To learn more about the benefits of working at UCSF, including total compensation, please visit: ***************************************************************************** Required Qualifications * Graduation from college with Bachelor of Science in a major in an appropriate scientific field, and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position * Successful completion of Clinical Laboratory Scientist/ Medical Laboratory Scientist training, including a supervised 1-year of clinical internship, from an accredited program * Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health * Technical knowledge in biology, mathematics, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, immunology, molecular biology, virology, and skills in other clinical laboratory areas acquired through the CLS/MLS program * Considerable knowledge in Core Laboratory instrumentation (Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis) * Proficiency with using Microsoft Word and Excel * Possess computer skills adequate to perform the position responsibilities * Experience in multi-tasking and prompt adjustments to changing work volumes * Able to work independently, under pressure; recognize and resolve problems while maintaining a high level of organization * Possess excellent skills in interpersonal communication and customer service * Able to critically analyze information relevant to the responsibilities of the position and effectively communicate findings both verbally and in written reports * Able to understand and write technical procedures * Excellent work ethics Preferred Qualifications * Two years of current clinical laboratory experience with a focus on the Core laboratory departments (Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis) * Experience with high volume analyzers * Effective verbal and written communication skills relative to clinical results

Under the direction of the Quality Assurance (QA) Manager, the employee performs technical laboratory aspects of Point of Care Testing and activities to support the laboratory and hospital Quality Management policies. This position performs Point of Care Testing procedures, computer functions, quality control, preventative maintenance, and regulatory compliance. This position performs all duties in a manner that denotes the team concept and reflects the UCSF Code of Conduct and ZSFG mission, vision, and values. Performs validation studies by running precision, linearity, and comparison testing for instruments. Performs data entry and statistical analysis of the results. Assists Quality Assurance Manager and Laboratory Director in ensuring regulatory compliance standards for waived and non-waived testing are met throughout the institution. Oversees maintenance of permissions and users for the non-conforming event tracking, the hazardous waste, chemical inventory, temperature monitoring, document control, and staff competency systems. Assists Quality Assurance Manager and Laboratory Director with risk assessments, event tracking and stratification, quality plans and assessments, corrective actions, process improvements, and ongoing monitoring. Assists with review of proficiency testing records, assignments, evaluation, and investigation tracking. Acts as a subject matter expert or Advanced Reporting User, provides guidance to all laboratory sections on EPIC reports and dashboards. Acts as a subject matter expert in laboratory licensing, supporting the campus clinics in maintaining licensure. Maintains expertise and provides technical consultation for assigned methods. Maintains a working knowledge and proficiency of all non-waived POCT instruments to perform troubleshooting and apply critical thinking to assist when needed. Assists with reagent and/or control lot conversions and validations from the waived team, as applicable. Prepares monthly quality reports for assigned methods for the Quality Assurance Manager and the Laboratory Director. Working knowledge of the POCT middleware and Laboratory Information System to assist with transmission errors, troubleshooting, specimen issues, and pending log activities. Develops collaborative and interactive working relationships with laboratory staff, nursing staff, medical staff, vendors, and product manufacturing companies to assist with laboratory initiatives. Assists in training and ongoing educational in-services for physicians, nursing staff, respiratory service staff, and new employees. The CLS must undergo regular competency test to check his/her ability to perform highly complexed testing and must continue to pass these competencies in order to maintain his/her ability to perform patient testing. What It Takes to be Successful Required Qualifications: Knowledge necessary to obtain Clinical Laboratory Scientist license in the state of California and current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license.
