lift 50 pounds and the agility required to move at childrens' levels including bending, squatting, and kneeling
An associate degree in early childhood education is preferred. Two years or more of experience working with infants or toddlers would be a plus. Possess a current Mandated Reporter - Child Abuse & Maltreatment Certificate by New York State.

SALARY: $ 32,659-35,457 (benefits included, directed by Union Contract)
SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm, 9 am to 5 pm, 10 am to 6 pm (Schedule varies depending on the needs of the program)
Job Summary: This position serves as an AssistantTeacher for a Grand Street Settlement Early Childhood classroom. The AssistantTeacher will work collaboratively with the Group Teacher to ensure the successful operation of a classroom with a total of 15-20 children. The AssistantTeacher also works with a team of other classroom teachers and family members to implement the curriculum to achieve outcomes for children of all abilities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
● Associates in Early Childhood Education; BA/BS in Early Childhood Education preferred.
● Minimum two years of previous teaching experience
● Basic computer literacy in email, Microsoft Office.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The AssistantTeacher's responsibilities chiefly fall within the following core functions, although s/he may perform other tasks as needed:
Child Growth & Development: Implements a child-centered curriculum and learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation to promote development in all domains for children of all abilities. Complete home visits twice a year and as needed in support of child/ family outcomes.
● Planning: Responsible for collaborating with the Group Teacher in the preparation of daily lesson plans. Assist with planning and coordinating parent involvement activities and events.
● Program Implementation: Provide positive guidance and discipline supporting children as they acquire readiness skills for kindergarten and beyond.
● Family Partnerships: Encourage parent participation in staff-parent conferences and home visits, discussing their child's development and education
● Communication and Service Coordination: Maintain regular contact with parents and complete appropriate documentation; Direct developmental concerns to the Health, Nutrition, and Disabilities Coordinator; Maintain confidentiality of child and family information (verbal and written)
● Record Keeping and Reporting: Request supplies as needed and participate in classroom/program inventory as requested. Work with the teaching team to analyze child outcomes by looking at various data sources and making
● On- Going Monitoring and Self-Assessment - Complete child assessments and analyze data on child outcomes three times a year along with the Group Teacher. Conduct parent-teacher conferences 2 times a year. Complete developmental and behavioral screenings within 45 days of the child entry and do referrals as needed for disabilities and mental health.
● Follow applicable state regulations and agency policies regarding the prevention and reporting of child maltreatment.
● Participate in annual performance evaluation to set short- and long-term professional goals.
● Participate in coaching opportunities, professional development, staff meetings, and reflective supervision sessions
● Being able to lift 35 pounds easily and regularly
● Practice positive teacher-child relationships, including but not limited to working and speaking with children face-to-face at their level
● Special projects and duties, as assigned and as required.

Job Description

AssistTeacher in implementing all of the Head Start School Readiness Domains (that are aligned with Early Learning Standards) to increase child outcomes in early learning and successfully prepare children for transitioning into the kindergarten setting.
Participate in scheduled workshops, in-service trainings and formal trainings (both individual and small group as required or requested).
To carry out Head Start Performance Standards in accordance with all discipline areas.
Any other duties deemed necessary by the CEO/Executive Director or Senior Management and all program activities as it relates to the Mission of the Agency.
· In accordance with the Head Start Performance standards 1302.91, is willing to participate and benefit from Intensive Practice Based Coaching to enhance and strengthen Professional Development and Teaching Practices in the classroom setting.

Qualifications

Prior experience or knowledge working with young children.
High School Diploma or GED. Current Child Development Associate (CDA) or enrolled in CDA Class and will obtain credential

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HEAD START TEACHER
As a Head Start Teacher, you provide a safe and healthy preschool learning environment that is welcoming to children and their parents. Every shift, you come to class energized and ready to take on the day. You conduct classroom planning sessions to develop both individual and weekly lesson plans. You submit those lesson plans for review in accordance with the established procedures. In cooperation with the child's guardian and the center team, you identify the strengths, needs, and interests of each child to develop individual educational plans.
You provide an educational environment and implement a curriculum that encourages the development of self-awareness, autonomy, and self-expression. At mealtimes, you participate with the children and use it as a teaching opportunity to model appropriate social manners. You plan for transitions so that they occur in a predictable and unrushed manner that helps the children feel safe. As needed, you attend parent meetings to familiarize parents with Head Start and its operations. You feel great about providing children with quality education and fostering their development!
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in early childhood education OR Bachelor's degree in early childhood education
AA or BA in another field, at least 6+ courses in early childhood education
1 year or more of experience working with young children in a preschool setting
Valid NY driver's license and reliable personal transportation
Current CPR and first aid certification or the willingness to complete training at the first opportunity
Ability to lift and carry a 50-pound child
Can you work well with staff and parents as part of a team? Are you patient and friendly? Do you have excellent classroom management skills? If yes, you might just be perfect for this preschool position!
WORK SCHEDULE
This full-time educational position typically works Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm.
