Job Summary
The Church Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of all areas within the church to ensure a welcoming and hygienic environment for daily worship and church events. The role involves routine cleaning tasks, restocking supplies, and occasional room setups as directed by the Facilities Director. The custodian will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of church activities by ensuring a clean and well-maintained space for all who enter.
Job Responsibilities
Clean and sanitize restrooms, including restocking supplies as needed (toilet paper, soap, paper towels).
Mop, sweep, and maintain all floors throughout the church, including entryways and hallways.
Clean and polish windows, window sills, and other glass surfaces to maintain a bright and clean appearance.
Drain, clean, and sanitize the Baptismal Font to ensure it is ready for use.
Maintain a routine cleaning schedule to ensure all interior spaces are consistently clean and welcoming.
Set up rooms for church services, events, and meetings as requested by the Facilities Director.
Ensure trash is emptied and disposed of properly throughout the building.
Assist with seasonal or deep cleaning tasks as directed.
Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Facilities Director promptly.
Follow all safety and cleaning protocols to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
Job Requirements
Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
Ability to work independently and follow cleaning schedules.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
Ability to lift and carry cleaning equipment or supplies as necessary.
Strong communication skills and ability to work well with the Facilities Director and other staff members.
Ability to maintain a respectful and positive attitude in a religious and community-oriented environment.

DEFINITION
The Head Custodian oversees and supervises the day-to-day custodial responsibilities to ensure a safe and clean environment in support of the district's mission to ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from the Custodial Supervisor. May occasionally receive supervision from the Custodial Assistant Director, Principal, and Assistant Principal. Follow daily tasks and areas to be cleaned via outline from the Custodial Supervisor and Custodial Assistant Director. Provides direction to Building Custodians as related to daily tasks, special events and school functions.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Daily minimum duties include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition according to district standards and CDC guidelines, including:
Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and refinishing floors;
Cleaning, dusting, and polishing furniture;
Washing windows and walls;
Cleaning restrooms;
Disposing of rubbish;
Cleaning and disinfecting water fountains;
Deodorizing restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets and maintain fixtures and replenish supplies in restrooms; and
Ensuring all school exterior entrances and vestibules are free of debris and leaves, including removing rocks and exterior door props.
Cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting the cafeteria or other common areas where students eat meals following meal times.
Emptying and cleaning waste receptacles inside and outside the facility and any sporting complexes. Assisting with cardboard recycling and assuring large outdoor rubbish containers are locked and secure when not in use. Cleaning and sweeping the area around large rubbish containers.
Maintaining all the custodial closets and supply areas and using the current supply ordering process to order and maintain proper par levels.
Assisting in unclogging sinks, toilets and urinals by plunging.
Identifying and correcting or fixing any building safety hazards. Creating work orders as needed using the work order system.
Assessing all sidewalks and walkways to ensure they are free of snow and ice during the winter months. Applying ice melt as needed and reporting significant snow and ice build up to the Custodial Supervisor.
Assuring all chemical bottles are labeled properly. Assuring only approved chemicals are used in the school.
Ensuring the facility's doors are secure during working hours and locked after working hours.
Assisting in ensuring the Colorado State flag status is followed on all flag poles. Ensures flags are in good order and orders replacement flags as needed and follows the guidelines on proper flag disposal process.
Monthly minimum duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintaining all battery operated floor equipment and charging stations, including:
Inspecting and running all equipment monthly using the current equipment inspection protocol.
Ensuring equipment assigned to Head Custodian is wiped down and sanitized daily.
Ensuring that all vacuums are HEPA filtered and vacuum bags are replaced and HEPA filter is clean daily.
Assuring all power cords are free of electrical hazard from frayed and or cut cords and the plugs are safe and have a 3-prong ground pin.
Using equipment asset systems.
Using the work order system for monthly checks of exit lights, emergency lights, fire extinguishers, and eye wash stations.
Occasional or emergency duties include, but are not limited to:
Moving and arranging furniture and equipment and setting up rooms for meetings and special functions, as requested.
Planning holiday and summer cleaning projects and schedules with the Custodial Supervisor.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES
Experience: No prior experience required. Three years of increasingly responsible custodial experience recommended.
Training / Education: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
License or Certificate: The possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid drivers license.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions: Flexible work schedule to facilitate training for both day and night shifts. Travel from site to site. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gasses, inclement weather conditions. Work at heights on scaffolding and ladders, and around construction equipment.
Physical Conditions: Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate and light lifting (up to 50 lbs); bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles. Operate backpack vacuum for extended periods of time. Operate carpet extractor, floor scrubber/burnishing equipment for extended periods of time.
SALARY RANGE AND DAYS WORKED
Hourly range: $23.04/hour to $28.54/hour, depending on qualified experience.
Days worked: 260 days/year (with paid personal time, paid vacation days, and paid time off for holidays and district non-work days such as during winter break and spring breaks)

Nature of Work:
This position consists of routine work to maintain the cleanliness of the facility and grounds. An employee in this class, under supervision, received general direction and leadership from the Facilities Manager. Compensation:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Report to the Facility Manager, who is responsible for the direction of cleaning/maintenance for the facilities.
Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures.
Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill dispensers.
Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, events, and vacuum carpets.

SUMMARY:
Responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, security, and basic maintenance of the assigned school building, grounds, and equipment. Ensure a safe and pleasant learning environment for students, staff, and the public. Promote safety, health, and comfort of students and staff in District facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clean buildings include classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms, offices, and hallways by removing trash, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, buffing, cleaning carpets, washing windows, and scrubbing floors. Complete minor maintenance work.
Assist staff, public, students, teachers, and community groups using the building during the assigned shift. Answer questions; respond to requests, and/or direct individuals to appropriate people or building areas.
Change light bulbs and filters; clean heating/cooling vents; inspect and adjust boilers for proper pressure settings; routinely examine water/air pipes and facility roof and structure for damage and leaks; and perform minor repairs to building, furniture, equipment, including changing ceiling tiles. Report on building maintenance repairs for the immediate supervisor and/or appropriate maintenance department.
Assure building security by locking/unlocking doors at appropriate times, recognizing and correcting unsafe security conditions, or reporting conditions to appropriate personnel or authorities.
Set-up for school programs, meetings, assemblies, special events, and after-hours functions as requested. Move and set-up computers, public address system, audio-visual equipment, furniture, and lighting as needed.
Assist with routine ground duties including picking up trash; removing snow, ice, and gravel; and cleaning outside windows, doors, and lighting.
Respond to emergencies such as fire alarms, broken pipes, electrical shorts, and fires. Assist building staff as needed during emergencies to assure students and staff safety.
Perform seasonal, summer, and project cleaning as planned and assigned by supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High School Diploma or equivalent
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Basic oral and written communication skills.
English language skills.
Basic problem-solving skills.
Operating knowledge of basic custodial equipment preferred at hire, required within 3 months of entering the position.
Ability to acquire skills necessary to operate various types of cleaning equipment.
Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes without notice.
Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.

Nature of Work:
This position consists of routine work to maintain the cleanliness of the facility and grounds. An employee in this class, under supervision, received general direction and leadership from the Facilities Manager. The employee performs cleaning and maintenance functions on the evening shift (3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. OR 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.). Compensation:
$18.27/hr (no experience) to $23.72 (11 years of relevant experience)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Report to the Facility Manager, who is responsible for the direction of cleaning/maintenance for the facilities.
Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures.
Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill dispensers.
Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, events, and vacuum carpets.
Use and maintain vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
Lock and unlock assigned doors: secure the building when facilities are not in use, check for unlocked or propped doors, report any unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
Wash accessible interior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
Attend to emergencies when necessary.
Support and enforce all policies and OSHA rules.
Perform other related duties as required.
Technical Skills:
Assigned areas of the school and must complete assigned tasks while working alone.
Responsible for reporting on a timely basis any problem of a maintenance or safety nature.
Physical Qualifications:
Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.
Must have the physical capabilities to perform these functions over a sustained period of time: walking, twisting, turning, climbing, stooping, bending, lifting, sweeping, and standing.
Normal tolerance of and not being allergic to common cleaning chemicals.

In the area of floor-care, duties include sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming and spot cleaning carpet, auto scrubbing, spray buffing, burnishing, refinishing wood, concrete, and vinyl composite floors (removing floor finish by sanding or stripping, then applying seal and wax) and carpet extraction. Cleaning duties include cleaning and re-lamping lighting fixtures, cleaning water fountains, emptying and cleaning waste containers, cleaning walls, doors, and windows, dusting flat surfaces and vents, cleaning and sanitizing all restroom fixtures, urinals and toilet bowls, cleaning toilet partitions and doors, sinks, and mirrors, restocking soap and paper products, straightening and moving furniture, shampooing upholstered furniture, setting up tables, chairs and media equipment for meetings, cleaning dry erase boards, securing areas as required (locking and unlocking rooms and buildings), inputting work requests and filling out time log in maintenance management system ("Schooldude"), cleaning and maintaining equipment, turning lights on and off, using proper personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, grippers, aprons, safety shoes), and attending training meetings on safety, cleaning procedures, and equipment and product use.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE FOR RIGHT FIT
Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must have six months of custodial experience, which must have been performed within a business/corporation type setting or similar. Part-time work will be prorated. You must include names and phone numbers of three professional references.
Preferred Qualifications: Excellent customer service and time-management skills, and the ability to follow directions.
