    UCH is a Philadelphia-based property management company with significant real estate holdings in and around the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Our current portfolio consists of 4,000 residential units and 250,000 square feet of commercial space. A skilled carpenter is needed to join our crew to work on projects ranging from historic rehabs to commercial fit outs. We are seeking a Carpenter who is hardworking, detail-oriented and capable of doing rough framing through finish work. The ideal candidate for this position will be a team player who is willing to work both independently and on a crew. We are looking for a carpenter who is innovative, flexible and capable of producing high-quality finish work to meet project demands. Carpenter Skills: General operating knowledge of all tools and equipment Basic math skills to perform algebra and geometry calculations related to construction tasks Problem-solving skills to identify issues and create action plans Ability to read blueprints and willingness to adhere to building codes Knowledge of basic construction materials, policies and procedures Ability to adapt to changing work priorities in a fast-paced, challenging environment Capable of working independently without constant supervision Carpenter Requirements: Previous experience in framing, trim work, moldings, construction, cabinetry and finish work Ability to work effectively with a supervisor and other tradesmen to complete projects efficiently Valid driver's license and vehicle Strong levels of communication - both written and spoken English.     Shift 7a-3:30p M-F with 25-30% travel to Cranberry Passavant Hospital. This role will be part of the Local 95 Union Purpose: Perform a wide variety of both rough and finished work, new construction, and remodeling in a safe manner. Responsibilities: * Communicate with other construction personnel, and as instructed, assist them in the performance of their duties. This would include such areas as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, flooring and HVAC. Work holidays and shifts as scheduled. Work cooperatively with all hospital personnel in accordance with hospital policy, regulations and standards. Maintain work area and equipment in clean and orderly manner. * Perform both rough and finished carpentry with metal studs and drywall construction, including detailed taping and finishing required; cabinet and shelf fitting and installation, hanging of jamb and door sets, install hardware and change locksets, install windows, hang wall accessories, prior experience with the installation of VCT/carpet preferred; and any other construction work as directed. * Make recommendations to Lead about how methods and procedures can be improved. Ensure significant information regarding department activities and concerns follow the appropriate channel of communications. Display respect for the opinions of others. Accept constructive criticism. Maintain patient confidentiality. * Basic blueprint reading required. Individual must be able to work independently with minimal supervision to complete assigned projects on time, per schedule. Control tool inventory through monthly maintenance and auditing. Maintain a good working knowledge of all tools and equipment. * Observe all sanitation and safety regulations as outlined in hospital policy or as good judgment dictates. Report to Director all unsafe or unusual acts or conditions observed within the hospital or support facilities. * Perform a wide variety of both rough and finished work, new construction and remodeling, in a safe manner. Maintain a current valid PA vehicle operator's license. Frequently review departmental policies and procedures and maintain a working knowledge of same. * As directed by the Lead, estimate materials on specific projects and compile total project costs. Assist the Lead in directing trade workers and subcontractors. * Render services or perform work in accordance with specified Departmental productivity standards. Comply with the Department's current dress code policy. * Attend all mandatory in-service programs, including monthly departmental meetings. Attend optional in-service and continuing education programs on a voluntary basis. Demonstrate dependability through good attendance and punctuality. * Respond quickly and effectively to meet customer's needs. Is willing to make extra efforts to meet customers with courtesy, respect and concern. Recognizes fellow employees as internal customers. Qualifications: * 3-5 years of prior institutional/healthcare related construction experience preferred. * Basic knowledge of general construction required. * Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. * Ability to read blueprint and construction drawings preferred. * May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored.
