A child life specialist supports the social, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families throughout their healthcare experience. Child life specialists help children and adolescents understand and cope with medical procedures, hospitalization, and illness by providing therapeutic play, age-appropriate education, and emotional support. This role fosters resilience, reduces anxiety, and promotes positive coping for pediatric patients and their families.
The Child Life Specialist is responsible for assessing, educating, preparing and supporting pediatric patients and families during their healthcare experience.

- Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
+ Assess the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and families.
+ Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advocate for the social, emotional and developmental needs of pediatric patients.
+ Establish supportive relationships with pediatric patients and their families during hospital stays that promote positive coping, normalize the healthcare environment and embody the principals of patient-and family- centered care.
+ Develop and implement individualized care plans and interventions using play, education, preparation, and support.
+ Provide support to children with chronic illnesses and their families by providing developmentally appropriate education, promoting coping strategies, and fostering resilience throughout the course of diagnosis, treatment, hospitalization, and loss.
+ Facilitate medical play for patients and their siblings.
+ Support families during critical incidents, trauma, or end-of-life.
+ Maintain accurate documentation and participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
+ Meets training requirements on an annual basis.
+ In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
+ Education: Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field
+ Completion of a minimum of 600-hour clinical internship under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist
+ Licensure: Child Life Professional Certification within one year of hire required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Reporting to the Manager of Program Operations for HR/Payroll, the Shared Service Specialist's job duties include:
+ Provide guidance to unit administrators related to hiring and payroll policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with UW, State, and Federal best practices.
+ Submit and track to completion Workday transactions as requested by member units.
+ Submit request for job posting in Workday. Contact department administrator and Human Resources (HR) for assistance, as needed.
+ Enter new employee information and/or employee data changes in Workday.
+ Run and interpret Workday reports to track progress of transactions.
+ Communicate progress and roadblocks of transactions to administrators.
+ Contact Employee Workday Help (EWH) for relevant questions and assistance, as necessary.
+ Maintain high compliance standards while also meeting turn-around goals.
+ Actively participate in all appropriate policy, business process, and customer service training, including Workday training sessions, in order to maintain and expand current expertise and to build expertise in new systems.
+ Actively participate in daily staff huddles, weekly and monthly workshops, and outreach meetings (as requested).
+ Collaborate with fellow team members to evaluate current AST processes and policies, develop ideas for updates and improvements, and institute changes that continually reinforce our mission and values.
+ Maintain positive and productive working relationships with unit administrative staff.
+ Communicate clearly and collegially with all AST constituents, including customers, central offices, vendors, and colleagues.

General Information:
The Dean of Students Case Manager is primarily responsible to support the students who are referred to Madison Cares and are at a low level of concern (students do not appear to pose threat of harm to self/others, nor significant disruption, but may need resources). The Case Manager will also provide significant support to students who have withdrawn from JMU by partnering with the Office of the Registrar to send emails and call students who have questions regarding the withdrawal process and may need support regarding re-entry.

Responsible for helping with case management for the university's care referral program, Madison Cares.
Supports the review of care referrals submitted to Madison Cares, assesses the level of risk, and determines/assigns the appropriate intervention.

Remain up to date on campus and community resources as it relates to student success.
Dean of Students Functions:

The Mental Health Intake Clinician coordinates internal/external admissions and referrals and makes program admission decisions utilizing established clinical criteria. * Coordinate the Piedmont Scholars Program, supporting Piedmont Virginia Community College students pursuing transfer.
* As part of the broader UVA Enrollment transfer team, interact with prospective students across the VCCS system and provide information and guidance.
2. Transfer Virginia Portal Management
* Serve as UVA's primary point of contact for the Transfer Virginia Portal.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with UVA colleagues and VCCS colleagues that strengthen UVA's partnership with VCCS institutions.
* Maintain and update portal content to meet the needs of prospective transfer students.
* Review portal information on a regular basis to ensure accurate and transparent information is available through the portal.
3. Transfer Transition & Success
* Serve as a central resource for newly admitted transfer students as they acclimate to UVA.
* Partner with Orientation and Transition Programs (OTP), supporting initiatives and programs such as: Transfer Transition Coaches, New Student Orientation, Wahoo Welcome, and National Transfer Student Week
* Plan and execute transfer achievement celebrations to honor students' transitions and milestones.

Outreach Responsibilities

Serve on student panels throughout the academic year

Terms of Employment
Hours: Shifts are scheduled between 9:00AM-5PM. After hours shifts may occur as early as 7AM or as late as 9PM during special event days and when traveling.

Hours will differ based on AVA needs and FWS availability.
