Job Description
Overview
Under general supervision, performs routine and specialized CT imaging procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibility 1: Executes basic clinical competence in CT, in all locations, across all patient types. Selects accurate technical factors on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patient. Observes concepts of Image Wisely/Image Gently for dose reduction. Administers contrast according to facility policy.
Actively participates in the Clinical Ladder Program, if implemented, at the individual System hospital/location, meeting and maintaining all Program standards and requirements.
Key Responsibility 2: Applies knowledge of CT principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation safety and physics, patient positioning and patient care skills. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal, organizational and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
Key Responsibility 3: Documents accurate patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.
Key Responsibility 4: Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment. Maintains supplies and inventory in area. Informs appropriate colleague when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors. Documents and reports related equipment/environmental problems in accordance with policy. Follows equipment quality control procedures with appropriate documentation.
Key Responsibility 5: Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience and quality. Actively participates in student and employee training and education activities.

Education
Associate degree, or Certificate, in radiologic technology from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Appropriately performs high level disinfecting procedures to meet organizational infection prevention standards. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal and departmental regulatory compliance standards.

Primary Duties:
Archives raw data to obtain the best possible image. Develops films in automatic processor and ensures films are of acceptable diagnostic quality and completeness. Transfers images from disc or magnetic media to produce transparency.
Ensures patients are free of objects that may interfere with the procedure. Transfers, positions, and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain and effect the desired radiographic diagnostic results as specified by the physician.
Instructs and demonstrates MRI equipment operation, filming, and other technical aspects for professional staff and students. Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed. Schedules MRI examinations when needed to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment.
Operates control console for each patient's scan, including selection of proper imaging techniques; operates various peripheral hardware. Enters patient data at start of examination and monitors data acquisition during procedure.
Qualifications:

Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Conducts a variety of radiographic examinations for use by a physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions. Obtains patient history, explains procedures, and addresses patient concerns. Requires ARRT Radiography registration and Maryland State License as a Radiologic Technologist.
Principal Duties:
Explains process to patient and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination. Responds to patient's concerns and questions.
Demonstrates appropriate assessment skills prior to performing the Radiographic procedure and notifies the Physician/Radiologist, when appropriate:
Patient identification
Clinical condition (i.e., pregnant, isolation, risk to fall, etc.)

Obtains informed consent, when appropriate
Completes worksheet appropriately for all exams.

Links and associates studies per the departmental policy and procedure.
Utilizes image scanner for prior studies and create CD's as needed for patients.
Uses correct identifiers for patient studies and matches images to patient demographics
Performs appropriate patient tracking in radiology and hospital information system as well as chart entries when required
Follows patient and employee radiation safety procedures, including:
Understands and complies with state regulations for radiation safety, handling, and disposal

Appropriate use and storage of lead equipment
Wears radiation badge
Safely transports patients to and from Imaging Services.
Documents performance of radiographic procedures in accordance with department policies
Repeat rate for x-ray exams is within department standards. No more than 10% retakes allowed.

Follows procedures to label and store images and film

Located in Baltimore's cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 180-bed, community teaching hospital with a focus on helping people manage chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.
Job Description
Under indirect supervision, the Radiographer performs quality diagnostic radiographic, interventional radiology and cardiac catheter procedures utilizing the concepts and principles of radiation protection/safety. Coordinates daily work schedule and activities of the lab according to department need. Operates sophisticated Radiographic, Fluoroscopic, portable and Interventional imaging equipment according to protocol and procedure. Prepares and administers oral and IV contrast media according to protocol.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care. Ensures completion of all work assignments prior to end of shift to assist with reduced length of stay initiatives.
Verifies patient identity and reviews each patient's requisition for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information. Records pertinent data on requisition at all times.
Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper radiation safety practices and proper positioning devices. Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician's orders.
Inserts, maintains, and discontinues Heparin lock or IV access devices as required by patient condition. Administers IV contrast media through said devices. Monitors patient vital signs and recognizes contraindications.
Selects sets up, and maintains sterile tray and accessories according to scheduled procedure.
Processes all patients through the Meditech system before end of shift to ensure proper documentation and billing information. Identifies and inputs all appropriate charges for procedures and supplies.
Recommends, participates, and assists in the implementation of expense control initiatives.
Prepares patient for sterile procedure according to department and hospital protocol.
Properly marks and identifies all radiographs and digital images.
Reports all safety hazards and/or radiographic or Interventional equipment malfunctions that could harm patients, visitors or other hospital employees to appropriate supervisor immediately.
Works in conjunction with IR nurses and physicians to monitor patient condition throughout procedures. Is able to recognize basic cardiac rhythms and use the Mac Lab when necessary.
Maintains proper stocking and cleanliness of Interventional rooms.
Establishes and maintains a good rapport and working relationship with departmental staff, hospital staff, patients, families, physicians, and hospital visitors.
As identified in the department/unit specific competency plan, demonstrates:
The technical competence necessary to provide quality care to age specific population.
The ability to assess the developmental needs of age specific population.
The ability to use equipment in a safe and proper manner.
Other duties as assigned by appropriate supervisor/manager.
Demonstrates support and compliance with the UMMC Midtown Campus' mission, vision, values, philosophy, goals, objectives and policies.
Qualifications
Required graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology School. Required registered by the
ARRT and licensed by the state of Maryland. Required successful completion of basic cardiac rhythm recognition course.
Minimum one (I) year radiology, and six (6) months Interventional experience (willing to train the right individual) following graduation from an approved school.
