    The University of Virginia's Health System Physical Plant has an opportunity for a Senior Plumber in our Health System Physical Plant. Senior Plumbers are responsible for similar duties as Plumbers, however, they operate with advanced skill and independence. Senior Plumbers direct, lead, and perform a wide variety of advanced repair, installation, and maintenance tasks to plumbing fixtures and related equipment. They are responsible for independently installing, repairing, and replacing complex plumbing equipment, while providing technical guidance to lower-level plumbers. The schedule for this position will be Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. Responsibilities: * Diagnose plumbing problems and perform repairs as required. Perform preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and update or repair the systems as necessary. * Lay out piping systems; install proper hangers and support systems. Install pipefitting in compliance with applicable codes and construction documents. * Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable building codes. * Respond to requests from the University community and address plumbing problems. * Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate. * Ensure that all safety equipment and personal protective equipment are used. * Assist supervisor coordinating daily assignments. * In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Required Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: Seven years of experience. Experience working in a hospital or clinical environment, and Medical Gas experience preferred. Licensure: Journeyman or Master level plumbing license required. Valid Driver's License. Compensation: The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $29 - $34 per hour ($60,320 - $70,720 Annually). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. (May not include all duties performed; not all incumbents perform all essential functions delineated) Confers with Supervisor to learn nature of work assignments, and advise or consult on individual/crew assignments, work-orders, equipment to be used, and materials to be obtained or purchased; May be authorized to order or purchase materials; Studies building plans and work instructions to determine tools, equipment and materials needed, and to ensure holes cut will not affect structural integrity; Confers with building administrator and/or Supervisor to determine whether part or all building must be closed down during work; Measures and cuts holes in floors and walls to fit pipes, using hand, power, and measuring tools; Cuts and threads metal, plastic or ceramic pipes, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and threading machines; bends pipes to required angle using pipe bending machine and/or hand tools; Assembles and installs, interior and exterior (below-ground) pipes, pipe fittings and valves, caulks pipes, and tests for leakages. May dig trenches to remove, repair, or replace pipes; Repairs and or replaces plumbing and heating fixtures such as faucets, sinks, commodes, water heaters, and kitchen fixtures such as sinks, and dishwashers; Replaces cooling and dual temperature pumps; repairs and replaces fan coils, radiators and hot water heaters); repairs swimming pool and irrigation piping systems; installs, tests and repairs cross-connection and back-flow control devices; Clears clogged drains or commodes using hand and power tools and chemicals; Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and repairs of all assigned systems; Loads and unloads supplies and equipment into a county automotive vehicle, drives to and from work sites; Measures all safety precautions, regulations and equipment are used appropriately, and that work complies with national, state, and local building codes; Participates in work-site set-up and clean up to ensure safe environment; Performs routine maintenance and repair on tools, equipment and vehicles; Maintains work records and prepares reports on problem or emergency situations; At II level, leads and inspects work performed by crew, summer student and/or community service workers. To work under direct supervision of the Supervisor and Plumbing technicians and assist in all aspects of the plumbing trade. To perform all work in a professional, conscientious and safe manner. This position performs other duties as assigned. This position has the ability to be converted to a Plumber Steamfitter position upon the attainment of a Plumbing Journeyman's License.
